You know, we would love to see you digging into some popular hardware. My current obsession is with small, cost-effective (but powerful) groove boxes, of our current era. Starting at the end of my list of rig pieces, which goes back 35 or so years, I just got the Roland AIRA S-1. I have had two friends over the years with SH-101's in their studios, and I have owned several old Roland analog synths, beside it. I gotta say, you could show folks how to make some great techno with just these tiny AIRA's, and a couple other reasonably priced bits of kit. It's pretty impressive, for $200USD, this one.
great video :) really easy to understand and implement in the production. for the demos...how long should they be and what format (e.g. link, .wav, .mp3, etc.)?
Thank you for this. So many techno tutorials are just sharing recipes. This one is different. It's more fundamental. It helps develop a deeper UNDERSTANDING, which is much more helpful in the long term than yet another recipe.
You gave so many interesting advices in such a short time that I had to pause the video every 10 seconds or so to keep up writting down my notes! Awsome tips as always!
Make a folder on you tube of all favourite ideas. I have one for drums, bass, melodies, mixing and miscellaneous. When I am struggling with writing block all it takes is watching one of the uploads I have saved to spark an Idea. The only reason I am saying this is because I had pages of notes with no organisation and found it hard to come back to that juicy stuff.
Really cool how you put together a few concepts that are always there in the back of your mind but conjuring them ad then taking them apart is just another level
I love how succinct your videos are, helps a lot to validate some techniques one has figured out themselves but can't really pinpoint to why/how it works :) the short length also help a lot to catch up. Thanks a lot for them :D
Wow I had no idea I was making this mistake; Trying to hear chord progressions when in fact it was hypnotic techno which is something completely different from peak time / melodic
Hi bro, I follow your channel, mostly of time I am quite and silenced but I really like the way you share your views. I'am an Afro house producer currently I am at Top20 producers of this genre on the beatstats in the last 12 months. I like when you says the maths involved on the track and yesterday I saw an interview with the producer from ACDC rock n roll band and that guy says the same thing you said here at once. The maths, he was explaining why the drum and bass from this band is so straight enough to make the guitar plays off beat and creates the ACDC math work perfectly. In my case is hard as I need to explore the percussion ( congas, djembe, etc ) world. Sometimes those percussions are hard to find the maths , so many information inveolded, sometimes they are also a difficult to adjust the sound, as they are too raw.
Thanks a lot fo this video! I struggle a little with techno, because I’m too used to melodical songwriting, and techno is not about that :) this video is suuuper useful
Awesome video! This got me thinking about one of my dusty old wip's that has some samples from Half-Life. Could you do a video on sample clearing and copyright? I know it's not the most exciting topic, but I think a lot of beginner producers have to know what it means and how to do it
Uuuh, what sound quality! It made me feel tingles in my brain, haha, excellent! You should make sound for movies or for some museum exhibit because it's a universe of sensations with at least some good headphones.
Oscar a great video as always!! i 've been truly inspired by your videos and you ve help me develop my skills as a producer so thanks a lot! i hve been using your rumble generator since the release and i ve made some adjustments to add some more control over the rumble sound. would you like me to send you the patch so you can share it with the rest of the community?
In techno music, the focus is on rhythmic and percussive elements, not melody. However, instrument effects like delay, reverb, distortion, and filtering can still convey emotion. Techniques like "build-ups" gradually increase tension, while "drops" create sudden changes in rhythm and texture. Creative use of effects creates a sense of tension, release, and emotional impact, making techno tracks dynamic and expressive.

The best techno is much more "moving sound sculpture" than it is, the practice of traditional melodical musical theories.
Ones that when you finally grow accustomed to a pattern, it starts to change into something else together.

I’ve known this subconsciously, the best videos confirm what you already think! Thank you under dog! 🙏🏽✊🏽🇬🇧

This is sooooo validating, My brain thinks primarily in these kind of phrases, and I struggle with melodies.
its because you aint learning music theory

You put the right words on concepts that I was only touching the surface. One more time, this is truly useful. Thank you Oscar
Thanks a lot fo this video!

Endless nuggets of wisdom
I’m a loyal Patreon follower of Oscar and as always his content is very relatable. Great explanation to a non melodic techno phrase
This content is absolute GOLD ❤
There is a really good free upwards/downwards compressor called OTT. Its a fantastic little unit.

With your video FX supporting the delay and your story I just thought I have hallucinogen persisting perception disorder 😂
Thank you for your ideas

I love your work! What microphone do you use to record these video?
I'm mostly using a sennheiser 416 these days! I quite like it :)
@@OscarUnderdog thanks for getting back to me :)
very good video thank you
2:50 formant filter. If you are trying to figure out what was said.
2:37 - sampling that immediately
The voice is an amazing instrument..... Get a mic, go crazy and sample yourself... :)
Great videos I learn allot from your walkthrough 👌🏼
Oscar a great video as always!! i 've been truly inspired by your videos and you ve help me develop my skills as a producer so thanks a lot!

Do! You can email it :)
Always such useful content and great delivery ~*~
Hola Oscar, could you make a video of sampling old school? please
Really logical stuff . Thank you.
Yo, what's under, dawg?
are we lw iq aspiring rappers today?
Legend! Thanks
I would like to see you show some practical tips in Ableton again. Your last episodes were very theoretical. Thanks.
Starting to make sense
Here is my portion of '' some love'' for you😂🎉 great video 😎🤙
Oscar ftw!
Would that multiband effect also be achieved using a normal compressor set to expand, or is there something specific in the multiband needed?
Expand is the opposite of what we want to achieve :) remember we are trying to compress the dynamic range, but in an upward motion :)
@@OscarUnderdog ah gotcha. Thanks for clarifying
Nice intro dude.
This is a good way to think about it
You opened a Pandora's box that now I can't close. Not that I want to. :D
Hey, would you recommend the Foundations of Electronic Music course to someone interested in producing techno music?
This video has good material for some techno track "Oscars formants"😁
You should make hypnotic techno from scratch video
I do one on my courses website! Or also check out my SNTS videos!
I love the new track
This one was really inspiring. Thx.
"What is *Upward* compression?"
[Watches him adjust one aspect on multiband I've never touched before]
Me:🤯
2:47 🥺 chonky arms
Foundations 2 Hype 😂
Thanks for the food 🙏🏾
When I click on courses I get “Forbidden”. I’ve used different browsers and VPN’s and still can’t access it. Anybody else having trouble?
I’m seeing trails …. 😅❤
nice
Techno being rhythmic based, I would say your musical phrase would be rhythmic.
In techno music, the focus is on rhythmic and percussive elements, not melody. However, instrument effects like delay, reverb, distortion, and filtering can still convey emotion. :)
To me, a techno phrase is 8 bars
Beware making rules for yourself..... Go with with feels right and then once you get into a comfortable routine; challenge it. 👍
comment for algo, thank you for everything Oscar!
