I personally like his newest album and appreciate him continuing to experiment as long as his fans allow him to. You were pondering if Jay’s ballads (specifically sad love songs) were based on his past relationship(s). Most of us believe yes. Although there were scandals, he especially had a long and very public relationship with a TV anchor when he was just releasing his first album. They were madly in love with each other but it lasted short of three years, unable to continue due to the immense pressure of dating in the public eye. They broke up around the time he was making the album “On the Run” in 2007. Songs widely attributed to this particular relationship include “I’m not worthy”, “the longest movie”, “The promised love”, “How are you”, “what kind of man”, and even after marriage, his song “shouldn’t be” in this album, which you like a lot. I think the song “Shouldn’t be” really described how he finally decided to put the past in the past and move on, as that past was not meant to be. Of another note, the MV for “I’m not worthy” is purely based on their relationship and the struggles of dating in the public eye, and he directed every bit of that production, down to the outfit of the character, which resembled his ex. Another interesting point is, all this hugely popular ballads’ lyrics were written by him. I think it gives a hint how we can assume he expressed his feelings freely, as much as he felt comfortable at least.

他已經三十有四了，不若以往年輕時，我們只會回味
最後一次認真唱歌是2007年那個巡演，之後心思全放在舞台、特效、後期製作上，歌方面大部分都降key 唱，高音部分直接跳過。以前他開演唱會我起碼看兩場，13年後都不再進場看了，實在不值不斷漲的票價。
還是喜歡無與倫比的演唱會，經典又好聽
