  • Frustrated with getting counter attacked and not sure how to resolve the situation? Counter Time is a splendid example of punishing your opponent for executing a counter attack action.
Counter Time combines distance, timing, and reading to stop an opponent from effectively counter attacking you. Perfect for dealing with foilists who have a strong sense of timing and a preference for stop hits and displacement. Draw them in, let them do what they do, and shut them down.
Note: this video is not intended as a coaching lesson but as an outline for exploring the video content on your own, with fellow foilists, or with your coach. Interpretation, instruction, and articulation of actions may differ from coach to coach.

with respect, you really need to think about a remote microphone

Indeed. The new facility plays havoc with the sound and one of the camera mics began to fail. Already looking into it for a set of videos for epee. Sadly, no time to re-shoot what's already been filmed over the holiday for foil... Apologies for the echo and sound issues.

What happens if the fencer bends over? Its hard to hit them

A counter-attack is always meant to make the target more difficult to hit. However, one cannot fully bend over in fencing if their head does not remain upright as you are not permitted to expose the back of your head. A fencer who bends over while keeping their head upright may reduce their target area, but they expose their back as well as limit their own ability to move beyond that action.

Very helpful video no matter for beginners or superior.

Jeez man will you stop pointing blades at targets without masks on! That is dangerous. At least have your students wearing masks. I know you do it at the end but trips and misunderstandings can happen at any time.

@@osmfencing Yeah, speaking as a former coach, this makes me cringe also. I don't know how you run your club, but thrusting at someone who isn't masked is just a bad example to set for students, and would have been an extremely serious violation where I taught. If you're going to demonstrate without masks, (though I don't really see why you need to) please do it out of distance.

Thank you for the feedback, it is appreciated. It has been discussed and the coaches agree. Despite choreographed activities, future videos will likely not include any examples within proximity where masks are not in use. Thanks again for your concern.
