    Recently I had 2018 IBJJF World Champ Mahamed Aly out to our gym to train and do some videos.
    In this video Mahamed focused his attention to White Belts defending armbars. So in this video we show an armbar escape.
    He said when he was a White Belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu he didn't want to tap and would get his arm popped all the time. He'd leave training with sore arms.
    So to help White Belts and any Brazilian Jiujitsu practitioner with their ability to survive. He shows a slick armbar defense.
    If you're struggling with defending armbars then I hope this video is useful for you!
    Being able to defend submissions is the focus of anyone who is new to BJJ.
    Hope you enjoyed the video and I'll see you next time!

      Tried it and it doesn’t work, in the video the leg controlling the head is lifted, in an actual role you can’t just move your head out like that, also the S grip is easy to take apart.

      @tomsnow925 3 года назад

      @@brassvulcher8207 yeah i mean good guys have the pressure on your head with their thigh so you're stuck to the mat, even when i've been able to escape and roll over the first attempt, sometimes you end up rolling all the way into exactly the same position because their knees and hips are so tight to you

    Blue belt here. That second escape he shows is 100% in my bread and butter. Super effective and most folks don't know it's coming.

      Are you talking about the one at the 6 minute mark?

    • @BrokenFistX
      @BrokenFistX 5 лет назад +14

      Yep. The version I was taught involved grabbing the gi collar qith the arm that's under attack and using the free one to stuff one or both legs (if they decided to cross their feet). Not that I can confirm but the black belt I learned it from indicated it was one he learned from Helio Gracie at some point in the distant past. Have fun with the escape!

    • @unsungSwissHero
      @unsungSwissHero 5 лет назад +3

      How do you get out, if the guy crosses his legs when applying the armbar? I use something similar too, but if they cross the legs I'll not be able to hook their leg with my leg.

    • @BrokenFistX
      @BrokenFistX 5 лет назад +2

      @@unsungSwissHero Honestly that's one I've practiced and hit much less in live rolling but the principle is similar. As they're swinging their leg over you push it past your head which picks up the other leg. If you can't get both, even getting one is worth while. Also, apologies because I haven't been able to find a video to back it up. Good luck!

    • @unsungSwissHero
      @unsungSwissHero 5 лет назад +2

      @@BrokenFistX what I meant is, if the person crosses the feet trapping your both arms inside their legs. So you have no free arm to pull the legs over. 🙂

    Chewy. I hope you see this. As mentioned before I am a white belt. This is my trick to survive an armbar. Since I have learned to recognize use the armbar is coming. On the side where it will happen I reach up and grab opponents lapel, keeping a slight bend in the arm. When they go to sit back, I tighten my grip and arm muscles. When most of my training partners sit back. They do t realize I flex my arm muscles. And the weight of their torso going back towards the floor actually pulls me up from the floor. And with a little well timed motion of getting to my knees. I can soon escape the armbar. I hope this helps other white belts who might read this.

      frannelk I think he is going the wrong way, I think you are supposed to take the foot off your neck and get it behind your head and walk away from the (still parallel to them). In practice you really can’t pass 2 feet, they aren’t going to just let you walk under their feet, so trapping their top foot locked behind your head you would only have to pass one foot.

You have to put your right foot under uke shoulder and controll the neck with the left and put your knees together. Its useless to just hold both your legs opend and relaxed over ukes torso.

    FINALLY. I was looking how to GET OUT of armbar IN GI. I find its difficult for people to get me in armbar with no-gi ... which I feel is more realistic if you got in an actual fight because no one is wearing sleeves often unless its winter, but my class is all gi except on day a week & in nearly two years, I have not seen an "escape armbar" technique so I am looking online & was seeing no-gi escapes, which are good ... but this one right here, where they have the END of your sleeve & wrist & fall back, I could not find until just now. Thanks a lot. I will be using this one for sure. There is a girl a full belt ahead of me thats got long legs & only armbars people so I will be trying this often.
