I bought water colour pencils last year but didn’t really know how to use them so seeing this picture and the title thought I would watch and have a go myself ! 🤙🏼👍🏻🙏🏼🇬🇧❤️Thank you this helped lots🙏🏼🙏🏼💯🙏🏼
Debbie- you can create a palette of watercolor pencil on paper to use as a ‘glaze’ of sorts. The test swatch could be used to pick up color as a palette. You could even do a strip of water color rubbings and take with you on a trip! ;) Also.. if you work from the lightest part of the petal to the darkest you can get a softer looser look.
This is also a great way to make "paint with water" pages for kids.. color a palette for them either on a separate sheet of cardstock, or directly along the side of the page and they can simply use water to paint. Really cuts down on the mess.

I had these in my art cupboard for years! I used to use them when traveling because they are easy to pack, and clean. I hope you give them a try, they can be something different and fun!
Nice techniques. I like watercolor pencils & regular color pencils. When I paint with them I smooth the painting with a white color pencil & it looks really nice & smooth.
I love WC pencils and I have all kinds from cheap to expensive. I must admit I don't use my Albrecht Dürer pencils very often. When I just wanna play around I usually grab the not so expensive ones. So if you don't want to spend a lot of money go for Koh I Noor or Stabilo or Giotto. They are great fun to use.
Thank you for sharing with everyone. I rarely use the pencils, they just dont interest me for some reason. I do like playing with all art supplies though :-) These can be fun when you get the hang of them, and a fun way to add some interest to watercolors. Happy playing friend! Its an interesting affect isn't it. I don't use my color pencils so much and am always happy when I Find ways to play with them since they have sat in my art supplies for years! Happy playing friend!
I think I would like the pencils most for adding details after regular watercolor…like veins on leaves or bark on trees etc. I also line the idea of using them in the car. I wonder if I sharpened mine and did a lighter steps of layers to get a pretty blend. But again, I think I prefer regular watercolor.
Yes, they blended very well when I used a wet paintbrush to pick up paint directly off of the pencil, And details they are ok. I think I am not really a watercolor pencil girl! I did use them a lot when I was traveling and they were so easy to pack~ Happy epxloring and painting!

@@DebbieWalkerArtmadeeasy I think I like "ordinary" paint better. The pencils are hard to get a smooth look on rough paper. I might use them occasionally for outlines - or not :D
That will depend on the paper your using, you can press hard or light, it will modify the amount of watercolor pencil and the vibrance of the color the more you press. Play with both light and moderate pressure see which you prefer.
Great video Debbie! Appreciate you taking the time to create this video for us:-) The different techniques were so helpful and you’ve inspired me to start using the Faber Castell pencils I have. I wondered if we can erase the initial pencil sketch after using the watercolor pencils? What are your thoughts on outlining a sketch with watercolor pencils? I tried doing so with sketching lemons the other day and unfortunately it was so hard to see the lemon yellow outline and then I wasn’t sure how the outline would look once wet and moved on to another painting:-0 Not to be greedy or anything,;-) but you mentioned water brushes - that would be another helpful video to show us how to use those especially, when traveling or for plein air painting.
