- Policing minister Chris Philp has called on forces to increase the use of stop and search as part of a “robust approach” to tackle knife crime.
Writing for the Daily Telegraph, Mr Philp described stop and search as a “vital tool” which is “not used nearly often enough”.
Former Met Detective Mike Neville joins Talk’s Kevin O’Sullivan to analyse the crime situation on London streets.

Caught carrying a knife- 5yrs of national service. They aren’t taught discipline by their parent/parents in the home. If caught with a knife and they still live at home with parents- the 5yrs plus £5,000 fine for parents to pay. There HAS to be parental responsibility too.

I remember there was hardly any crime about 40 years ago, yes we did have some sort of criminal activity themdays but the way it's going on now it's a everyday topic, what is the future for our next generation, where did it go wrong and who's behind the downfall of this country, we grew up in the early seventies and those days were the greatest days of our lives now it's completely opposite, if the politicians don't do anything about the way things are going on at this moment it will go out of control. Why would the cops bother and how can anyone expect them to? The met recently sacked 3 for a search of two bellends who acted belligerently.
