    Richard Dawkins believes sciences ability to admit ignorance is one of its greatest strengths. On the flip side, he proposes that faith remains arrogant and all too certain of its validity without any rational set of proofs.
    Richard Dawkins is a British ethologist, evolutionary biologist and popular science author. He was formerly Professor for Public Understanding of Science at Oxford University. He was voted Britain's leading public intellectual by readers of Prospect magazine and was named one of Time Magazine's "100 Most Influential People" for 2007.
    Dawkins came to prominence with his 1976 book "The Selfish Gene", which popularised the gene-centred view of evolution and introduced the term "meme". He is a prominent critic of creationism and intelligent design. In his 1986 book "The Blind Watchmaker", he argued against the watchmaker analogy, an argument for the existence of a supernatural creator based upon the complexity of living organisms. Instead, he described evolutionary processes as analogous to a blind watchmaker. He has since written several popular science books, and makes regular television and radio appearances, predominantly discussing these topics.
    Dawkins is an atheist, secular humanist, sceptic, scientific rationalist, and supporter of the Brights movement. In his 2006 book "The God Delusion", he contends that a supernatural creator almost certainly does not exist and that faith qualifies as a delusion − as a fixed false belief.

      @MarchAwc, I realize this is an old comment, but I had to respond.
      If you are teaching in the US or UK school system, your theory is limited to Western music with an occasional deviation into music from other parts of the world. That statement is based on my senior's AP music theory classwork. Indian music (where I come from) has an entirely different set of rules, most of which comes across as being weird to the average westerner, if not entirely alien. What I am trying to say is you are comparing apples and oranges. Music theory is not the on the same playing field as a scientific theory. There's nothing to prove or disprove in music.
      Music is by far the most subjective of art forms; what seems perfect to you, will be completely dissonant and jarring to another. And, both opinions are perfectly correct.

    I personally love the "Evolution is just a theory" line because it tells me that whoever is saying it probably never even took high school science and learned the difference between the layman definition of "theory" and the scientific definition.

      @genki sudo They don't consider scientism to be faith.
      Scientism includes (but is not limited to) *excessive deference to the unverifiable claims of scientists and the uncritical eagerness to accept anything described as scientific*
      A more straight forward way of saying that - scientism means blind faith in the current consensus of academia like a religious text.
      Dawkins is a Scientism Fundamentalist who not only blindly believes whatever his books with SCIENCE on the cover say, but he dogmatically defend those beliefs.
      And the funniest part is Dawkins (and other atheists) believe they have HIGHER scientific literacy for memorization and regurgitation in the claims of others. In reality, that's dogmatism... which is completely antithetical to science, so it tells you how low their scientific literacy *actually is*

    Oh. My.
    So, in my Islam textbook, there is an entire chapter dedicated to "debunking" atheism and one of this is "evolution is just a theory".
    The funniest part, it said micro-evolution is real, but macro-evolution isn't, that's only a theory.
    Well, if micro evolution happens, what kind of changes can occur over the course of billions of years? A lot of changes. Huge ones.
    "Believing in micro evolution but not macro evolution is believing in an inch, but not a foot."

    • @larsswig912
      @larsswig912 3 года назад +35

      Another hilarious part. We are being taught evolution as a scientific theory and explained it in detail, in my Biology class (International Edexcel Advanced level, a syllabus from the UK). Essentially, school tells me "evolution is real! Here is proof and explanation!" and "evolution is not real! God is!" in the same breath.
      I can imagine my classmates' cognitive dissonance already. Unlike me, they hadn't been wavered from faith by the fact that our Islam teacher defended Mohammed for having sex with a 9 year old girl. It's their own fault in this case. I won't tolerate anyone or anything that defends pedоphilia.

      @@labrat585 The question everybody should ask. Why would God choose an illiterate camel merchant who wasn't a great scholar, a king or even somebody known for his virtuous life to become his selected prophet? The Middle East was full of great scholars, mathematicians and astronomers at this time but God decided it was far better to make contact with a minor camel merchant who was far from a perfect human being.
      And let's for the sake of believing the fact God chose an illiterate person (plenty of those back then I imagine) simply because that somebody could have had plausible deniability because he simply recited what he had heard (God must also have made his mind have superhuman memory too) and therefore couldn't have invented them on his own, why not simply skip that entire part of reciting for somebody else to write it down and just create the Quran in its entirety in several large scrolls and tell Muhammad to tell people to read (those few who could) these "words directly from God" and "given by God in finished form" (much like the stone tablets God gave to Moses which were written and finished for him to show his people) and then everybody would instantly realize those were "God's scrolls".
      God:"I have some words to you Muhammed which is the exact words you will tell all people because they are holy and totally true."
      Muhammed:"Great, tell them to me in all their entirety and I shall remember them exactly to the letter and go and find somebody to write them down for me and then I shall claim I have the very words of God written down."
      God."Stop fooling around, why would I the creator of everything you see need you to perform this daunting task? I'll tell them to you but you shall also get these scrolls where everything I said is already written down exactly as I said them. Surely you don't think I'd trust a mere human to get everything I said completely right from their memory?"
      Muhammed."But if I'm your prophet and therefore need to say them first so that I can prove I didn't just make them up and have them written down myself."
      God:"You are indeed my prophet and therefore you shall bring forth these written words which I God wrote down for you on these scrolls for you to spread to everybody. Everybody in your hometown already knows you're illiterate so what do you have to prove to them? They also know that you went into the desert all by yourself so who could you possibly find out there in the middle of nowhere who would have written this down for you or for you to have stolen these scrolls - which don't have any monetary value to you as a mere camel merchant?
      Muhammed."But isn't it better if I just recite your words out of my own memory to somebody who can write and *then* claim these written scrolls are your words?"
      God:"I'm not in the mood for jokes. I already told you you can recite my words all you want but to spread my words faster I have already prepared these special scrolls for you and the minute somebody reads them they'll immediately know these words could only have come from God so they won't believe you, a mere camel merchant, either wrote them down himself, or had hired somebody to write them down for you which is equally bad, even if you try to claim that they were from yourself.
      Muhammed."So you simply chose me to be your messenger?"
      God."Precisely. I chose you because you're a nobody who can't read or write himself just because you're a simpleton yourself. This is my great plan. They will ALL know these brilliant words couldn't possibly have come from your stupid and ignorant head so then they will also ALL know they therefore can't have been made up by you but are mine."
      Muhammed:"Ah yes, what was I thinking. I apologize oh humble lord. I'm a mere human and want some time in the spotlight or my moment of glory."
      God:"When you show the people my holy scrolls you will go down in history as the man who was chosen by God to spread his divine scrolls, isn't that enough?"
      Muhammed:"Ah yes, it is a great privilege but I only will have one set of scrolls."
      God:"No problem. As soon as you give my holy scrolls to somebody who can read I shall conjure up a new set of scrolls for you to give somebody else who can read. In fact I want you to deliver these scrolls to a thousand important people in your society and particularly scholars. And this too will be the best evidence of the scrolls being from me because book printing won't be invented for another 700 years so how can you Muhammed have a thousand identical sets of holy scrolls who all look exactly the same unless those scrolls come from God?? This way my words will spread far faster too."
      Muhammed:"But what if they still doubt me and think I made the words up?"
      God:"I wouldn't worry about that oh you simple-minded human. These words are highly complex and a work of utterly superior genius. Even though they are so highly complex ordinary people will instantly understand their genius because that is what simple, uneducated people always do. God's words are far beyond their own capabilities to create but they will still understand it perfectly."
      Muhammed:"But if it's so complex won't people misunderstand it and interpret it wrong?"
      God:"Well, that's not my fault it's theirs. If they can't make sense of the complex texts or read them wrong and therefore don't act in accordance to them that will be their fault. The text is perfect the people can't just understand it's perfection so whatever they do wrong can't be the fault of the scripture."
      Muhammed:"I may be a mere camel merchant but I thought you just say that everybody would instantly understand the complexities of the scrolls and thus immediately conclude these are the words of God? How can they claim to understand it and its genius if they misunderstand it and do wrong?"
      God:"Well, I have thought about this and already have a solution. I shall require a special class of scroll experts become something called mullahs and they will always understand the complex text perfectly whereas regular people will just have to listen to the mullahs and their wisdom."
      Muhammed."Why not create something which is brilliant but still easy to understand? YOU if anybody have the ability to explain even the most complex things in simple terms for mere, uneducated humans. In fact it would be far better if you made the text simple, full of basic wisdom, grandeur and simple rules of life. This way nobody can risk making the mistake of misunderstanding your text and do something bad..."
      God:"Ok fine. We'll do it your way then. Don't want free scrolls conjured up with my exact words written down? Then go and recite them instead to whoever you come across who can write them down first. Do it the hard way. Do you want glory? Ok, rather than making it easy for you by providing everybody free scrolls of God's words I'll let you go out on a long war where you have to fight the infidels of the surrounding cities and history will record you as a warlord instead who took slaves, took little girls as wives and spread the faith by sword.
      Muhammed:"Oh thank you my dear lord."
      God:"Yeah, yeah, Just go out and do your thing. I knew I shouldn't have picked an illiterate camel merchant to be my messenger but now when I have revealed myself to you I can't just wipe your memory clean and find somebody better suited to spread my words. I'll have to make do with you."
      (and this is why everybody with a shred of common sense doesn't believe in any of those ancient stories today).

      Molecular clock analysis only looks at the non-coding parts of DNA, the parts of the DNA that don't actually make proteins and thus don't have an impact on the organism. Assuming the rate of mutation is relatively stable, we can estimate a rough time for when the organism's last common ancestor diverged. Now, mutation rates are definitely not entirely stable, but they're constant enough to get a rough estimate.
      And humans have about 3,026,520,672 noncoding base pairs, so 7,500 isn't that big of a difference.

      In population genetics, fixation is the change in a gene pool from a situation where there exists at least two variants of a particular gene (allele) in a given population to a situation where only one of the alleles remains.
      Fixation is the measure of the molecular clock. 7500 bases changing in the fixed genome would be astounding. The evolutionists would be blowing trumpets from the rooftops.

    • @somedude140
      @somedude140 5 лет назад +20

      @@Mdebacle I don't really think you know what you're talking about. Each generation there will be mutations, which usually occur at a steady rate. By comparing the noncoding genomes of two individuals you can make a rough estimate at when their last common ancestor lived. It is standard practice to double-check the number by cross-checking with other members of each population, but you never look at either population as a whole, only the individual's genomes and the mutations in their ancestry.
      Fixation is also accounted for because we only look at the noncoding parts of the genome, the parts of the genome that have no actual effect on the organism and thus aren't affected by natural selection.
      Again, 7500 may seem like a big number, but not compared to 3,026,520,672.

Now try to stay with me 'cos this gets tricky -the idea in your head about some thing, any thing, is just that-an idea in your head. Nothing more(though u people think these "ideas" are facts). The idea in yr head is a tiny, partial, fragmented and false idea of reality that u mistake for some ultimate reality(that does not exist-even Einstein said this, but hey I'm sure u guys are smarter than Einstein)lol. Really try to understand this and u may learn something truly valuable about yourself.

      "What people of your "level" will never understand(maybe in yr next life) is that all science is just theory" - And what is a scientific theory?
      [A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that is acquired through the scientific method and repeatedly tested and confirmed through observation and experimentation.]
      2 seconds on google will tell you that. People on your "level" can't even FUCKING GOOGLE!
      "the idea in your head about some thing, any thing, is just that-an idea in your head." - That is not the definition of scientific theory... why is that hard for you to understand?
      "Really try to understand this and u may learn something truly valuable about yourself." - You definitely should try to understand simple science definitions so you don't look fucking stupid. You are aware that some words have multiple meanings right? Like if I said "I rocked in my chair for a few minutes" that doesn't mean I turned into a rock, it means I have a chair that moves in a rocking motion. So why is it that you can't understand that theory also has multiple definitions and that science is literally ONLY REFERRING TO ONE OF THOSE EVER!? Answer that simple question.

      The whole premise of this video is wrong. Evolution is not a theory like electricity or magnetism; it is a pagan belief that matter, when left alone, will become a power pole and the technician who climbs it. For example, did birds evolve from dinosaurs? What an absurdity, yet naturalists will go on record to say that, somehow, scales evolved into feathers.
      Evolution has gutted our society. We have gone from 'love your neighbor' to Darwin's law of the jungle. We have gone from women walking safely at night in the park to mass shootings so commonplace, they hardly make the news anymore.
      You cannot say that I did not warn you. God will judge the world in righteousness. Heaven is real, but so is hell and all liars will have their place in the lake of fire. Instead, he sought to undermine God, thereby deposing the king. It worked! People bought his 'Principles of Geology,' including the young scientist by the name of Charles Darwin. Charles was bitter at God because of the painful death of his daughter. Both he and Lyell were atheists. Are you saying their atheism did not hinder impartial discovery? Experimentation is open to any result. Equally to prove and disprove. But you will actually be "famous" is you can change the direction of a theory in a major way. It already got sigma 5, but confirming that result again would also be good science, especially if it was doen in another collider or by another method.
      Faith is really: I do not understand the world, so I just listen to what others says, and embraces what makes me feel satisfied.
      What is worrysome about faith and religions, is that it opens up a can of worms with other equally stupid ideas.

      @AllSeeingEye ofGod these ideas are an Interesse ting thought experiment but they're easily challenged.
      The unmoved mover is based on the idea that every existing thing has a cause. It then says that if each thing has a cause, then there must be a first cause, an "unmoved mover" which itself isn't motivated by a cause but simply existing on its own. This unmoved mover is what's interpreted as God, but that's simply an intuition. The process doesn't offer any kind of proof, simply a "logical" process. However, the unmoved mover might very well be something else than the God you're referring to. It could be the universe itself. It could be some thing that has disappeared since. There is no necessity for it to be All knowing, all powerful, or even aware of humans. AND, the reasoning itself might be flawed. The idea that everything has a cause isn't proven and is itself an intuition.
      The second idea you mention is self referring and I didn't delve deep into it because it honestly seems based on belief more than anything else.
      It's interesting talking to someone who actually tries to defend their position on religion though, and I enjoyed reading into what you had to offer.

They blamed the Jews for Jesus death and that’s where it all began. What do you think have hitler the idea that Jews were the problem? Roman Catholics. A lot of people don’t like to admit that. And Stalin might have enforced atheism but he didn’t kill for atheism. He killed all the intelligent people actually. If you were smart and read books he would order you to be killed because he was afraid of people becoming smart and revolting against him. That’s also part of the reason he hated religion, because if your religion taught you that you should value freedom then he saw it as a threat, which is why he preferred atheism. Actually we have seen this many times throughout Russian history. Overall, not once was there a time where a leader ordered the deaths of theists in the name of atheism. So I beg to differ. Now religion on the other hand has killed more people the both world wars combined. The crusades made ww2 look like a child’s playground. And all of that was in the name of Christianity. Not to mention religion has caused more wars then any other topic known to man.

    After growing up in church, I have learned to appreciate the moralistic views the bible has taught me; how to respect other people, to not repay evil-for-evil, to criticize my own actions before criticizing others, to not let the sun go down while i'm still angry. These concepts have really matured me as human being. The one thing I do regret though, is believing all the other bullshit that came with these morals. I used to tithe 10% of my money from the 5th grade all the way through 11th. Money that I could have spent on cool ass lego sets...wasted to fictional stories

      +Andrew W The problem is 1. you can get these morals from moral philosospy and from atheistic means which were created before the so-called morals of the Bible (such as from the Chinese, before even the Greeks, let alone the desert dwellers whom wrote the Bible), 2. simply from yourself over time (if you're a moral human being in the 21st century) and or 3. simply from atheistic/secular society and your parents etc. No Bible nor religion is needed. The kindest humans I care to mention were/are all atheists, some of them also happen to be some of the most brave and moral humans in noted history.
      Therefore it means nothing at all to credit such morals to the church and in fact, it only subtracts from the morality itself and also hides away the true amorality and evil of the church.

    Holy crap a LOT of people really don't know what a theory is. Its sad, and frustrating how little so many of understand about science and how it works. Truly sad.

    • @stevew1904
      @stevew1904 9 лет назад

      I think I understand what a theory is. A theory is a hypothesis that is proposed by a scientist based on observations. A scientific theory must be subject to the possibility of disproof. If it cannot be disproved, it is not theory but a dogma. In the 150+ years since Darwin proposed his theory of evolution, the fossil record has failed miserably to confirm its truth. Ask any evolutionist the question "Can you show, from the fossil record, a clear and undisputed line of evolutionary forms that leads from one type of organism to a different type" and they will be unable to oblige. Evolution remains a theory and is, as yet, completely unproven. It has therefore become a dogma.

    • @jeans1515
      @jeans1515 9 лет назад +2

      I can very easily show you many lines... actually... pick any one. Whale evolution is extremely well represented in the fossil record. But you won't accept it so it's pointless for me to try. Good day. And you still don't really understand what a theory is.

    • @jeans1515
      @jeans1515 9 лет назад +3

      You see, the problem is... I will show you one line of evolution and you will say "so where is the transition between A and B?" and I will show you one, C, and you will say "but where are the transitions between A and C?" and I will show you D, and you will cry "But where are the transitions between C and D?". And THAT shows that you do not understand the theory of evolution. There really are two sides to this debate... those who deny evolution and those who understand it.

    • @stevew1904
      @stevew1904 9 лет назад

      jeans1515 Your position appears to be undermined by those who are experts in the field.
      The lack of transitional forms in the fossil record was realized by evolutionary whale experts like the late E.J. Slijper: ‘We do not possess a single fossil of the transitional forms between the aforementioned land animals [i.e., carnivores and ungulates] and the whales.’ (E.J. Slijper, Dolphins and Whales (Ann Arbor, MI: University of Michigan Press, 1962), p. 17)
      You are no doubt referring to this series in your claim of whale evolution:
      • Mesonychid (55 million years ago)
      • Ambulocetus (50 million years ago)
      • Rodhocetus (46 million years ago)
      • Basilosaurus (40 million years ago)
      In evolution text books, these creatures are drawn at the same size to give the illusion of an evolutionary pathway. In fact Mesonychids varied in size between 1 and 2 metres long. Ambulocetus was about 2 metres long. Rodhocetus was about 3 metres long and Basilosaurus was about 21 metres long. So we are led to understand that this creature, 10 times longer than its ancestors, was a direct descendent? This seems a little deceptive on the part of the evolutionist authors.
      You may wish to consider the following opinions in relation to this.
      The evolutionary biologist Annalisa Berta commented on the single known Ambulocetus fossil:
      "Since the pelvic girdle is not preserved, there is no direct evidence in Ambulocetus for a connection between the hind limbs and the axial skeleton. This hinders interpretations of locomotion in this animal, since many of the muscles that support and move the hind limb originate on the pelvis." (J.G.M. Thewissen, S.T. Hussain, and M. Arif, Fossil Evidence for the Origin of Aquatic Locomotion in Archeocete Whales, Science 263(5144):210-212, 14 January 1994. Perspective by A. Berta, What is a Whale?, same issue, p. 180-181. )
      Barbara Stahl, a vertebrate paleontologist and evolutionist, points out:
      "The serpentine form of the body and the peculiar shape of the cheek teeth make it plain that these archaeocetes [like Basilosaurus] could not possibly have been the ancestor of modern whales."
      Stahl points out the following regarding the skull structure in both types:
      "… shows a strange modification not present, even in a rudimentary way, in Basilosaurus and its relatives: in conjunction with the backward migration of the nostrils on the dorsal surface of the head, the nasal bones have been reduced and carried upwards and the premaxillary and maxillary elements have expanded to the rear to cover the original braincase roof." (B.J. Stahl, Vertebrate History: Problems in Evolution (New York: McGraw-Hill, 1974), p. 489 )

      jeans1515 A scientific theory is a series of statements about the causal elements for observed phenomena. A critical component of a scientific theory is that it provides explanations and predictions that can be tested.
      The predictions of evolution can NEVER be tested and it is therefore not a scientific theory but a dogma.

    Gravity isn't a law nor a theory, it's a phenomenon. General relativity is the theory (the best we have) to explain the phenomenon, what it is and how it behaves. Same applies to evolution, it's a well known phenomenon, the fact that some people cluelessly claim that "you can't prove evolution" doesn't make it less real or proven. There's obviously still a lot to learn, and we might witness a drastic change of paradygm in biology to explain all the phenomenons (or not, who knows), but we will not discover that we were dead wrong and that evolution isn't real, the same way that we will not discover that the sun, the plants, gravity or electromagnetism aren't real.

      Corry Burton the scientific method is literally based on repeatable experimentation. If it didn’t depend on the past, you by definition couldn’t repeat an experiment. If you limit scientific knowledge to now, then it’s impossible to know anything because now is always a fleeting moment. And it’s impossible to gain scientific knowledge because you can’t verify anything because only one experiment you conduct at a time can possibly be now. Science is entirely concerned with taking past observations and making future predictions. The accuracy of those future predictions is how you judge the accuracy of your model of describing the past. Your statement is not meaningfully distinct from advocating hard solipsism. Of course real science is concerned with both the past and future.

      I've read some of the Bible and I don't see any conflict between it and Science. The early books of the Bible are more allegorical rather than factual, but the more recent books are based on reality. When you understand the Bible is meant to be instruction from God on how to live, rather than an explanation of how the Universe works, you should be able to practice Science without any concern. Just know that believers will test Science the same as Aetheists will test believers. Believers have a right to expect sound Science also.

    It's not like people have to choose between believing a god exists and accepting evolution as fact, because it is and we have evidence to demonstrate that. Evolution claims nothing about God, at all. Personally I'm an atheist but the thought that there is a God of some kind that created the universe is not disproven by evolution it's just that it conflicts with the Genesis part of the Bible and the biblical creation story. Yea, the theory of evolution by natural selection does indeed contradicts the creation story in the Bible but unless you're the type of Christian that believes the Bible in every aspect to be taken LITERALLY (like Noah's ark, Adam and Eve, Jonah and the whale, tower of Babel, etc. and other utterly ridiculous impossible myths in the Bible) than there's no problem believing in the two. I guarantee every Christian, even the super literal fundamentalists don't carry out and abide by every single 613 commandments given in the Bible so therefore they obviously don't take every single thing in it seriously so why deny evolution when there is more evidence to support it than there is to support gravity and make a fool of yourself by saying you don't think it's true and also that geologists are wrong because the earth is around 6000 years old. It's insane. It's stupid. Also the majority of people have not even the most basic knowledge on how evolution actually works and yet the ones who deny it have very strong opinions against it! How can one have strong opinions against something they don't even slightly understand?!?
