Hi everyone! Welcome to the Midweek Ramble! Please feel free to leave your own suggestions here in the comments section about great patterns for single skeins of fingering-weight yarn. I'm going to turn this into a series for sure so keep posted for that! Thank you to all of you who submit ideas over at www.woolneedleshands.com/tipline ! Also, just a note regarding the BRIGHT SUN!!! Ugh! Ok, I love the sun, but it was all over the place today so this is the best I could do. One minute it's moody next it's BRIGHT AF. We shall survive. 😉 Find all of the patterns mentioned in my Ravelry Favorites bundle here: www.ravelry.com/bundles/one-skein-patterns-fingering Shop MagnerCo on Etsy: shrsl.com/3xvqg The MagnerCo Itty Bitty Bag: shrsl.com/3xvqf My hat: The Baggy Hat by PetiteKnit www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/baggy-hat-3 My Sweatshirt: www.woolneedleshandsmerch.com/listing/solovely #knittingpodcasts #woolneedleshandspodcast #knitting
I’m suffering from severe knitting burn out. I’ve been knitting for 25+ years and I knitted a ridiculous amount during Covid. Thanks for the one skein patters Ii adore summer but live in chilly upstate NY so Joji Locatelli’s pattern is a win!
I love the idea of sharing pattern ideas. Would love to see another video like this for heavier weights such as DK and worsted. I shy away from fingering yarns, especially for gift knits because of the time factor. So would be super excited to see your list of ideas for beautiful skeins of DK and worsted.
Thankyou so much for mentioning Ravit! I was really struggling with my other Ravelry app, and this one is waaaaaaay easier to use! Love your suggestions, have to admit, I pretty much only think of socks to use up a single skein.
This is perfect. I was just looking for 1 skein patterns! I'm a new knitter and I got super excited to make a cardigan to then realize I definitely did not have enough yarn AND the yarn I chose was like $40 bucks a skein. 🫠 We live and we learn. I love your content and it is so nice to watch while knitting before I clock into work. ✌🏾
Hi Taylor. I loved this episode because I have many single skeins of fingering weight. Thanks for talking more slowly. You present interesting topics and I don't want to miss a word of what you share with us.
I’m so glad that you feel that way. I try to share patterns that are off, or at least slightly off, the general radar. Thank you for watching Rachel! ❤️
I bought some silk, camel, merino yarn a few years ago, I think I will knit a "soft as a cloud" cowl. Knitting hats for charity boxes just now to use up not so precious yarn. Thankyou for all your choices .
I have made two Lone Skein Shawls and love them! I had enough yarn to knit up to the picot edge. I used a contrast remnant yarn for that edge and didn’t do the tassels. Love them both. A great, pretty, lightweight accessory in variegated super wash yarn.
I love these ideas! What a beautiful selection of patterns. I feel the same about shawls as well, and although I have knitted and crocheted a few, I almost never wear them. Here in NY the weather often goes straight from summer to winter and I find a shawl not practical or comfortable under a coat. Thanks for sharing, love your channel! ~Mimi
I really enjoyed your video. The speed helped me stay interested. You chose gorgeous projects, I enjoyed the personal anecdotes, notes, and adaptations. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for the ideas for my year of stash busting! I love the necktie idea but am definitely going to jazz it up to wear with my work shirts (stripes, floral, embroidered, bees, butterflies, seasonal....so many choices!!!). And I like shawls but a bandana or a neck scarf sounds great. Oooo a Pink Ladies neck scarf as the series is coming out. I need to go home and cast on all the things now!!!
Been a rough couple of days but you seemed to know JUST the video I needed! Especially with all the single skeins of sock yarn I have in my stash. Your content is true comfort. Thank you Tayler.
I have been following you for a while now and along with learning from what you share I find you just delightful! On a completely different topic my daughter is on a girls get away this week with friends and yesterday she was in Henderson, which is a long way from Rhode Island! They rented a car there and went to check out the Mojave, Joshua Trees and the Hoover Dam. Today they are trying their luck at the Casinos. It created a little connection in my head. For now I am going to make up a few of your single skein suggestions. Peace
Thank you so much for this Kate. It means a lot. And I hope your daughter is enjoying her trip. We’re having some very interesting weather here so enjoying some time in the casinos is probably the best way to spend the time. I hope luck is a lady for her! 😉❤️
Thank you Taylor for all the super suggestions for a one skein project. I love a quick project for a quick satisfaction boost, plus I like to make gifts.
Hi Tayler, thanks for another great podcast. I have many single skeins of fingering yarn in my stash and although I am a prolific sock knitter sometimes it’s fun to use the yarn for something else. I especially like the coasters - have never knitted any but might give these a try. And I like your brisk and professional delivery - no chitchat just straight to what you want to say. Please keep your format as is.
Thanks for the content! I'm enjoying your channel!! My "go-to" patterns for busting single skeins are Musselbrugh (which I know you've knit before) and Parkview Hat by Tracie Millar. This one uses a fingering and a mohair held double, but I find that I have lots of leftover mohair in my stash, too! Although Parkview doesn't technically bust that single skein, I love the results. You could always hold the fingering double!
OMG, I probably was not the only one but I did comment in the tipline on your website! I’m so glad because I really need some ideas to use those single skeins! 😍
Fabulous video. You enunciate extremely well. I'm hard of hearing so I often lip read. I'm currently knitting after doing crochet and really enjoying it.
Thank you for this! When I first started knitting I spent a lot of money on beautiful fingering weight yarns that , now that I understand my sock yarn preferences, will need to used other ways. I am glad I don’t have to re-home ALL that yarn
I’ve knit you’re fire pit mitts several times using fingering held double. It was a great single skein project and still had some left when I did the long version and they turned out perfectly!
#poorchoiceofwords made me chuckle, its the best term 😂 my cousin in Canada is due in April and i need to get a wiggle in with a baby knit, plus sending international (I’m in the UK) is a pain right now. Maybe I should knit something for 6-12 months old.
Happy Saturday, Tayler! Love these ideas. I have a lot of single skeins. I love a funky colorway and bought an Advent calendar from Five Borough Fiber Co two Christmases ago.
I really loved this one! There are so many good ideas and I might just pull out my single skeins today and see what they are best suited for. Thanks so much for rounding these up and sharing them. 😊
This was great, thank you for taking the time to compile this list. I will definitely be taking a look at the headband as I need something to keep my hair out of the way while working in the garden when the weather warms up and a beanie is too much! Who am I kidding I'll be checking them all out! (except the romper 😁)
I just love your pattern bundles! I have the Lone Skein in my queue but am currently working on Antarktis - another one-skein shawl. I also just purchased a bitty Magnet bag. Can't wait to try it out. Thanks for a great video.
love your videos like this ☺️💖 I made the pickle romper out of Egyptian cotton before and it was soOOO cute and easy! I was very much a beginner when I knit it.
LOVE one skein projects, as I am that knitter who falls in love with yarn but doesn't want to spend $100 for a sweater quantity. I have knit the Joji Locatelli shawl and did have to use a little bit of a second skein for the border because I ran out. However, the skein I started with was only 400 yards, and I think I tend to knit a bit on the looser side. I personally LOVE the speed at which you talk and am bored and put to sleep by some podcasters who speak p a I n f u l l y slow. But you can never please every single person. ⚘️
Hi! I'm a relatively new follower. My name is Beth, and I live in Iowa, United States. I LOVE this type of video, so thank you for doing it. I'm looking forward to more. :)
Agree with a lot of your suggestions. I've knit the Sea Whisper cowl twice--I loved mine so much that I made one for my daughter. The wider at the bottom design lays so nicely! I do want to hear your thoughts if you make Joji's Lone Skein shawl. I knit a lot if smallish shawls, but I frogged this one after knitting about half of it.
This is very nice! Perhaps one day you could do a worsted version of this as a intermediate beginner I have a lot of worsted but not a lot of fingering

Taylor. You. Are such great videos, and more importantly sense. Thanks!!
I really enjoyed my time here, and I'll be back!!!
Hi Taylor. I loved this episode because I have many single skeins of fingering weight. Thanks for talking more slowly. You present interesting topics and I don't want to miss a word of what you share with us.
So happy to catch up on all your videos now that I’m back home. Loved these patterns, thanks for sharing!!

Perfect. After we spent three years stationed in Germany, I have SO MUCH sick yarn.
I really enjoyed your video. The speed helped me stay interested. You chose gorgeous projects, I enjoyed the personal anecdotes, notes, and adaptations. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for watching Candace. I’m glad you enjoyed it! ❤️
I am just now seeing this episode.
I absolutely love ❤️ the Hibiscus coasters!
I love my Magnerco bags I have like 4 of them I got them like 2 years ago and love them very affordable and amazing quality
Another fantastic collection. Thank you Taylor. Pretty much all of those are going into my favourites list. ❤😊
Thank you for the ideas for my year of stash busting! Really great and I love that you talk fast. Very well spoken and interesting to watch and listen. 😀

Thank you for watching Anna. I’m glad that this video was a bit of an uplift for you after a tough week. ❤️

I love how your necklace here invokes Chiagoo needles.
Thanks for all the research - great patterns.
love your voice and style!
Thank you so much! ❤
Thank you for telling me about Ravit! I downloaded it and am trying it out;-)
Thanks so much. This is another year of trying to knit from my stash so I appreciate the ideas for those special skeins that would make great gifts.
thanks! Lots of great pattern ideas and boy do I have plenty of one skein sock yarns!!
Thank you so very much for all of these awesome 1 skein wonder ideas!!!🤗💖
Great pattern ideas! Thank you so much. ❤

I made the Pickles baby romper and it turned out so nice

Great podcast. Lots of good information.
Thank you for this! When I first started knitting I spent a lot of money on beautiful fingering weight yarns that , now that I understand my sock yarn preferences, will need to used other ways. I am glad I don’t have to re-home ALL that yarn
Super fun! Love these great ideas!
Some lovely ideas here - thank you Tayler! I am in love with that superb cowl and the lace scarf is also calling out to me.
Very helpful, thanks!
I've made the "Soft as a cloud" cowl in a cashmere yarn and it came out so amazing! So easy and fast.
Really great episode!! ❤❤
So many great options! Thank you for your wonderful content!
Great video! I made the Lone Skein shawl and love that it’s light and can be worn more like a scarf than a big shawl.
Yay I just added 3 patterns in my Ravelry library. Time to start gift knitting for Christmas. Thanks!
Great ideas! Hmm, saw a few shawl patterns there. I love the headband.
I’ve knit you’re fire pit mitts several times using fingering held double. It was a great single skein project and still had some left when I did the long version and they turned out perfectly!
Thank you for sharing that Charlene! I appreciate the suggestion and I would love to see a pretty pair of marled Fire Pit Mitts!
Appreciate your ideas.
Nice! Another good service video. Keep ‘em coming.
Do you have or can you make a video speaking of the best yarn for the warmer climate, brands please? Love your videos
So many great ideas here, Tayler! Thanks for taking the time to put this together. My queue just grew. 😉👍
The impulse buy shawl by Barbara Benson is a great one skein variegated color shawl pattern
Great episode. I loved the vast variety of projects.
Thank you Deepti!
The Way Out West Bandana Cowl is a great single skein - fingering weight yarn pattern.
It’s one of my most popular designs 😁
It’s so helpful that you set up the bundle. Thanks for the rabbit holes 😉
Brilliant!!!
Great video, thanks.
#poorchoiceofwords made me chuckle, its the best term 😂 my cousin in Canada is due in April and i need to get a wiggle in with a baby knit, plus sending international (I’m in the UK) is a pain right now. Maybe I should knit something for 6-12 months old.
Great list! Thank you! I made a “Soft as a Cloud” cowl from 1skein of precious Myak Tibetan Cloud and my mother loves it 💚
great patterns!!
Thank you so much, I needed this video! 💕
My pleasure, Leoney! Thank you for watching. ❤️
Agree 100% re Kate Atherley and socks 🙌 Highly recommend her basic ribbed socks pattern which is free on ravelry.
Could you take a look at the tie pattern and tell what to do after row 4? Repeat rows 3 and 4 maybe? I could use some advice. Thanks!!
Loved these ! Already purchased 3 😂
Happy Saturday, Tayler! Love these ideas. I have a lot of single skeins. I love a funky colorway and bought an Advent calendar from Five Borough Fiber Co two Christmases ago.
Happy Saturday to you Diane! I’m glad these ideas were good ones. I too love a funky colorway and these patterns are good for that. ❤️❤️
Great podcast thank you ☕️🧶☺️
Love these ideas! Thank you for curating these!
I really loved this one! There are so many good ideas and I might just pull out my single skeins today and see what they are best suited for. Thanks so much for rounding these up and sharing them. 😊
I love your picks today, so many great projects! Thank you, Tayler! 🌻
My pleasure Catherine! ❤️
This was great, thank you for taking the time to compile this list. I will definitely be taking a look at the headband as I need something to keep my hair out of the way while working in the garden when the weather warms up and a beanie is too much! Who am I kidding I'll be checking them all out! (except the romper 😁)
Great ideas Tayler. My fave 1 skein is the Paris in Berlin cowl from Joji locatelli.
I just love your pattern bundles! I have the Lone Skein in my queue but am currently working on Antarktis - another one-skein shawl. I also just purchased a bitty Magnet bag. Can't wait to try it out. Thanks for a great video.
LOL - meant Magner bag of course.
Thanks Taylor! Love all your videos, so helpful. 😊
I am determined to get work through my single skeins this year, so these were great ideas! Now to decide which one to do first!
love your videos like this ☺️💖 I made the pickle romper out of Egyptian cotton before and it was soOOO cute and easy! I was very much a beginner when I knit it.
Good job! I love small projects!
LOVE one skein projects, as I am that knitter who falls in love with yarn but doesn't want to spend $100 for a sweater quantity. Hi! I'm a relatively new follower. My name is Beth, and I live in Iowa, United States. I LOVE this type of video, so thank you for doing it. I'm looking forward to more. :)
Loved your suggestions! One of my favourite one skein patterns is Linus by Annett Cordes, a free pattern on Ravelry.
What a cute romper.
Right?! I’m totally knitting one for my friend’s baby. It can’t be helped. ❤️
Oooo I'd love to know why you frogged the Lone Skein as it's one I'm really eye-balling right now. 🤔
OMG- you mentioned the Magner bags based in Athens, GA and I live in Georgia as well! Fiber arts people can be hard to come by out here
Love it thank you Tayler x
Wonderful, inspiring podcast, not that I have several million skeins of fingering weight. 😆
Nice episode, Tayler.
Love your pattern bundles! ❤
living for the athens ga shoutout!! i’m an athens local myself, go dawgs!!
Yeah!! Bulldogs in the house!
Great suggestions!!
Thank you!!
Omg I would love a worsted version of this
This is very nice! Perhaps one day you could do a worsted version of this as a intermediate beginner I have a lot of worsted but not a lot of fingering
Absolutely! Worsted is next!
O these are great recommendations.
I just got a shipment of random silk yarns that are bright colors, so I have a couple of ideas on what to do with them now! Thanks!
Awesomeness 👌 ty
