They're good but not that great in making powerful engines. Production V8 engines made by Japanese can only make power up to around 400 hp, with no air compressor. European and US V8 engines can make power up to around 600 hp. There are a lot of lessons Japanese car manufactures need to learn to beat the European an US. 👌

In my opinion the the entire UZ family deserves to be in S tier. The 1uz was certified for aircraft use, aircrafts can only use the most reliable and over engineered engines as you don’t want engine failure while in the sky lol 😅. You forgot to mention that the 2uz came with a full iron block and is known to be one of the most bullet proof engines ever created! With high mileage examples still selling over 15-30 grand in land cruisers and lx470’s. The final UZ engine, the 3uz is known to be a masterpiece of a luxury v8 or any v8 in that matter. Also do your research on the 3uz it is probably the best v8 ever created in a practicality sense.
Most of the aircraft certification thing just means someone went through the bureaucracy to get it certified. It costs millions, and since the GA engine swap market is miniscule, it's a guaranteed way to lose money. Most certified airplane engines are ANCIENT, and they're certified because the process was a lot easier in 1948. Porsche got a turbo engine certified and was installed OE in some Mooney airplanes. They were extremely unreliable, despite the certification. The Toyota V8 also doesn't make for a very good aero engine due to the physical size - it doesn't fit in the cowl of most airplanes, and making it fit would add a ton of drag. The most common car engines used in airplanes are very predictable. The GM LS is compact enough to fit in a Cessna 172 with minor modification. The Honda K-series is also used with a reduction gearbox. More common than everything else combined is the Subaru EJ, which fits neatly into any place a stock Lycoming or Continental boxer came out of.
1UZ for the win. You forgot to mention they’re FAA certified for use in airplanes. I bought 96 SC400 a few years ago with 225,000 miles. It ran like a top. A week into owning it I gave it a tune up. New plugs, wires, caps and rotors… the old plug wires were stamped 1996. They were the original plug wires. 🤯 After the tune up the car ran the same… which is fantastic. It still passes the champagne glass test. It’s at 228k now and the only repair I have planned is to replace the starter. I’ve added a HPS intake and it’s pure music from under the hood now. It’s impressive Lexus could make the 1UZ so quiet because it screams with the intake. Tunnels are a lot of fun.
I own both a 1999 Infiniti Q45 and a 2000 Lexus GS400, both cars have almost 700k miles between the two and are still very healthy and reliable. Cant go wrong with either a UZ or VH.
Toyota had a supercharger kit for the 2uz. Also, multiple 2uz and 1 1uz have made it to 1,000,000 miles with just normal maintenance. My uncles Lexus gx470 is over 500,000 miles with no major issues. 2ur valley plates leak. Otherwise no issues. 2uz and 3ur have air injection pump (emissions) issues which is able to be bypassed. I’ve seen and owned tons of 1uz, 2uz, and 3uz powered yotas and Lexus with 200,000-600,000 miles

The 1UZ is pretty small for a V8 and also happens to be one of the best here. On the Nissan side the VH41 and VH45 aren’t huge either. If you try to swap one, good luck with it, sounds like a neat idea!
Ive been thinking about japanese v8s to shove into my 280zx to make a japanese muscle car. I think 1uz would be best for its small size, light weight and smoothness. It will probably never happen, but we can dream.
If you're going to build a Nissan Muscle Car, keep it Nissan powered. As someone who loves V8s with the right number of cams, VK engines are going to be cheaper to build and would be much better in stock form. There is a lot ot nuance as to what makes a good 1UZ to build and the good ones are harder and harder to find.
From my understanding, the block, rods, and pistons on the 1UZ are a stronger and more robust assembly. I felt as if stronger internals was worth rewarding and a large part why the 1UZ is the most popular of the group. However, the 3UZ I had in A tier, but wouldn’t have an issue with it in S either. To be 100% honest I knew jdm v8s were under powered but I drive a 22 civic sport with 158 horses… I could beat one of these with the weight difference alone not even with upgrades
Im curious to know which ones are lightest and most compact. Im always looking for swap ideas. They all seem huge when compared to my experience with american v8s
The 1UZ is pretty small for a V8 and also happens to be one of the best here. On the Nissan side the VH41 and VH45 aren’t huge either. If you try to swap one, good luck with it, sounds like a neat idea!
Has anyone put a 2UR or 3UR in a 95-03 Tacoma? I’m curious because I’ve been interested in a swap of that nature
I have to do a Japanese V8 against the LS
Ive been thinking about japanese v8s to shove into my 280zx to make a japanese muscle car. I think 1uz would be best for its small size, light weight and smoothness. It will probably never happen, but we can dream.
Had a friend drop an LS3 into a 280zx and that thing ripped. If you get the chance a V8 in those cars is incredible, good luck!
Keep the 280zx Nissan powered. Plenty of affordable VK50/ 56's from local and online recyclers.
Do a VK45.
I so badly wanna swap a 1UZ into something. However... i do lack the money and skill to do it lmao
I’d love to see one in a GR86. Not sure it would fit but that would be wild!
Never knew that the toyota hilux had a V8 option :/
Most 200 series land cruiser i've seen are diesel v8's. That's europe and australia
How are you gonna put the 3UZ in a lower tier than the 1UZ … more power more torque…
Could’ve gotten that one wrong, but that was my reasoning. Thanks for watching!
I miss my 1uz 😢
German v8’s next???
Soon for sure, I have 5 cylinders coming next but German V8 will probably come after!
German V8 list next?
Probably doing 5 cylinders then German V8s. So pretty soon!
German Inline-4 please!!!
3UZ should've been S tier
Idea:
Australian v8s or i6s
I’ll look into that for sure thanks!
The diesel Toyota v8 is mainly used for mining applications or if you have money to waste
That’s really interesting, didn’t know the mining thing.
I had a vk45, blew it up on the highway
That’s a shame, hopefully you got to enjoy it while it lasted
Toyota 2UZ-FE with 211k miles for me looking to get at least another 200k out of it
That’s incredible, nobody does it like Toyota.
Yeah they really don’t, my 2UZ doesn’t use a drop of oil or anything. It’s not the most fuel efficient vehicle on the road but I’m never afraid to drive it anywhere bc of its reliability
Wonderful
2UR un red or white coupe lc500 with tan interior, dream :)
I like your taste! The infrared red is one of my favorite paint colors ever.
@@running2redline thank you for making this amazing videos :)
Where are jdm muscle cars? These engines make so much power!
I agree, luckily it seems Lexus is really getting into that game with cars like the RC350 and RCF. Some really nice cars imo with Toyota reliability
Didn't Yamaha make a V8 that was in some Volvos?
Yeah I missed that
Didn't Yamaha produce a V8 for Volvo?
Not sure, if so I missed that
