Recently my hardcore gaming friends and I purchased this chair. By fair the best advantage of the chair is that it doesn’t force you to sit up straight. It just feels so natural. Us gaming nerds put in a lot hours on the chair and we can confirm dollar for dollar this is the best chair for gaming.
I used to sit in a Haworth Soji chair before Covid and it was super comfortable. I would sometimes sit for multiple hours at a time and didn't even realize it because how supportive it was! Haworth chairs are the best! I would like to order a Fern for my home office. Thanks, Marshall, for the awesome review!
I love this review. My team and I chose these for one of our corporate offices we built out after Covid. Then decided to have them as our standard for our next office build out as well. Based on employee feedback. The employees love them, I love them and I'm very happy with the purchase, customer service and warranty.

Great video man! I just ordered one myself for 1344 CAD, which in my opinion was a steal of a deal, I could not say no! It was between the gesture, embody or this, I am glad I got the fern.
What a fantastic review! I watched it after walking back from testing the chair live at a local dealer. It was like you described my conversation with the salesperson! This chair is amazing and I’ll be ordering one later today.
For anyone interested in this chair, I have one right now and I’d say it’s good for those who like to lean all the way back. But for people who sit up or forward, the back support is very mediocre and not reflecting the price of it. It’s not like an aeron that holds you up. Also, get the digital knit for comfort. The mesh option is not comfortable whatsoever if you want a more cushioned feel. For those who need it for lumbar support, do not get this chair at all. It has some of the least effective lumbar support I’ve seen out of a chair in this price range. The overall back support is very poor for sitting up or slightly leaning forward. But it’s fantastic for those who like to lean back a bit. Personally, I like to be up or slightly forward (that’s just how I feel engaged in whatever I’m doing). So it’s been pretty bad for me (albeit looking better than any other chair by far). But also if you don’t have very bad back pain, this is still a good chair just due to the price and aesthetic.

Another employee of Haworth here, but there is also a "knit" version, which allows for logos and the like to be customized onto the chairs. A little known secret is that this chair is also a certified "gaming chair" and it was a product I purchased for personal use within the first few months of working at the company, highly recommend.
I have the digital knit... is it that version? Does Haworth Customize those with logos? I didn't even know gaming chairs could be certified, that's dope! My son uses it as a gaming chair from time to time.
You should be glad you got it when you did! It's up to almost $1,500 on their website as of yesterday after their "sale" ends. Almost twice as much as when you initially made the purchase.
The lumbar support, or by Haworth's term "push pillow", is meant to make the back better conform to your curve. If you find this chair making your shoulder or upper back fatiguing, adjust the lumbar pillow until your upper back feel relaxed.

@@themarshallfox It's dope man! That recline function! Smooth and so comfortable. I was going back and forth about getting a headrest but the back is high enough without it and I didn't want the fixed headrest to get in the way of the back flexibility. Best chair out there for me.
So in argument for the Aeron is how it has a really amazing forward tilt function where the entire seat including backrest follows you forward. This seems minor but if you're leaning in a lot to do art or work, whatever, it really does make a big different to your general back support.
I gotcha. The Fern has a forward tilt option as well but when I tried it at the dealer, I didn’t care for it, personally. The Aeron is probably amazing but it’s just ugly to me. It would be out of place in my office. The Fern strikes the perfect balance between form and function imo. Gotta love options!
@@themarshallfox the forward tilt on the fern only brings the butt forward whereas the aeron brings the entire chair towards you, so you can lean in and still have all the support - its a minor but significant difference.
@@themarshallfox yeah, the fern looks amazing don’t get me wrong but I tried the aeron yesterday in store and that feature was the selling point for me, bought one today and getting rid of my neuechair! In terms of comfort and looks the fern is more customizable and pleasing.
Completely agree, the forward tilt on the Fern is a gimmicky feature and it would honestly do better without it, like the Steelcase chairs. Only Herman Miller seem to know how to implement a solid forward tilt feature that actually has practical use. Their recline mechanism is pretty much unparalleled and a big reason why their chairs are so damn good to rock in.

Haworth chairs have seriously good ergonomics. I'd never heard of them until a former employer bought their Zody model for everyone in the office and it was so comfortable that I got rid of the Herman Miller Aeron I had in my home office and found a Zody to replace it. Not as sexy as your chair, but with many of the same features and I even found one on craigslist for like $100!
funny, im trying to replace my aeron. its good for my back but the seat feels too firm for my comfort. doesnt let you relax. helps to have a footrest so its easy to slightly lean back. i'll keep it when my back feels out of whack, but looking for a cushiony padded chair now.
Love the vid! Was there a reason you decided to go no headrest? Does that neck pillow you had in the vid do a pretty good job of compensating for the lack of headrest while reclined?
While it's definitely an interesting chair from Haworth, it's not quite in the same league as the top offerings from Herman Miller and Steelcase. Also, it's a shame there are no authorised dealers in the UK, meaning that there's no way to try before you buy. The warranty is also quite disappointing, since you're only covered for 3 years on the fabric.
I haven’t tried HM or Steelcase but I do want the Eames chair when we move to our new home, but we’ll see. Whatever league the Fern is in, I’m fine with. I hope you find the one you’re looking for. Thanks for watching.
@@themarshallfox I'm not implying that the Fern is a 3rd rate chair, I just think that Haworth is lacking in a few places. However, that's not to say that the chair isn't a great option, I'm sure it's better than the majority of office chairs on the market. The Embody has actually been discontinued in the UK, so I'm really surprised that Haworth hasn't seized the opportunity.

I think they’re still trying to figure the WFH space out. I’ve had my Fern for almost 2 years now and it still looks and feels like the day I bought it so I’m glad I took the chance.
@@themarshallfox There's apparently a digital knit configuration which has got quite a lot of high praise from expert reviewers, more so than the Steelcase Gesture and Leap v2. Unfortunately, once again it's only available to North American customers. 😕

I mean, the video is great! And I'm sure the chair is as well, but the cheapest configuration that I made was $1900+. That's just too expensive for me. I looked at all the other models as well, and none of them were any cheaper. You might as well just buy HM if you just have money burning a hole in your pocket.

Check out the Duo Rest Alpha, I really like that chair as well. It’s not quite as sexy as the Fern, but it’s really comfy… and unique. The arm rests don’t slide laterally though, that’s the only real flaw in my opinion.

Hey Marshall, I saw some reviews online saying the digital knit chairs have a rough texture in the seat that is uncomfortable when sitting in it with shorts. Have you experienced anything like that? I'm debating on which Fern to go with.
The digital knit fabric is very rough, I imagine that's because they want it to be durable. If you're worried about the texture, I'd go with a different seating fabric. I love my fern, i'm 6'8". My only complaint is the seat gap in the seat pan, but everything else is 10/10. Back support, adjustability, etc.
It's definitely not better than Herman Miller or Steelcase chairs, because Haworth doesn't offer anything ground breaking over its competitors. I'd put Herman Miller and Steelcase on roughly the same level, Haworth is one step below them.
@@StardustLegacyFighter I strongly disagree. I’m not a fan of the aeron, the only chair that feels on par with the fern is the embody. It feels a little better on the back, the way it hugs you, but you do give up a good amount of seat back height. For double the price, it’s an easy choice to me. My steelcase leap v2 was so bad I wanted my 300$ gaming chair back. To each his own, but steelcase chairs aren’t worth more than 400$ in my opinion

Cosm isn't on the same level as any of those other chairs, the Embody and Aeron would have been the best chairs to try from HM.

So in argument for the Aeron is how it has a really amazing forward tilt function where the entire seat including backrest follows you forward. This seems minor but if you're leaning in a lot to do art or work, whatever, it really does make a big different to your general back support.
I gotcha. The Fern has a forward tilt option as well but when I tried it at the dealer, I didn’t care for it, personally. The Aeron is probably amazing but it’s just ugly to me. It would be out of place in my office. The Fern strikes the perfect balance between form and function imo. Gotta love options!
@@themarshallfox the forward tilt on the fern only brings the butt forward whereas the aeron brings the entire chair towards you, so you can lean in and still have all the support - its a minor but significant difference.

@@themarshallfox yeah, the fern looks amazing don’t get me wrong but I tried the aeron yesterday in store and that feature was the selling point for me, bought one today and getting rid of my neuechair! In terms of comfort and looks the fern is more customizable and pleasing.
Completely agree, the forward tilt on the Fern is a gimmicky feature and it would honestly do better without it, like the Steelcase chairs.
Only Herman Miller seem to know how to implement a solid forward tilt feature that actually has practical use. Their recline mechanism is pretty much unparalleled and a big reason why their chairs are so damn good to rock in.

Haworth chairs have seriously good ergonomics. I'd never heard of them until a former employer bought their Zody model for everyone in the office and it was so comfortable that I got rid of the Herman Miller Aeron I had in my home office and found a Zody to replace it. Not as sexy as your chair, but with many of the same features and I even found one on craigslist for like $100!
I hear great things about the Zody! You got a crazy good deal.
funny, im trying to replace my aeron. its good for my back but the seat feels too firm for my comfort. doesnt let you relax. helps to have a footrest so its easy to slightly lean back. i'll keep it when my back feels out of whack, but looking for a cushiony padded chair now.

While it's definitely an interesting chair from Haworth, it's not quite in the same league as the top offerings from Herman Miller and Steelcase. Also, it's a shame there are no authorised dealers in the UK, meaning that there's no way to try before you buy. The warranty is also quite disappointing, since you're only covered for 3 years on the fabric.
I haven’t tried HM or Steelcase but I do want the Eames chair when we move to our new home, but we’ll see. Whatever league the Fern is in, I’m fine with. I hope you find the one you’re looking for. Thanks for watching.
@@themarshallfox I'm not implying that the Fern is a 3rd rate chair, I just think that Haworth is lacking in a few places. However, that's not to say that the chair isn't a great option, I'm sure it's better than the majority of office chairs on the market. The Embody has actually been discontinued in the UK, so I'm really surprised that Haworth hasn't seized the opportunity.

I think they’re still trying to figure the WFH space out. I’ve had my Fern for almost 2 years now and it still looks and feels like the day I bought it so I’m glad I took the chance.
@@themarshallfox There's apparently a digital knit configuration which has got quite a lot of high praise from expert reviewers, more so than the Steelcase Gesture and Leap v2.
Unfortunately, once again it's only available to North American customers. 😕

I mean, the video is great! And I'm sure the chair is as well, but the cheapest configuration that I made was $1900+. That's just too expensive for me. I looked at all the other models as well, and none of them were any cheaper. You might as well just buy HM if you just have money burning a hole in your pocket.

Check out the Duo Rest Alpha, I really like that chair as well. It’s not quite as sexy as the Fern, but it’s really comfy… and unique. The arm rests don’t slide laterally though, that’s the only real flaw in my opinion.

Hey Marshall, I saw some reviews online saying the digital knit chairs have a rough texture in the seat that is uncomfortable when sitting in it with shorts. Have you experienced anything like that? I'm debating on which Fern to go with.
The digital knit fabric is very rough, I imagine that's because they want it to be durable. If you're worried about the texture, I'd go with a different seating fabric. I love my fern, i'm 6'8". My only complaint is the seat gap in the seat pan, but everything else is 10/10. Back support, adjustability, etc.

It's definitely not better than Herman Miller or Steelcase chairs, because Haworth doesn't offer anything ground breaking over its competitors. I'd put Herman Miller and Steelcase on roughly the same level, Haworth is one step below them.
@@StardustLegacyFighter I strongly disagree. I’m not a fan of the aeron, the only chair that feels on par with the fern is the embody. It feels a little better on the back, the way it hugs you, but you do give up a good amount of seat back height. For double the price, it’s an easy choice to me. My steelcase leap v2 was so bad I wanted my 300$ gaming chair back. To each his own, but steelcase chairs aren’t worth more than 400$ in my opinion
