Steve Hogarth has an incredibly beautiful voice. Emotive, powerful, distinctive! He pours everything into every word. I'm blessed to have discovered this band 40 years ago and blessed even more that they still stick together, writing, creating, giving us so much beauty to absorb.
I was so sad when Fish left this band....UNTIL I embraced Steve Hogarth and the new direction this extraordinary band journeyed into. Incredibly dynamic vocals, lush, emotive soundscapes, a sonic experience like no other band can create. Marillion is truly a gift to anyone who enjoys beautiful, thought provoking music.
They are truly amazing, and I"m so lucky to have had an honour to have seen them live during the Brave tour, I was 18 now I am 48 and still loving it. 🎉❤🎉🎉
Thank goodness I found Marillion in time to appreciate their music for a few more years yet ..hopefully ..some of the best music I’ve ever heard in 64 years..
Wow, I have discovered Marillion. Five friends, creating music, bringing such emotion, and incredible music. with an army of followers. And H, wow man, what a voice. What songwriting. Thank you.
It absolutely is. This one always has a reserved spot in my top 10 revolving index of favorites. This version is somehow even better than the original imo. It's enhanced.
I agree, this song is so incredibly gorgeous. Like so many Marillion songs, it builds from soft and beautiful to a crescendo of power and dynamic energy. There is no band on earth like Marillion.
This is stunning, quite different from the Fish Marillion era , like those two eras are different but both terrific. I wish I would have been there . Seems to me every band going to the RAH is exceeding in performance. This is one of the greatest life albums I have heard.
This song can be interpreted in two possible ways. Steve H, struggling to be happy with his family life, while performing center stage. Tempted by the beautiful things "women in the audience, throwing themselves at his feet". I also feel Steve coming to grips with the reality of growing old. Many references about when we were young and later acting his age and watch the beautiful things from the shadowed wings. A musical journey of epic proportions! No band does emotion, like Marillion!!
What a song !!! wow again and again rest in my head everyday and night !!! i dont know why !! but the build up of this song ! it s really emotional ! sometimes i cry !!when he say ! what happen to the colors !! the fire !!
Been a Marillion fan since 1983 (city hall St Albans), "White Paper" was the first song I disliked, and generally I skipped it when playing F.E.A.R.... Then I started to get it, to the point that I played it on repeat endlessly! What an awesome song, possibly in my top 5 Marillion songs now!
almost every Marillion album is like that for me...I have to WANT IT, and WORK AT IT...lol....SWE especially....didn't like it much until I saw the tour live....now Somewhere In London is my Go-To DVD most times
Have you by chance got any pictures from the St Albans City hall concert in 1983 ? Would love to see how the city hall looked back then, and how the concert was.
only 8 years late as usual! I have discovered this song , it is utterly captivating, possibly the best song I have heard ever, and I have heard a lot of songs!!
I’m 7 days behind you in discovery of this song. Song seems like the wrong word. It’s more than just a “ song “. I found….discovered Marillion only a few days back and I’m listening to the assortment of songs. The best so far is The Space….. White Paper is great too. Their music touches deep, sad, lost parts of my past. I have a great life but there were lost loves in my early years of searching. The past emotions are remembered when I listen to this. I’m reminded of the sadness of those losses…..yet…I listen ,replay….and replay………and replay……Dave in Omaha Im 74. ..
Like many things gaining age and experience has improved Marillion. They have shifted from a band of par excellence to other worldly. The prophetic lyrics and magical musical interpretation, everything gets better as they age.
'The different shades of white, fill my head tonight'. This line has guided me for decades. awesome lyrics from the master. Pete solid on bass as usual. I reckon the band run to him when they need to change a tyre or the oil etc. lol. He looks dependable and a hard worker. Gr8 effort here. I bet Pete Gabriel has admired Steve's voice thru the years.
LOVE MARILLION... AND YOUR ROAD WILL BE HAPPINESS !!!
Steve G, I'm as vexed as you. I was blown away 20+ years ago when I first heard "He Knows You Know" and later Kayleigh. I play two of there songs in my set, "After Me" & "Lavender", people think its my music. I might be the only fan here in California. Come to the States Marillion!!!
The Royal Albert Hall is the best progressive and classic rock venue. Perfect for a grandiose group like Marillion. They should do a residency. What a marvelous spectacle of light and sound and aura from this amazing band. Long live Marillion.
First i've heard of them. Looks like Dave Gilmour on drums and Peter Gabriels bro on vox. But seriously, i know they've been around awhile. This was excellent. Gr8 audio and performance lads. ty
Marillion commands your total attention. They're not lite, casual listening musically and lyrically. I'm not about to go on a tirade of how the US is on a cultural and intellectual back slide. I will say there are works of art that require the participant to go all in.
There is no saturday evening where I am not able to listen this song that takes my soul away from mysely! Marillion always a step ahead! Thanks to nurture my emotional conscience
But the ones that take time seem to hold a special place forever. All my favorite albums/songs are this way. I'm going to see them in Osaka, Japan tomorrow night.
How did I never know of this band...I know obscure stuff, used to work at a radio station, did a special show on unusual and progressive music. How did they hide?
A sad smile on my face coz many of the new generation people even from the UK itself dont know Marillion, and even Marillion's official page was verified 2 years ago or something. The smile is that finally people got to see their work , and this is because FEAR might not be their best work , but lyricially, it matches what happens in our Era
I had the opportunity to see them live at Marquee in 1982 and despite the fact that they are one of my favourite band since then, however, I still believe that are following the musical steps of GENESIS under Peter Gabriel's influence...you know...they know...
Gran canción y escenario perfecto. Yo viví en Londres hace muchos años y lo ví el teatro por fuera, aunque no llegué a entrar 😩. Un saludo a tod@s desde España y feliz Navidad.
I am utterly obsessed with this song. Powerful, detailed, rising and falling, so wistfully painful and elegiac. Superb.

AND ME
Don't worry: I second your obsession 😊 Absolutely blown away! Simply magnificent...
Totally hooked
One of their very best. Perfect song.
Steve Hogarth has an incredibly beautiful voice. Emotive, powerful, distinctive! He pours everything into every word. I'm blessed to have discovered this band 40 years ago and blessed even more that they still stick together, writing, creating, giving us so much beauty to absorb.
Pienamente d'accordo , Steve Hogarth unico nelle sue melodie che toccano l' anima di chi lo ascolta , sublime.
Music orgasm all the way

I couldnt have put it better myself........ they are the soundtrack to my life.
Couldnt agree more
Hope the Fish got a house out of it at least. Steve is the man no doubt. ty
"Marillion is a way of life...Marillion is a state of mind....Marillion is an emotional mystery..."
Phil from FRANCE - a Marillion fan since 1983...

Moi depuis 85 découverte grâce à mon petit copain polonais!,
Hogarth’s diction is always crystal clear, and his voice pitch perfect and emotional. Wonderful.

The most underrated band in the world. ... True musicians.
I agree, I live in the USA and they are too ..... to understand this beautiful music. I have to fly to Canada to see them, so be it.
One of he few songs the universe proudly admits to have created.
I don't know why but I always seem to get something in my eyes when I listen to Marillion ballads.
How you put pen to paper to write a song as beautiful as this is simply God Given..... Immense Track
Thank goodness I found Marillion in time to appreciate their music for a few more years yet ..hopefully ..some of the best music I’ve ever heard in 64 years..
It is like finding the holy grail…
I agree

Sentiti x caso , a fa quel momento non ho potuto fare a meno di continuare ad ascoli
The gods of not only progressive rock, but of all music. White Paper is yet another Marillion masterwork. This band is my musical savior.
One of the best Marillion songs ever. Perfectly built from beggining to end. Becomes better each time I hear.
Yess xxx
It absolutely is. This one always has a reserved spot in my top 10 revolving index of favorites. This version is somehow even better than the original imo. It's enhanced.
I totally agree. I came here to say the exact same. What a master piece.

When the chemistry of exceptionally talented musicians is brewed for over 30 years, it can only result in a beautiful shine.
The best band in the world.
Please boys....
Entièrement d'accord. 😍
so true
@jonybeam
Idiot.......

so much conveyed in so few words, this never ceases to choke me up.
only marillion writes such spot-on truth.
It took a long time to really get this album but as always the ones that take longer are always the ones that you like the best

Grande pezzo. Testo, musica, interpretazione, tutto é incredibilmente misurato, forte ed emozionante.
SO who won in the end FISH or MARILLION
@Corporate Cunts Really was expecting a more grown up and well balanced argument than than that ,,,sad
Have you by chance got any pictures from the St Albans City hall concert in 1983 ? Would love to see how the city hall looked back then, and how the concert was.

Goosebumps through the whole track. Such a beautiful song ❤️❤️
one of their best songs, Makes me cry when I listen to it

Fair play to the production guys. The sound, visuals are stunning

There's so much love in the room, they're so amazing. ❤️

Marillion.. greatest live band ... missing live music.
You are my drug guys, I`m taken on another planet with your music/your lyrics. My hat off to you. We are all so lucky we have you.
Brilliant song, best band in the world by a country mile
Like others said sad when Fish left, but bands survive, and this was just beautiful with Mr Hogarth 💚
Ian Mosley is so elegant playing
Great Sir
Absolutely. He plays what's needed and it's so tasty and thoughtful. Never about him. Only what the song needs!!!
Yep, he is so good at making it all look effortless and easy, yet what he plays is beautiful and more complex than his relaxed style belies!
top drummer, one of the best ever.
As a drummer I absolutely agree. A fine groove.
Amazing song and lyrics, the best band of prog rock. This concert at RAH was great.
Best concert I've ever been to and I've been to A LOT! Nothing can compare to that night.
Could well be one of Marillion's very best tracks.
This song gets under your skin and slowly permeates your whole being.
Musical perfection.
Outstanding performance. I'd go that far to say even better than the studio recording.
Ingo Vogelmann isn't that always the case with Marillion? !! ☺
gorgeous, sad, BIG! Marillion are so underrated.
Just gives me goosebumps every time. Stunning.

maarten benner All time??! Maybe you are so young you don’t know Genesis, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits....
Thanks fot the compliment!! Big fan from Genesis/Steve Hackett and also Pink Floyd. Marillion is my all time favourite and i'm 55 years, thx!
Mine too...adicted
Since Pink Floyd, the best band on earth
100% better than the garbage we hear today. Why Marillion never made it big in the USA I will never know.
Marillion commands your total attention. They're not lite, casual listening musically and lyrically. I'm not about to go on a tirade of how the US is on a cultural and intellectual back slide. I will say there are works of art that require the participant to go all in.
Maybe It's best that Marlilion never made it big here in the U.S.A. but they do have hard core fan's here
" US is on a cultural and intellectual back slide" no truer words ever spoken....
one being myself since forever... but I have always thought that this is different styled band than the Fish Marillion.
mbcljm 59 one of the big reasons Fish left the group in 1988.....musical differences.
I can't stop my crying
There is no saturday evening where I am not able to listen this song that takes my soul away from mysely! Marillion always a step ahead! Thanks to nurture my emotional conscience
I'm 63. Saw alot of bands. I regret I never made the effort to see. Marillion. Great live band.
What a master piece
agreed
Ici nous sommes dans du haut , du très haut niveau du progressif !
This is my Faforite band because Of their music I feel Something
Fantastic lyrics. One of my favorite Marillion songs
Still warming to this one, but that's what I love about Marillion...they always challenge me.
The Marillion weekend is something out of this world..saw it last year and was probably, one of the best ive seen.outstanding
took a couple of listens to like this tune....but now I have to say it is an immense track.....
graham milliken loved it from day 1 :)
graham milliken that's quiet normal with some long marillion tracks, they grow on you slowly, then , BANG, it's immense
But the ones that take time seem to hold a special place forever. All my favorite albums/songs are this way. I'm going to see them in Osaka, Japan tomorrow night.
Absolutely fantastic concert!
How did I never know of this band...I know obscure stuff, used to work at a radio station, did a special show on unusual and progressive music. How did they hide?
