Good video but not sure Hiroshima as a day trip is viable. Shinkansen will take 4+ hrs but not on a JR Pass so over 5 hours each way unless you fly of course. I've done Hiroshima as a day trip from Kyoto and back at the hotel after midnight.

Thanks for the kind words. You're absolutely right, doing Hiroshima as a day trip from Tokyo would be pretty difficult because of the distance, although not impossible. I just think it's such a fascinating place, I really felt compelled to squeeze it onto this list 😁.

Hiroshima is a bit far for a day trip, maybe a two or three days visit !? 😳

I would not recommend Shirakawa-go as a day trip from Tokyo as it is extremely remote. Do it only if you want to spend 9 hours travelling to and from Tokyo and are satisfied with an hour and a bit there.
Better to do this as a day trip from Nagoya or Takayama, or even spend a night in one of the heritage houses.
I would also recommend Mount Takao and Karuizawa.

I completely agree. I would recommend staying a few days in Takayama and from there make a day trip to Shirakawa-go. Even from Takayama, it took us about 2 hours to get there by bus, so about 4 hours roundtrip. Definitely not a day trip from Tokyo.
