This is not the best way, the way you did that makes it very easy to cut into the interposer and permanently damage the cell, you need to have a sharp side to cut the glue and the side that is on the interposer needs to be dull, that way no damage can be done

Razor blade is the best way to brick your console.. one wrong turn, one little scratch on cpu's circuit board and it's gone. If the blade cuts off any of traces on cell, then your ps3 is busted.

this is the method I use, however I scratched 2 cpus so far, all work luckily, but I always break the blade to a smaller piece, and very carefully manover it with a plyer. I don't drag it to cut, but simply push it flat, and just cut the silicone off.

    • @adam699

Worked perfectly. You can feel the razor blade slide in through the adhesive. Using your fingers allows you to really feel the feedback real good so you will pick up changes in resistance. It also helps to imagine the location of the chip and observe there the razor edge is in relation to it. The RSX is trickier with the memory chips, but just make sure the razor-blade is as close to the lid as possible.

Glad you didn't heat up the Cell, the videos of people blasting heat on the Cell (not RSX) annoy me because I honestly think it doesn't help. The razor seems great, nicely done. Got my hands on a CECHC04 recently and I do want to delid it, I have two 20xx slims that I will test on first (as I believe their Cell and RSX are similar enough to Fats)

Sometimes the thermal past under the chips do not work anymore so even if you repaste without delid you wil stil have overheating and shutdown problems had few consoles with that problem for them its the only way for them to work.

@@SoMiSongbird I mean there is no “being very careful” with this procedure, the way he did it is still extremely dangerous for both you and the PS3, this method shouldn’t even be considered, and it’s not even the quickest, as someone who has delidded Cells before, I was able to do it with a modified painters knife in less than a minute, the issue with his tool is it is too sharp, very easy to cut up traces which it seems many people in the comments unfortunately already have killed their consoles due to this poor method
