      +Kate Statt I am really confused about the kind of oil that is used for pulling. In the region that I live, there's all liquid oil. Nothing that comes in blocks or that needs to be melted. So do I take the normal coconut oil that I use for my hair and skin or do I use any other kind of oil? Please help me a little with that.

    • @katestatt
      @katestatt 8 лет назад +9

      +Aafreen Ansari it just has to be pure coconut oil (without any chemicals or so, you should be able to use it for cooking), it doesn't matter if it's liquid or not :) mine's not liquid (only in summer) but it gets liquid with the saliva

    As a dental hygienist I do NOT recommend oil pulling with any oil other than coconut oil! Brown oils will stain your teeth the same way coffee and tea do. Although there is little scientific research I personally have seen incredible results from people who have oil pulled with coconut oil only, whereas other oils (like olive oil) have caused more staining than usual. My patients particularly love it for dry mouth relief.

    This is my oil pulling experience. I had a lot of blemishes and my teeth was yellow, but I oil pulled for a month and my skin cleared up and people continuously mentioned my white teeth! But recently, I ran out of coconut oil and haven't bothered to repurchase, and I've noticed acne popping up here and there so I'm planning to buy a new jar of unrefined coconut oil later.

    To answer some questions I've seen below,
    - Use coconut oil as it has the best benefits.
    - Do it on an empty stomach. Straight after you wake up is the best time.
    - Aim to swish the oil around in your mouth for approximately 20 minutes.
    - Spit it into a trash can, and not the sink as the oil could cause blockages.
    - Some say you should swill with warm salt water.
    - Brush teeth AFTER oil pulling. Use your normal routine with toothpaste, and floss.
    - Proceed with your normal day.
    - To be repeated several days of the week. Results usually appear after two weeks.
    Good luck with oil pulling! To the beauty community hurrah!

    Ive only been oil pulling for a few months and have noticed an ENORMOUS difference. And Im still trying to remember to do it every day!! So on average, I DO get to it at least 3 times a week...working on 7 and only once a day, but want to get to 7x2. Point is, i no longer have ANY mouth problems from thrush (I have lupus and struggle with thrush from it) My digestive issues from the meds I take are MUCH easier to cope with. The headaches that the docs havent been able to touch in YEARS....are gone. At 46 yrs old...of all the things I wish I'd started young....this is one of them!! I use virgin coconut with a bit of myrrh and oregano. (ALL my facial/hair..etc is all made by me with essential oils..even my cleaning products!) For any doubters out there...heres a test for you. Brush you teeth like you've never brushed em before. Then floss...then brush again. Hell, gargle with your fave mouthwas then brush AGAIN!! Then oil pull. Just WATCH and see what you spit out of a presumed sparkly clean mouth! Especially if you use coconut oil! It goes in pristine white...and comes out dingy swamp water brown...lol.. Theres your sign!!

    My husband and I just started oil pulling every morning. He has genetically bad teeth and it helps heal cavities since teeth are porous and it pulls out the toxins. One thing to keep in mind is that you must use a toothpaste free of glycerin while you are pulling. Glycerin coats the teeth so much that you'd have to vigorously rinse your mouth an estimated 27 times to remove it and it inhibits remineralizing or the rebuilding of the teeth. Also avoid any pastes with sodium phosphate because this is an endocrine disruptor and effects hormone balances. And, finally, fluoride acts as a neurotoxin to humans and can cause fetal brain damage if used while pregnant or even cause children to go into an early puberty. It has also been said to be linked to bone loss. Fluoride is actually banned from use in water in most countries.

Been doing it for about 3 years now and genuinely can't imagine not doing it now. At first the 20 minutes seemed to take forever, but now it just flies by. One thing worth noting - if you do use coconut oil don't spit it down the sink as when it cools it will harden again and clog up the pipes!

      I oil pull on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. After that is done I rinse my mouth out with water with a tiny pinch of sea salt in it. By then it is time for my morning porridge and once that has gone down with a cup of coffee - time to brush my teeth! I'm not sure if the brushing is really necessary as when I am finished oil pulling, my mouth is actually squeaky clean (and that is before rinsing with water) but I guess I do it more out of habit than anything - and I like the taste of Arm and Hammer toothpaste. If you give this a go would love to know how you get on :)

    omg, my first experience was crazy already. i sloshed around some sesame oil for 20 minutes. the time went by way faster than i'd thought. i spit it out, rinsed a bit to get the oil out, and call me strange, but i took a look at the _visible_ bacteria that came out of my mouth- and there was a lot. it definitely got out the bacteria that brushing couldn't get to. i'm not sure if this is just me, but aside from a small headache from sloshing around the oil, i already felt better and refreshed. My teeth included if that's even possible. no seriously. what is this magic? im not sure but now i know i'll be doing it everyday xD Thanks, Sarah. You never cease to amaze me.

      Rafael Cozzarelli you can use any kind of oil, as long as it's safe to put in your body, just in case you swallow some. Just use your common instincts on what type of oil to use. If you get confused, just choose a typical oil that you would cook with. I've heard coconut oil has the most benefits. I just used regular sesame oil, and it worked totally fine. And no, it doesn't have to be organic, but it would be better if it is.

    Change to an all natural toothpaste as well. Make sure it does not contain glycerin. My favorite toothpaste is Earthpaste made by Redmond. It comes is several flavors and contains bentonite clay. I love it! It doesn't foam, does not contain any fluoride, artificial flavors, bleaching agents, or glycerin and is safe to swallow.

    My mom suggested oil pulling when I got a tooth ache which was due to cavity and couldn't visit the dentist due to some reasons. I tried it instantly. Everyday in the morning before brushing your teeth or eating anything. My tooth ache went away in a week and my teeth whitened a lot! Many people noticed my whitened teeth too!

    I'm 60 years old & went to my dentist last month who told me my gingivitis had turned into periodontitis despite regularly brushing & flossing. Guess i just wasn't flossing/brushing as thoroughly in the back of my mouth as I thought. Now I have to go in for treatment every 3-4 months. I was not happy. I mentioned this to my daughter a week or so ago & she said to try oil pulling. I had never even heard of it before but went online to check it out. I already had coconut oil in the kitchen (always do), figured I'd try it out, can't hurt, might help. So for about 1.5 weeks I've been pulling in the morning AND after dinner, before bedtime (I'm swishing right now before leaving for the pool). I've already seen a difference--my teeth are a little whiter & there isn't as much plaque as before. When I brush & floss my gums don't bleed as much, my whole mouth feels better. I go back to the dentist in June & I am anxious to see if he says my condition has improved. At first pulling was uncomfortable but I got used to it, I goof around on the computer while doing it. I also recommend using unrefined coconut oil. I had a jar but was almost out, when I finished I switched to another jar, not realizing it was refined oil. What a difference--it was gross. I don't taste it after the first minute, but I'm getting another jar this weekend of unrefined oil & keep the refined for cooking. Anyway, I just wish I had discovered this method years ago.

    After watching your very informative and interesting video I decided to conduct some research on oil pulling benefits myself and came across an article that had this excerpt: "People use different types of oil such as sesame and sunflower oil, but these oils both have omega 6 fats that are pro-inflammatory, and most of us have too much of these in our diet as it is. Coconut oil is preferred because 50% of the fat in coconut oil is comprised of the bacteria whooping ingredient lauric acid. Lauric acid is very well known for its antimicrobial actions; it inhibits Strep mutans that are the primary bacteria that cause tooth decay. "
    I know you mentioned in your video you also use coconut oil. I reckon I'll combine coconut oil with some peppermint oil for freshness.
    I had never heard of this technique before stumbling across your video so thank you so much!

      anapitu72 Sorry for the late reply, according to various sources olive oil if it's fresh, extra virgin and cold pressed is anti inflammatory. However most people wouldn't use it because of the strong flavour and so swishing it around in your mouth for 20 minutes wouldn't be pleasant. Almond oil is another option that imparts a nutty flavour or alternatively avocado oil which tastes very clean and is mild in flavour can also be used :)

    I thought it was bs like a lot of trends, but I was bored so I tried it and I liked the clean feeling afterwards so I kept doing it from time to time without any expectations. But after a while (sometime I did it 4 times a week sometimes not even once for like 3 months) I noticed that the upper part of my teeth which tends to be more yellowish than the lower part was now white as well. So my teeth had a uniform colour finally, something that I couldn't even get after the dentist.
    What I used: olive oil
    conclusion: I don't think that oil pulling lightens the teeth (lighter than thir natural color) but it indeed cleans it very well, so will make it sort of white in the end. It also reduces bad breath, although for that I highly recommend buying one of those ayurvedic copper tongue scrapers.

    I heard about oil pulling before, but I never thought I wanna do it, because I felt this disgusting and I didn't believe I can do it. You are talking about this so nicely and you just convinced me, so I decided to give a try, and.... that was just unbelievable. I didn't have any gagging and surprisingly I was pulling oil all 20 minutes like you recommend, in my very first time. Since then I implement oil pulling to my morning routine. Literally I'm looking forward to do it. I feel like without oil pulling my mouth wouldn't be clean enough, and my all body really needs this thing. I'm using rice oil, because it's very light and almost tasteless. This is my favorite base oil to remove my make up and cleanse my face. Came out that is also good for oil pulling as well. Ok, I had never heard of this before so I want to make sure I am doing it right when I try it lol

      +Chardonnay Barlow Rinse your mouth thoroughly, brush after 30 minutes. The tooth enamel softens after food contact, dentists advise not to immediately brush after eating, same with this although it isn't food. I would hope people brush first thing in the morning though.

      It’s best to oil pull before brushing your teeth (according to the videos I’ve watched)

    I only had sesame oil at home., so I tried it. I thought that using sesame oil would be the most disgusting tasting thing ever and... I was right. I'll buy some coconut oil later today, sounds a lot more appetizing. I'm gagging just thinking about sesame oil in my mouth now. Thank you for the tutorial.

    Hi there!

    I love your videos because we can use natural stuff to improve our health, etc.
    It haven t been even a week since I started doing the oil pulling with coconut oil and I already notice an improvement, I want to believe my dentist will be happy next month when I go! Ha ha

      Hi there!!
      It s been a week now and my gums are more pink, they never bleed ( I ve always tended to have gums problems) and now that s gone.
      It also seems my teeth are getting whiter but the main difference is on how clean and healthy my mouth looks and feels, I ve been doing it daily, first thing in the morning, before eating or drinking anything for 20 mins, it s not "fun" but it works, I highly recommend it!

      Thank you! I've been doing this for a couple of days and already have been seeing improvement. My teeth feel more stronger because I have sensitive teeth and have like 3 cavities. By the way, I just saw this but thank you so much for replying to me!

    • @healthyperson8214
      @healthyperson8214 6 лет назад +2

      From what people say here, it takes from one week to see small changes, then a few months, to see big teeth whitening results.

      You should brush after, because otherwise you are leaving a lot of the bacteria you have removed with oil pulling on your teeth and tongue

    • @fadiarafi6128
      @fadiarafi6128 7 лет назад

      Brush afterwards cause the toothpaste could act as a barrier for your teeth and make oill pulling less effective

    Wow! I'm 6 years late learning about this. I hope it's not too late but I've been hearing about Oil Pulling from many naturalpath persons. I just bought my coconut oil and will be Oil Pulling as of now. By the way, you did a great job explaining

    When I used coconut oil on my skin my (small amount) of acne actually got worse even though it was a great moisturiser and makeup remover it made my acne worse!

    • @atari_hmb
      @atari_hmb 8 лет назад +1

      From what I remember acne is a sign of the bacteria leaving the body. Since warm water opens the pours in order for the body to avoid over heating you can clean your face then apply the oil. I've heard of lemon helping cure acne, but this depends as each person is different.

    • @catejarboe3985

      you shouldn't use coconut oil on your skin unless your skin is really tolerant to it. it has a 4 on the comedogenic scale I think. it's going to clog your pores. something better might be argan oil or jojoba oil for your face.

    • @savannahhope3445
      @savannahhope3445 8 лет назад +2

      If coconut oil is the only thing you use at all along with eating clean, your skin will get better. Acne is one of the body's ways of showing that you are not completely internally healthy.

    • @savannahhope3445
      @savannahhope3445 8 лет назад +1

      +ruby craig oh, well maybe try using it once a day or every other day until your skin gets used to it, but maybe you broke out more because it was pulling the dirt to the surface as acne, but after a while it might clear it away

    I did the baking soda/coco oil mix and brushed my teeth. The taste was unpleasant but it seemed to dissolve the 'hard to get' plaque that I get because my teeth are extremely tight which makes them very exhausting to maintain even with regular brushing and flossing . I didn't notice immediate whitening but im sure I will if I do this like you said once a week.. But Im really pleased with how smooth every crevice of my teeth are! finally! Thanks for the advise keep up the good work:)
