Michael Hundt 1611 - Rapier play Fig. 94

- In this exercise by Michael Hundt from 1611, it becomes clear that sometimes you have to admit to taking your legs in your hands. Even then, it was obviously clear to the masters when they were outmatched. Besides, this piece is real and at the same time a great fun... please do not take it too seriously ;)

I am so glad you included the slow motion bit. Without that it would have been very difficult to see all the fine details of this technique
Exactly, the footwork especially... xD
@ haha exactly what I was about to type
It's always nice to see historical techniques that are 100% useful in the modern day.
I once worked with a man who was a martial artist and practiced knife fighting for many years. I asked him one day what he would do if a man pulled a knife on him. He said " point at something behind him and then sprint away ".
@@shano6613 lool
@@shano6613 why gamble with a knife fight you have a high chance of winning but an equally high chance of getting injured, when you can take the 100% safe option and lose nothing?
An extremely nuanced and complex maneuver, it must've took many years to master.
Absolutely...dude the footwork...i was for years in a struggle if i should use passing steps or fencing steps xD
I think that Fig.94 is a primary skill to master due to its potentially universal application. Footwork really plays a part here.
A swordsman lives or dies by his feet.

Ah yes, the rapier version of pocket sand
sh-sha
pocket sand is 100% historicaly accurate. At least according to Domingo Luis Godinho's treatise :D
@@simonhotinceanu2000 I thought he prefers a sack full of rocks, or was that another fencing master?
@@dbKneecapped the sack full of stones is in the Michael Hundt treatise, if i remember correctly, plus things like a variant of the old 'look out behind you!' trick. Both Hundt an Godinho have some fun advice to shift odds in your favor, thought.
@@simonhotinceanu2000 Rusty Shackleford's treatise also covers it in great detail.
As Joachim Meyer once said:
"No sword can stop a 9mm to te chest"
HAHAHAHAHA BROOO!!!
🤣😂🤣😂
Wow, I've never thought of that before. So clever.
No 9mm can stop a Sherman tank
@@IMP-vi6je but a .45 ACP can stop a Tiger. I saw it in a documentary called "Saving Private Ryan". ;)
This channel deserves way more views. Keep up the great videos.
Beautiful! And it's not even April 1st.
It does make sense though, if 5 people decide to get into a fight with you, your best option probably IS removing yourself from that fight.
Finally, after a day of searching online for something I can practice at home with a broom, I found the most magical and interesting skill to master. Thank you for the slow motion. I'll have to… uh… analyze a bit.
amazing footwork, great timing, wonderful technique
That's perfect tactical movement!
Huzzah, the hero lives to quarrel and frolic another day!
So King Arthur's knights in Monty Python and the Holy Grail were right all along!
When I see those trousers, all I can think of is that a devolution in fashion has taken place.
That gallant skip has convinced me.
Danke! It's the most helpful demonstration I have ever watched.
👍👍👍Perfect. That's easy to learn. I guess I'll start to learn rapier fencing. 😉
Wearing the right kind of trousers is crucial to this technique.
I wasn't expecting to see this tactic. Lol!👍😂
I am quite pleased with this 😄
1:06 I love how genuinely confused the guy in the back looks😂
Excellent form.
amazing distance management and footwork
Cant wait for your exercise on the Fig.100.
I loved this
It's amazing to see such situations. Even the instructors back then knew that sometimes you just had to fold them
this is basically the most effective defense against a knife attack too -- just run away bro
Depends on how close you are, and how fast they are.
@Dark Energy that is still *very* risky, even self defense instructors advise against fighting a person wielding a blade while unarmed.
Best thing to is run away while throwing trash at them.
@@mattmark94 I never said to fight them, i just meant you could still easily be killed
nice and useful videos
Wunderschön!
Really nice techniques))
The Meyer pants even look great when performing this high speed technique =)
splendid!!!!
Great technique!
ah yes, this play does play into the fact that in real life score is based on damage taken, rather than damage given.
Brilliant
Perfection
Indeed, the loss of a weapon is preferable to the loss of one's life.
"the best tactical is running away" - Sun Wu
One will die to five if one is determined, one will survive five if one is fearful.
Well played
That and the properly ending the opponent by throwing your pommel are my fav
This caught me off guard 🤣
Björn, will you do any videos on Meyer's rapier?
Of course, but i have so many other projects running atm...
@ I love the content you are sharing with us all. I don't have an hema club near by, let alone a Meyer one, so your content is much appreciated. 🙌
"Cobb's Traverse" appears to be an internationally acknowledged technique!
the secret ancient technique passed down through the dynasty for 1000 years
Zu gut. :)
Haha, very inteligent and funny.
三十六計,走為上計。
If all else fails, retreat!
I'll try running, that's a good trick!
Ah yes, the "F*ck this s*t I'm out" tactic
Be brave, and RUN
bravo
I really thought you would back with the Alpha and Omega Schlachtschwert 😂
Would be interesting to see, what to do, if the 4 assailants apply the same technique!
I love, how in the historic depiction, the rapier implaes one of the ruffians foreheads :D
THE SECRET TECHNIQUE
Proper form/footwork is underrated^_^
"If it sucks, hit the bricks"
Usain Bolt fighting style. :D
Hahaha that greate! I can learn Fig. 94!
He who runs away lives to run another day.
Mr Miyagi said it in Karate kid 2, best defense, not being there

"Hoooooolllt iiiihhhn eeeeuuuch!!!"
😂 Too funny!
Haha, very good.
if you had thrown the pommel you would have defeated them all
everything happened so fast, I didn’t even really understand it on slow motion
No worries...some ppl need years to understand that complicated piece of technique...and only true masters can execute it well :P
He just ran home to get his zweihander
TLDR: Yeet it, and beat it.
Keep circling around with your back to the wall to keep your enemies stacked can work for multiples but 4-1 means you get swamped.
Eine gute Technik zur Anwendung in der heutigen Zeit. Wenn du in einen bewaffneten Kampf gerätst: Ablenken und die Beine in die Hand nehmen
Wise decision
The problem with that technique is that if they run faster than you, now you dont have a rapier🤔
Lol yeah, it's the same in all martial arts videos. Everyone thinks they're Usain Bolt.
That's exactly why you should throw it. It's a distraction and swords are expensive so they might just be satisfied with that and leave you alone. Regardless you get a headstart and it's much easier to run away than to chase someone. After the runner chooses the directory and can trick the chaser. There's almost 0 chance you fight 5 people with an equally long weapon, if you could carry a spear or an halberd then yeah, by all means try your luck, however, those are usually not civilian weapons and can not be carried freely.
where do you get the pants? I want a pair for use
Ah yes the art of the feline. An old but not forgotten technique that require fast reflexes and the spine of a cat. Fear is a mayor component it teaches one to think twice before engaging in battle and choosing to flee instead of fight.
So... i Kinda fucked up
I may have tried this drill... Is there any instruction on to reattach my friends' heads?
please Their bodies are starting to bloat
**MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA** GENIAL!!!!!
Advanced evasive maneuvers
I have a serious question - is throwing your sword really the best strategy, and is it what Bjorn would do? Does the sword slow you so much that it's worth discarding the only thing that would give an attacker hesitation to lunge at you? I'm thinking about how if I ran into a narrow alley or path where I could turn and fight, I might wish I had kept my weapon, especially if I am a faster or more fit runner than most of those chasing me.
True...but that is what the play showing us...maybe throwing a coin or your cape should also work xD
@ I like those better. :)
the technique of throwing the sword correctly would go down well.
one injured foe minus a sword plus the need to help injured comrade equals a perfect escape
🤠👍🏿
The Secret Joestar Technique!
I thought you threw the pommel there for a moment. But keep training and one day you'll get to that level
I think I finally found a fighting skill I can master by doing nothing
"A dropped knife has no handle," nor does a flying sword! This might be your best bet for delaying your group of foes
Hello brother.I would be happy if u review, teach and share ur opinions about arms from middle east (Arabic,Ottoman,Persian). If its possible and beneficial, please consider it.
I could take them and swirl around...in consideration with my overall knowledge...but on the otherside, im not really a specialist here...
I would be interested, no question :)
@ just swinging and telling ur own opinions would be enough to make me and many others happy
I expectet really awasome shit... i was wright XD
if you can't be hit you can't be hit and if you run fast enough you can't be hit
Hahaha! Like 👍🏻
