the greatest part of "jaws" was the psychology feel, you never really saw it, until it was too late...that eerie feeling anytime you go in the ocean, anyway.
you can see above the water for a long distance but you really have no idea what or where anything is under the water..until its too late.
nowadays any shark movie, they show it all the time, no matter if its close or far or supposedly sneaking up..
maybe they surprise you once or twice, but in "jaws" the music fux w/ your senses no other movie can or does.

When the original jaws first came out it scared people that much holiday makers were scared to go swimming in the sea especially in the USA.
My brother was 5 years older than me. As kids we saw Jaws. In college we went to a theater & quoted all the lines like "Rocky Horror" & everyone hated us......Pippet, Larry, Chrissy, silva the harbor Master, Bruce the shark.....whenever there was a anniversary or it was on cable I called my brother. He passed away last month. In his honor I'm all in on this be/ Matt Hooper is in it.....Miss you Kev!!!!

Ask much as I admire Richard Dreyfuss, no movie will compare to the original Jaws movie. It was assigned reading in my high school before the movie came out.
My homeroom teacher read to us when I was in the 8th grade. That was 1974. And, in 1975, it was a movie.

The book kinda sucks honestly. Hooper dying doesn’t bother me at all but if I remember correctly he has an affair with Brody’s wife, which adds nothing to the story.
One good thing the book does add though is that it explains that the mayor is somehow involved with the mafia, which partly explains why he wants to keep the beaches open no matter what. He needs to keep money flowing in, so he can pay off whatever trouble he’s into. Eventually he relents after so many people die though.
Some of those book details might be wrong. It’s been forever since I read it.

They cannot defeat Jaws but some new shark movies are also cool like deep blue sea, the meg and the shallows. They have their own spotlight.I'm also looking forward to the up coming movie "maneater". As I watch the trailer, it's not cheap and boring but dark and gorry... But honestly, some of the new shark movies are actually boring and low quality when it comes to visual effects. Some of it is not realistic too. Like for example, sandsharks, snow sharks and ice sharks, they are cheap and boring. In my opinion in malibu shark, it can be awesome but the problem is its visual effects. I find it boring and cheap. Though it's gorry and brutal.

This looks like another Meg movie, where size of the armaments, explosions and size of the shark is all they care about.

Richard Dreyfus was so good in the first one. When he tied that Sheep Shank, but Brody couldn't figure out a Bow Line, the easiest knot beyond tying your shoes.. +1 for Matt Hooper.

Later in life, Peter Benchley admitted he greatly regretted writing JAWS because of the fear and slaughter it brought afterwards. Speilberg felt much the same. Not only does this movie look terrible, but JAWS never needed sequels and needs a reboot even less.

After 49 years it's still a top 10 movie of all time, it still holds up, I hope next year for the 50th anniversary it's released in theaters so this generation can experience it like we did in 1975.

That's because Spielberg didn't tell him that was going to happen. Scheider wasn't thinking, "The shark is still out there," because he was too distracted by the smelly chum.

For a few minutes I thought this was real. Glad I had a hunch to research it first. Shooting missiles into the ocean to kill a shark is the inanity that a modern remake of a classic IP would indeed employee. The only thing that would accomplish destroying is another great IP from that era.

The original Jaws changed the way i look at water forever. No oceans for me since. Id be sunning in my pool and all of a sudden get scared! Not exaggerating. Scariest movie i ever saw. Even the Exorcist didnt affect me like Jaws.

Someone needs to tell Dreyfus, Arnold, Stallone, Harrison Ford, to stop beating a dead horse. Make a Grumpy old Men or Cocoon reboot if you want. But we’re over the 70ish year old action heroes. I’m 50. I can’t tie my laces and breathe at the same time.

I have a tendency to believe the first comment I read the original jaws was just that the original the first one made about a killer shark over the years. They’ve come up with dozens of shark movies, which was nothing but a ripoff of the original jaws Steven Spielberg did an outstanding job. He had a vision when he made that film and it will never be duplicated to this day or ever. I’m sure the new shark movie with Richard Dreyfuss will be entertaining, but it probably will not be as good as the original 1975 blockbuster.

The final Jaws movie should be a Megalodon to start a new reboot or continuation of the past. Since we haven't had any Jaws movies in quite some time.
