In 1966 I started watching Doctor Who from The Power of the Daleks onwards and still have many memories of Patrick Troughton's stories before they were wiped! So I'm always delighted to see younger folks discovering his era for the first time and enjoying them as much as I did. Thanks for the video, it was a lovely trip down memory lane. 👍
The chemistry between Patrick Troughton, Frazier Hines, and Wendy Padbury was amazing. Best Tardis team ever! And it didn't hurt that Wendy was by far the cutest companion in the show's entire run!
Grew up on Tom Baker as "my Doctor" so he will always be my favorite, but in many ways the 2nd doctor is the one that set the stage for who the doctor is and how he should be played.
Patrick Troughton is my 2nd favourite doctor after Jon Pertwee--after all, Troughton set the template for future Doctors. Think of Charlie Chaplin's tramp persona meets The Absent Minded Professor, and you've got the idea. He really was a cosmic hobo, with memorable companions who really showed their personalities. RIP, Patrick (1920--1987); you will never be forgotten, and forever warmly remembered. 😁🇬🇧🐨😸🕰
I hate it when people say that Baker or Tennant are the "best doctor". They're all equal in my mind, you can't place any doctor above another. That being said, Troughton is THE best doctor.
The Tomb of the Cybermen is my first memory of Doctor Who. The Cybermen breaking out of their tombs absolutely scared the shit out of four year old me. My only memory of Patrick Troughton as Doctor Who is in the Abominable Snowman adventure when he rolled the glowing sphere that attracted the Snowmen off the cliff.
Well done. In the USA, we had no way to see the 2nd doctor for many, many years, but now services like Pluto TV show these episodes and they are great to watch!
Gerry Davis, the script editor for this period, was a good friend for many years. First, there's a script for TP4 without the regeneration... just in case Bill stayed on. And the reason he went wasn't ill health, he was sacked because he was 'difficult' to work with. That explains why he got so few jobs after being dropped... a Z Cars episode, a short panto season and a couple of episodes of a Cliff Richard show from '67. He was still in his '50s, let's not forget, when he departed the Tardis - around the same age as Capaldi.
While I grew up watching Tom Baker, I really liked Patrick Troughton when I discovered him. I think he gets underrated because so many of the 2nd Doctor episodes are missing, but the ones we do have are very good. I just recently watched The Enemy of the World, and Troughton did a heck of a job portraying a dual role as both The Doctor and the main villain. You almost think that the villain had to be played by a different actor, in spite of the similar appearance.
Wendy padbury ..was married to actor who came in it ain't half hot mom for got his name , 2nd doctors assistant Sarah .got killed by cyber men,, got melted,
@@thegasmaskpodcast Ah thanks. Not aware of that. Hartnell and Fraser were in the TV series The Army Game. Hartnell the Sargent to a group of post war National Service misfits which included Fraser and Alfie Bass as Bootsy and Snudge. They went on to their own series with those characters, and Hartnell into Dr Who. I well remember seeing Dr Who from the start and I can't tell you the impact of the first regeneration to Troughton had.
I’m sorry how could people think he was Racist he was The Legend of doctor Who And he loved his fans who watched him on dvd or When they broadcasted Plus due to type casting he was just trying to figure out how he would play the role
Series 5 is my second series of Patrick Troughton era as the second Doctor and Patrick Troughton as amazing when he is on scene as the second Doctor
Troughton will forever be my favourite classic doctor.
Troughton is my favourite classic doctor with Pertwee coming in a close 2nd imo. I just wish they discover more of his lost episodes.
I agree. He was a great actor and a wonderful person.

You've got to admire Troughton's courage in stepping into Hartnell's shoes.

👍
I've seen them all, even worked with quite a few. I really liked Zoe back then too !

William Hartnell was the original and therefore has to be the best.
@@golden.lights.twinkle2329 It’s Troughton he just did better then the first
I remember watching Tomb of the Cyberman in early 70s-20 yrs later bought the official VHS copy and still enjoy it now Auckland New Zealand 2023
Oh, thank you! I love the Second Doctor, especially with Jamie!

Wendy Padbury as Zoe, the best ever Doctor Who companion. Elisabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane Smith gets an honourable mention.
Yes I love it when the Doctor has a smart companion. Makes them more than just exposition.
Interesting how the famous Recorder shows up occasionally to future Doctors and they seem puzzled as to why it is there.

That scene of Zoe wearing that catsuit straddling the TARDIS console... sorry, what were we talking about?
The Mind Robber is one of my favorites for more than one reason...
Pastrick was a great actor, a brilliant Uriah Heap and grandad of Dudley Dursley.

Patrick troughton is my fourth doctor who and series six is my favourite series of his era of doctor who
Season Six is indeed a masterpiece.

You named Frazier Hines as Jamey, but neglected to note that Zoe was played by Wendy Padbury. Both beautiful acyirs

Jump suits, padbury
Fraser not Frazier
The sad thing is we don’t get to watch all of Patrick Troughton’s Doctor Who stories since the BBC stupidity junked a big bulk of his episodes.
He's not called Dr Who, just the Doctor!
If Hartnell made the Doctor, Troughton insured the Doctor's immortality
Exactly right.
nice video
Best one,
Where does the clip of Hartnell being helped by Bill Fraser as Troughton dressed as a tramp or rough farm hand looks on at 0.31 come from?
It's from the television series Dial 999, it's actually one of two appearances together. The other was the film Escape in 1948.

Mat Smith didn't play the Doctor like Troughton did. Smith played the Doctor as New Who crap - always over the top, always crescendo.
