I have spent the last 50+ years travelling around Asia, and if you are looking for the pub with the best music for the night, find the one with the Filipino band. Totally professional musicians that mostly do nothing but covers of a particular type of music, but do it so well you could close your eyes and think the original artist(s) were there doing it. Not surprised at all they have some great bass players.
Not surprised Davie found plenty of great bassist. Just about every tv show I have seen about music in the Philippines describes Filipinos, I mean Filipeians as amazing musicians and extreme fast learners. I recall Anthony Bourdain’s “Parts Unknown” episode from the Philippines. The band members he interviewed said they needed to learn new songs as soon as they’re released so they are ready to play at a club, etc. 🙂✋
I've been doing Professional Studio work since 1972 from Manhattan to California and a lot of places in between. Not to be too generalized, but Filipinos make some of the best musicians that I have worked with. Singers, Bassists, Drummers, Guitar, Keys. Yep, pretty amazing. They really seem to have Music in their Blood. Oh, and the #1 Country that loves Karaoke - yeah, that too.
