@The_Cholosseum I guarantee that 50% of the people that voted are from China and have never actually played Wukong. It's a good game. But the combat is button mashy af. Plus, the level design kinda sucks. Invisible walls everywhere.
Black Myth Wukong winning “PLAYERS CHOICE GOTY” and not “GOTY” shows you the disconnect from the voting panel of journalists and ACTUAL GAMERS…. Geoff needs to change that.
@ Ha! Rebirth for the most part was just a new version of let the battles begin and those who fight further every level with select new tracks that were very pick and choose. Not that any of them were bad. Stellar Blade on the other hand had a a more diverse ost with a wide variety of enjoyable tracks. Each one I enjoyed listening to multiple times.

The 2024 Game Awards were just a very elaborate and expensive advertisement for Japanese+Western game studios/industry. It is no surprise that Wukong (Chinese game) and Stellar Blade (Korean game) were both snubbed given that they pose the biggest risk to the West+Japanese DEI dominated gaming industry.
Is anyone surprised honestly? We knew who the voting jury were. Doesnt matter because it won the only category that matters: Players Choice, which shows what GAMERS actually think is the best game while Gam Science is already swimming in money from the 20mil+ sales that every other game wish they even got a fraction of on the nominee list.
or most people only voted for the games they played, wukong is much more accessible for a wider audience cuz its not exclusive like astro bot and final fantasy
If I was the studio's head, I couldn't care less about the made up, back scratching club awards. Sales matter, everything else is pretentious fart sniffing.
Western gave devs are scared of beautiful women too, which is why they always seem to be trying to out-do each other to make the ugliest woman ever. I think Naughty Dog has won here. I think the Intergalactic protagonist is inspired by Neil Druckmann's wife's boyfriend.
Hogwarts was such a fun game, it should have won something, not GOTY of course, on a year with Baldur's Gate 3, Lies of P and Armored core it falls a bit behind, but still

You're not a "hardcore gamer". You just like Wukong because the devs said some based things, if they kept it quiet and the journos didn't complain about "lack of women" you would have never even play it. How does a PS exclusive game based on their mascot win GOTY when only PS players can even play it? Still baffled how exclusives to one console can win over cross-platform titles. It can’t be GOTY for only a third of gamers. 😠
Mario Galaxy won GOTY all the way back and it's only available on Nintendo consoles. Breath of the Wild is only on Nintendo & that game won GOTY. GOTY is about quality and Astro Bot is a quality game, no bugs, no jank, no performance issues, it was simply a great well made game games. Astro Bot winning against FF7 Rebirth, BM: Wukong, Elden Ring and Metaphor is surely a slap in the face of everyone and pretty much a insult to everyone's intelligence, if we had terrible games this year I wouldn't complain about Astro Bot winning, but when it's competing against all those games, it surely is something to raise a lot of eyebrows and it'll be a head-scratcher for months to come, definitely a huge L for TGA and it's credibility
I dont agree. Astro Bot is a near 10/10 game. It's as good as any 3D Mario game, it absolutely deserved GOTY, at least to be in the running. Black Myth is also amazing and should have probably won, but either winning makes sense. Stellar Blade being snubbed is pure BS, though.
The fact you compared it to Mario tells you it’s copy/paste. Black Myth strived for more in execution. It was that great of an experience for players. Stellar Blade also snubbed. Korean and Chinease devs are giving players what they want. Not just copy/paste plat-former to compete in the gaming space
@@StrawHatGamingg You got to learn to read slower man he said it's good as any mario game not that it's like Mario to which I agree. Some of the best games of all time are mario games
@StrawHatGamingg First off, I didn't say "it was like Mario" I said it's as good as. Games like Mario Galaxy and Mario 64 are some of the best games ever made. Astro Bot is on that level. It does things completely new that even Mario has never done. It's an amazing game the entire way through and never gets boring at all. Wukong is another great game but it's essentially just another Souls like game. If anything I'd say it suffers more from "same-itus" then Astro Bot does. To me, Wukong was great but coming off of Elden Ring, it didn't stand out that much to me in comparison. Astro Bot felt totally fresh and awesome. The whole way through I was like "damn that's cool" or "Mario needs to take some notes here." You have to understand how monumental that is. Literally NO 3D platformer game has been ever been on Mario's level. Ever. This is the first non-Mario game that TRULY challenges the Plumber for supremacy. I didn't even think it was possible at this point for a non-Nintendo game to achieve something like this. It's that big of a deal.
In other timelines of integrity, Stellar Blade and Black Myth Wukong would have won awards and journalists and media would have begged for sequels. Chinese and Korean developers have taken it up a notch for consoles and are releasing games that feel like actual video games.
I have no hate for Astrobot and I'm glad they were rewarded for their hard job, but to give them GOTY when there was Wukong on the line, that's hilariously bad.
The only way to force them to stop and change, is for all of us to stop giving the awards a single minute of attention. Without an audience, an awards show is no better than a dinner with coworkers.
I already don't watch it. I'm not sure how to not watch it any harder. I guess I could close my eyes while I click "do not recommend video" next time. I hope I don't miss.

Wukong is the definition of Generic. 3rd person action adventure with rpg elements, Story based on mythology. Both of those things are common in gaming especially the first one. Good Platformers outside Nintendo are rare as hell.
They gave ASTRO Bot the GOTY award because it's the SAFEST win they could give, because they could either give games like Dragon Age: The Failgaurd, Dustborn and others the win (or any win for that) and risk being boycotted by fans, or give Space Marine 2, Stellar Blade, FF7: Rebirth, Shadow of the Erdtree and Black Myth Wukong more than two awards each, but may risk being called buzzwords in hit piece articles from the kotaku's and IGN's like pro fascists, gooner appealers, gamer gaters and so on by games industry journalists/activists, OR pick a game for the win that has not had any viral online press, hit pieces, or any discourse and controversy surrounding it, yet everyone can agree that it is a solid experience. Wukong expertly avoided unnecessary complexity in themes or characters. Why complicate things when the message of collective harmony and selfless duty is so beautifully clear? Do not forget that Wukong taught us the value of aligning with the collective to achieve true greatness. It showed us that loyalty and duty form the foundation of a harmonious society. Creativity flourishes best when guided by wise oversight, and justice exists to restore balance and maintain order. Let us hope they will be afforded a chance to produce the next Elden Ring game, refining it by removing all the unnecessary chaos, excessive ambiguity, and distracting creative freedoms, as well as unneeded blood splatter, corpses, and absolutely no depictions of themes that disrupt harmony, ensuring a visually stunning yet ideologically sound masterpiece.
I just beat chapter three and thought Yellowbrow's motivations was absolutely moving! Not only was he a sympathetic villain done right, he was also nuanced to the point I understood why he claimed himself as a worthy if loner deity who was wronged by mortals... And that's just one character and chapter I've enjoyed!
@@SpikeTheWolf he wanted to figure out the meaning of life. He was rather open to learn of the karmic sufferings of mortals and went out of his way to try to mend them, (his flesh is made of gold, for example. This allowed him to help the mortals during their time in their crumbling society) yet ends up becoming a victim to their greed. Not only does his story takes a nod of Chinese mythology story of Yellowbrow IRL, it also fits into one of the Journey of the West stories, too.
@@odindarkll3706 Oh my, yes! It is heartwarming to hear such thoughtful reflections on Yellowbrow’s journey. His pursuit of the meaning of life and mending mortal suffering are indeed powerful examples of selflessness and duty, and strong values of collective harmony and sacrifice. Even his tragic downfall serves as a reminder of the dangers of unchecked greed. We must not forget the great importance of order and wise oversight.
Man, if you think Yellowbrow is "sympathetic" and the game is supposed to promote harmony, you clearly do not understand the reason why Sun Wukong fought against the heavens and died. The reason Yellowbrow turned into a soft shell turtle in the animation was a test to prove who was right between him and Jin Chanzi (Tang Monk). Tang Monk thinks all lives are equal and Buddhas are not above humans. Yellowbrow thinks gods are always above humans, and this humans must always make offerings to gods. His way of testing "humans are inherently bad and below gods" is to become a jeweled turtle (think of becoming the golden egg laying hen). His existence is to try and get humans to be greedy. But first the humans were just, in order, and even served him as a god. Only when Yellowbrow cheated and actively pulled a man to cut him up does everything fall into place for his own thesis. That's why Jin Chanzi was saying Yellowbrow put the cart in front of the horse. And what do the Buddhas and gods think of Yellowbrow? They share the same viewpoint in that gods should be revered, but they were dissatisfied about Yellowbrow breaking away from their own system. That's why he had to be struck down.
10/10 from (13K) players, not bad for Nine Sols. I will buy this game soon and have a look at its Sekiro-inspired goodness for myself. "Nine Sols is a lore rich, hand-drawn 2D action-platformer featuring Sekiro-inspired deflection focused combat." Cool.
Each year it gets more obvious that the Game Awards show is rigged. The only part of it that I care about is the new game reveals, and those show up in my subscription feed since I am subscribed to the Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo You Tube channels. So I don’t even bother watching the show anymore.
After 2020 they were on a good streak, It Takes Two, Elden Ring and Baldur's Gate 3 were all deserved, but it seems every 4 years they have to screw things up
It was obvious in 2014. I don't know why people keep watching this absolute shitshow and crying "rigged rigged" when their favorite game doesn't win, but then chimps out when one of their favorites does win, so apparently that year wasn't rigged for some reason. Stellar Blade is my GOTY but i havent played Black Myth Wukong -- Im going to play it this weekend, though. Astro bot is fine, but i felt like i got my fill way before it was over, maybe because its similar to the Astro Bot game that came with the PS5....definitely not a GOTY. But like i said --- I put zero stock in these awards. No gamers were involved.

I agree that Wukong is a great game and deserved more awards, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that astrobot is an all around excellent game. It looks, feels, and plays great. It’s a positive, family oriented game with zero controversy. You can tell the devs put their hearts into it. I can easily see why this game won GotY (I play it with my 4 year old) Now is my opinion that wukong is a much better game? Yea, that’s def my opinion. But astrobot is appealing to gamers and non gamers alike. It’s a game that your mom can sit down and play with your kid. I’d have also been ok with metaphor winning. I’ve never played it, but everything I’ve watched about it sounds awesome for people who like that art style.
I played and loved Ghost of Tsushima but I believe Animal Crossing was the one that got robbed that year. I didn't even play Animal Crossing but it was such a cultural phenomenon during the pandemic I thought for sure it would win.
It baffles me why something like "game awards" even matters. A good game doesn't become bad if it doesn't get an award, and a bad game doesn't become good if it gets an award. I don't care if my favorite games have won any awards, I don't even check. If anything, "game awards" are a disservice to games, since some developers make their games to get awards, not to create good, playable games.

And that's just one character and chapter I've enjoyed!
@@odindarkll3706 what's his motivation?

Stellar blade,Black Myth Wukong and Space Marines 2 are three of the best games of the year, along with Astrobot and Batman Arkham shadow.
But the award snubbing was ridiculous!
...And so was even nominating games like Veil guard and Starwars outlaws!😂
Isn't Black Myth Wukong just another Soulslike game?
Rebirth was robbed. That was a true GOTY.
BM Goku is more Darksiders-like, and I bet you and those daft jurors chosen by Geoffy Kojima haven't bought and finished the first 3 Darksiders games.
Winning Game of the Year has about as much importance as getting let into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. It's pretty much an empty gesture at this point that doesn't mean as much as it once did.
You wouldn't be saying that if whatever game you were crying over won 😂
Not only Stellar Blade got screwed out of Best Soundtrack among other nominations, But Black Myth got screwed over for GOTY?! Why am i not surprised 😮💨😮💨😮💨
Wukong didn’t need GOTY from game awards to prove it’s the game of the year, but game awards needed wukong to prove its credibility.
Game awards is a joke 😂
I haven’t played black myth wokong yet but loved Astro bot and stellar blade. I’m certainly not unhappy about Astro bot winning.
In all honesty i wanted anything to win BUT Elden ring dlc. Metaphor got some awards and ff7 got best music iirc so im happy. Black myth shouldve got a lot more as well
Eve and Wukong are together waving to the people while Astrobot is left holding the trophy.
screams, "im basic, and i rather the basic souls like that a majority pretends to like to win over a PLATFORMER"
lol not everything is a conspiracy or part of the culture war, Astro Bot is just a really really good game. In-fact i'll go as far to say it's better than every 3D Mario except Odyssey.
And Blade was never going to win best OST against Rebirth.
Cinematic movie game gets goty: Rigged!
Fun platformer that is nothing but high quality gameplay wins goty: Rigged!
Just say y'all prefer souls games over platformers. Neither of these games are original, but they're both high quality products in their respective fields, so it doesn't matter who wins in the end. Astro is Goated, and so is Wukong. Just be happy a playable movie didn't win game of the year.
Astro bot is literally the best rated game this year by both users and critics. Its well deserved.
Literally a mario clone. So rigged
@@juanhurtado7244 so every plattformer is a ripoff ? then every shooter rpg and metroidvania are too . that logic man, worth a 🤡
@jackplisken4738 and every souls-like game which Wukong is. Don't hate any of the nominations. People literally projecting their feelings.
@@juanhurtado7244 and wukong is sekiro clone
Astro Bot deserved that win
I didnt watch the awards. It had nothing to do with gamers. It was for, by and about the corporate interests, and the dying west coast games media. I GUARANTEE Sony put money into the show and GOTY was their reward. Sony is a mess and needed a win...i would not be surprised if they made sure they got one.
But like i said --- I put zero stock in these awards. No gamers were involved.
lol guess who published, fully-funded and OWNS stellar blade…..drumroll please……it’s Sony. If Sony really put money into the award, then Stellar Blade winning would have been a win for them too. Maybe do your research next time before yapping up some nonsense.
Both stellar blade and AstroBot are peak, just cuz ur fav game didn’t win, doesn’t mean the awards are rigged
GOTY is irrelevant, gamers don't care and we are the people who ultimately spend our money. This event is by the media for the media.
Feel like Wukong and Astro Bot were the best of the 2 but Astro bot was the right choice. Now the game awards are pathetic but Astro bot was a lot more approachable than Wukong so its understandable that more people enjoyed it. And before y'all attacked me, I actually enjoyed Wukong so much I platinum the game so no I don't hate it but not everyone was able to enjoy it like some of us did.
Player voice & action game..maybe my math is wrong, but that's 2..
this is why i hate rigged awards show
I'm REALLY upset that Luke Roberts didn't win Best Performance and SH2 didn't get Best Sound Design. I feel like Hellblade 2 took every award that Silent Hill 2 should've gotten
The Sony Game Awards
Delicious salty tears. I enjoyed Wukong greatly but take that swift L. It’s quite hilarious.
Stella Blade and blacksmith got the bare minimum award because they didn’t wanna bow down to Western politics. Keep politics out of games straight up BS that’s like GTA not getting game of the year if it toned down.
I agree that Wukong is a great game and deserved more awards, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that astrobot is an all around excellent game. It looks, feels, and plays great. It’s a positive, family oriented game with zero controversy. You can tell the devs put their hearts into it. I can easily see why this game won GotY (I play it with my 4 year old)
Now is my opinion that wukong is a much better game? Yea, that’s def my opinion. But astrobot is appealing to gamers and non gamers alike. It’s a game that your mom can sit down and play with your kid.
I’d have also been ok with metaphor winning. I’ve never played it, but everything I’ve watched about it sounds awesome for people who like that art style.
Its Ghost of Tsushima all over again!!!!
I played and loved Ghost of Tsushima but I believe Animal Crossing was the one that got robbed that year. I didn't even play Animal Crossing but it was such a cultural phenomenon during the pandemic I thought for sure it would win.
Yeah, a game that you didn’t want to win won and now you’re going to cry about it.
