    Welcome to my new NoLimits 2 series! For a long time I've been fascinated by the history of wooden coasters, specifically those from the golden era of amusement parks in the early 20th century. Too many have been demolished over the years, including some very famous ones. I wanted to resurrect some of these designs and recreate them with a modern twist, starting with Riverview Park's iconic coaster, The Bobs.

    This needs to be Resurrected somewhere...... it's so sad that it was demolished, it looked like one hell of a fun coaster to ride

    Back in the day I'd stand out in a walkway that was behind the triple-track 270 deg. curve structure that was the Bob's main feature, observing for a time the effect when 2 running trains passed through that curve simultaneously. You bet those wooden timbers shook then, with curves #1 & #2 there being considerably banked. At that age I was also building the Aurora HO Model Motoring racetracks at home on my living room floor (much to the aggravation of my sisters) and built a big course that replicated nicely the layout of the Bob's coaster

    Nice 👍
    That middle section and final section with the airhills looks so good.

    This would be a good ride. Prior and Church layouts are good enough to shine through more restrictive modern coaster trains, as seen with rides like the Santa Cruz Giant Dipper (legitimately one of the best coasters out there, even though it has Morgan trains).

    OMG!!!! This brings back so many memories for me! I was just 11 years old when Riverview closed but the memories are seared into my brain. It was where I had my first experiences with rollercoasters and where I fell in love with them; a love affair that continues to this day! The Bobs and Fireball were particularly fearsome coasters, especially as a kid. I was both incredibly excited and frightened out of my wits every time I rode them. But the Flash, Comet, Greyhound, Jetstream and Wild Mouse were no slouches either. Thank you, thank you, thank you for doing this!

      I was sad when it was closed. The lie was that gangs were causing too many problems, but the reality was prime real estate for further development. All about the Benjamins!

    Great video ..! Just last week I posted on F.B about the Bob's & low & behold I find this wonderful tribute to the Bob's. On my F.B ! post, I have a pic of the Bobs & a video of the" Steel Vengeance" In Ohio ,which reminds me of the Bobs of the 21 century altho a wood & steel coaster a hybrid... Being a Chicagoan the Bobs was infamous & famous, at the same time; there was nothing like it.
    It was a rite of passage for many young people including myself growing's up in Chicago..it struck terror in the hearts of many & some just would not ride it for the fear & it's reputation.. It was" Powerful" & made a thunderous noise & shook the ground as it roared by...It was like a" Living Beast"... Their was a huge display on the platform of lost ear rings, jewelry, of every kind, false teeth, old wallets, it must have been a ton of lost items that was found on the Bobs over many years; Maybe one day it will be reconstructed for the 21centry to thrill & strike terror in the hearts of those living today.. Thank You for this video, it brought back Riverview & the Bobs of my youth..!

    • @bowtr0
      @bowtr0 Год назад +2

      There is NO WAY the Bobs could be reconstructed as it was today and not even thirty or forty years ago. It was very "unsafe" because you were not "locked in" to your seat, as you are now. You really had to hold on tight. It was really hard to stay sitting in your seat through the hard turns and when soaring over the crest of a hill. The hard turns were unbelievably scary. Forget about the speed going downhill. That was scary, but safe.

      Later in life, long after Riverview closed for good, I fell in love with coasters, but wow, you sure are right that The Bobs scared kids away. I was, to my great regret now, among the scardee cats! Crap!😂

      @@bowtr0 Would like to know actually how many people since it's opening in the 1920's got killed or injured..I remember that, they walked the tracts & did safety checks on the Bob's every morning ...I think I had heard a guy got killed because he stood up doing the Bob's 1st decent down..which if true sadly was his fault ,because their was a sign at the very top warning Not To Stand Up...

    Nice tribute to the Bobs.. Riverview itself was a gritty and great experience that both thrilled and scared many of the kids who went there. It was the kind of place you went to that gave you a feeling in the back of your mind that you could die here. I truly miss the place and its end was abrupt and without warning.

      They did, it was "The Raging Wolf Bob's " at Geauga Lake. They tamed it a little, and like this version it didn't have the extra curve of track under the station before the lift hill. If you looked at the original from the front there were 4 turns facing the midway. I rode the one at Geauga Lake back in 1990 and it was pretty fast. They didn't have the Prior and Church style trains so the track got beat up over the years and it rode pretty rough as I understand.

    • @thisoldcub100
      @thisoldcub100 2 года назад

      @@johnruskin4290 Yes I actually grew up riding the RWB but I think it was tamed down quite a bit and no where near as intense as the og. Wish they would rebuild the Bobs per the original blueprints similar to what was done with the Zippin Pippin up in Green Bay.

    • @johnruskin4290
      @johnruskin4290 2 года назад

      @@thisoldcub100 I agree, RWB wasn't as good as the original, but we at least had it for a little while. There are plenty of lost classic coasters that deserve to be rebuilt.

    I lived very close to Riverview growing up and there was only 2 straight tracks on the Bobs - going up the first hill and ending in the loading platform - in the middle of the ride there was kind of straight tracks with a few bobs in them - each car had only 1 seat which enabled the train to go through those amazing turns - and you had to hang on when you rode the best roller coaster ever - great stuff.

    Interesting. But you’ve missed something which I believe was key to why the Riverview Bobs was so well regarded. On the Bobs, the major turns alternated directions; Left, Right, Left, Right, and then Right again, just to mix it up. On you version, it’s Left, Right, Right, Right, Right; Similar to the Revere Beach Cyclone, but reversed. The terrain aspects mean it’s still probably a better ride than the Cyclone, but I still think it’s missing su something important.

    This looks fantastic. The original ride looks absolutely bonkers with those high speed underbanked turns that would deliver wicked laterals and those sharp airtime hills that nobody seems to talk about, but look like they'd deliver ejector airtime. Its really amazing that the ride was ever even built, because it looks insane. Although I would be unsure if I would ride the original as it looks so intense that it would probably be painful.
    The one you built captures the layout of the original, but bigger and less intense, which makes it better because the original wouldn't have re-rideability for almost everyone. Its also less painful looking, and just looks like a better ride. I really do wish this was a real ride, because it looks great.
    But could you imagine an RMC of the original? That may end up being the first time the original ride was more insane than the RMC.

    Fundamentally incorrect video-Bobs layout, because exiting the station the train tracks first turned to the left, not the right (as depicted here), then did a zig-zag curving to go beneath the station and finally wind up at the right-hand turn to proceed up the very first hill

    What an amazing video! Is it possible for you to add one of the Comet at Meyers Lake in Canton, Ohio? The videos of it aren't very good as the airtime on the ride knocks the video camera around making it hard to really see the intensity of the ride!! Thanks!

    Its a beautiful byild but i think you banked it too much. Also at the beginning it had this super quick zig zag that slammed you into the side of the train before the lift.

    Fun, but inaccurate. I rode the Bobs many times. Out of the station the train went left, not right, made 2 more left turns under the tract then right to ascend the lift hill.
