Great video. Thanks for posting. We have the same beetle, same issue, and I just knew this would be a pain to complete. You made it look too easy!

Glad it was helpful! It's not too bad of a job, worse part is trying not to spill fuel everywhere lol

@@ChronCrew I know that's right! Fortunately it evaporates quickly. I have to say an inline electric fuel pump like on the '97 Ford Ranger I used to have is easier. Germans do thing differently. However VWs method allowed me to suck particulate crud from the bottom of they 2012 VW Beetles fuel tank, so I guess its not all bad.

Thanks, My Sons 2001 VW beetle will just die randomly on the Highway, feels like its out of gas then acouple seconds later just starts running again. So I'm thinking it's the fuel pump or fuel filter. Looks like it's a pretty simple to replace, thanks for the video, very helpful.

Great vid. I know this was more than four years ago, but can you post where you got that lock ring remover tool? Have not been able to find one like it. Had to use screwdriver/hammer method.
Thanks for a very good instructional video! I broke 1 tab on the plastic cover, but still holds tight.

I got the tool from vw special tools catalog, however they are available on amazon and eBay as well. I've used the hammer and screw driver method more than a few times lol.

Do you happen to have the part number for this fuel pump, I seem to have the same one with that metal ring

Is it normal for my cabin to smell like gas after this has been flushed? Got it back from the dealership two days ago and it still reeks of gas. Have been driving with the windows down.

If they changed the fuel pump its possible they could have spilled some fuel inside the vehicle causing the smell, however no i would not consider that normal as it can be prevented and shouldnt happen. There is also a possibility they may have caused a leak while doing repairs, which could be dangerous. I would have it checked if the smell has continued more than 24hrs
