      Fly Beep you must be below 30. It’s simply a generational thing. I’m 39 and I also think it’s weird that people actually BUY digital copies. If you lose internet or if the service dies, all that stuff purchased goes with it. My hard copies are always there- and can’t be altered or anything !

      Just use Windows/Android App.

    I prefer physical for a couple of reasons.. The main one is conductibility, but also the fact that some movies are either near-impossible to find on streaming services, and even when they are, they risk being pulled any given day. There are services to buy digital movies like Vudu, but those are usually right at or more expensive than you can get the Blu-Ray from a service like eBay. And often times the quality is actually better on the Blu-Ray, not to mention the special features that you can rarely get digitally. The good news is that collectors like us are keeping the hobby alive, so I see physical releases continuing into the near future, even if they slow down a bit. Heck, Vinyls are even becoming popular again.

    • @pHD77
      @pHD77 7 лет назад +4

      computerkid1416 Physical media are probably becoming the new laserdisc.
      -Prices for each title will go up to, but at least have more content.
      -Players will become more expensive.
      -Covers will become more than just your standard little casing. They'll be boxsets, designed with distinctive each time.
      And eventually production of physical media will cease to exist.

    While you have a valid point about waiting for physical media to load, depending on your streaming player, you've still got to go through three menus to get to Netflix (or whatever streaming service), wait for the Netflix icons to load, and then wait for it to load to start playing. And if the connection is slow, it's going to pause in the middle of the movie anyway. Barf.

    Streaming media feels far less personal and far more disposable to me.
    I’m of the opinion that if I spend money on a film (or music) I’m going to ensure I consume the media. With Netflix and Spotify, everything is more disposable.
    Not instantly into the album you’re listening to? Fine - you didn’t pay for it, only the monthly subscription. Find something else, you might enjoy it more.
    And that to me is the biggest issue with streaming media I personally have. There is no monetary outlay on the media people watch now apart from the subscription, so everything is far more disposable as opposed to the days when we went out and picked a single movie from Blockbusters on a Friday night, or when we went into the local HMV and brought an album.
    We knew we had invested time and money into our media consumption, so to dismiss the music and films we consumed then had more a financial repercussion. And because of that, it meant we were more invested instead of having a niggling feeling at the back of our head that we can click off and find something else immediately.

    In my opinion here's pros and cons on digital and physical.
    Pros on digital.
    You can get it right away instead of waiting for it to be shipped to you or picking it up in a store.
    Not worry about scratches or losing it.
    Cons on digital
    If your wifi is slow it will be buffering or just loading all the time.
    If your wifi is down you won't be able to watch it.
    Pros on physical media
    You could own it.
    You don't have to worry about internet problems or buffering.
    Cons on physical media
    You can scratch it by watching the movie or show many times.
    You can lose it.
    You can run out of storage on shelves.
    Your DVD/ Blu Ray player can mess up.

    physical media is not dying. Actually this era is the greatest era when it comes to physical media. You can purchase a film in 4k and get a digital copy, blu ray copy, and 4k copy. That's 3 versions of the same movie. That's insane. And it will pretty much last your entire life unless you lose the movies and lose access to whatever app you have the digital movie installed under. It has been 2 years since I started collecting movies and it feels like the 80s and 90s all over again. Collecting my favorite movies and watching them. It feels like i'm watching them for the first time. Cause now i'm noticing stuff in the movies I did not notice on vhs or dvd on a crt tv. Anyone who says physical media is dying don't know what their talking about. In the next couple of months The Running Man, Twin Peaks, Twins, Big Trouble in Little China, Back to the Future, and Beverly Hills Cop Trilogy will all be coming to blu ray or 4k steelbook. And I will be buying all of them. Maybe physical media is dying for new movies. Because 90 % of the films are mediocre and are not worth buying physical copies. How many superhero movies can a person possibly watch b4 getting burned out. Do u guys think 40 years from now. Their will be a large library of movies that would be worth going back to watch like how we do with the terminator, back to the future, die hard, the predator and etc. Movies in todays era do not hold their value.

    Nothing keep me away from experiencing my own little going to block buster experience when I go To my local library and then local gas station or grocery and buy popcorn and candy If I wanted to watch every show/movie I’m interested in. It would cost $50 a month, with hbo Hulu and Netflix,also I don’t watch tv enough to pay for all that.

    • @pow9606
      @pow9606 5 лет назад

      @Mike P You don't need to purchase a NAS to use Plex. Maybe useful if you want a low powered device switched on 24/7, 365 or you only have a ultra stylish computer. Just install PLEX on a desktop computer and use it as needed and the blu-ray's can be the backup copy.

    Very interesting video. I think downloads / streaming will become a standard in the future. The only thing that isn’t clear to me is: What service will it be? After VHS was over and out, it was replaced by dvd and later Blu ray. That’s easy. One standard supported by all brands. But what will the future of streaming / downloads look like? Will it be iTunes? Will it be Netflix? RUclips? Nobody can tell me wich direction it goes.
    I started collecting movies on iTunes, but it doesn’t work anymore on older hardware. I don’t watch enough movies to subscribe to a streaming service and have no idea what I have to choose after dvd.

    Awesome video. I started collecting dvds when they 1st started coming out and have about 1,000, then what ya know bluray was introduced! So I felt like I needed to replace my dvds with bluray. So now I have a crap load of both, duplicate copies of a bunch of them and guess what 4k dvds have been introduced! WTF! I'm done and now I just use VUDU. Been buying from them for a couple of years and it's pretty great. Also it's helping keep the peace with my wife who just loves shelves and shelves of movies all over the living room and spare rooms. Streaming is definitely the future but I will hang onto my physical movies and pass them down like my dad did with his VHS. Lol 😂

    I agree with you about the tedious nature of blu rays, and definitely agree the menus are often times stupid in that they spoil the movie by showing key scenes. Who thought that was a good idea? But I will always choose physical media and support it 100%. Digital may take over at some point in time but while physical media exists I will continue to support it.

    7:39 "You press play and the movie starts" Well i mean thats all Netflix offers you, press play and watch the movie and thats it, you also dont own shit, you just pay for the right to use that service.
    A nice bluray or dvd on the other hand makes watching a movie into something special, nice intros and menus, interviews, deleted scenes and bonus material of all kinds and i actually own it! I could resell it, or give it to a friend or someone in the family. Gotta say im gonna stick with buying physical mediums.

BR gives you everything you deserve and what you pay for - multiple languages, multiple subtitles, many extras, beautiful menu, beautiful cover + the possibitlity to borrow it or sell it to someone. As I wrote in my comment - I will never give up on it and will fight for it. BR FOREVER!!

    I agree that disc menus are problematic, especially on standard Bluray, but 4K alleviates some of those issues, and the increase in video and audio quality, as well as being able to have it as a collectors item are worth it

  • @bellowingsilence
    @bellowingsilence 3 года назад

    A big check for Blu-Ray in the pros column: adequate video quality with minimal compression. Especially once you have a 4K TV, there’s nothing nastier than your streamed 4K HDR movie suddenly becoming a 480p sub-DVD quality HDR movie, stretches across a 4K screen.
