great awesome video and catches of these Southwest Chiefs with good horn action nice catch catching 184 on one of theme nice catch too to see what 164 looked like before it became hertige as well
The only reason this wig wag is still in service is because BNSF doesn't give a rat's ass about the Raton Pass line anymore. In fact, the only trains using the line between La Junta, CO and Lamy, NM is both of the Southwest Chief. BNSF has offered to host the train via Witchita, Wellington, Amarillo, and Clovis. Amtrak isn't willing to take this option, though, since those towns are on the Southern Transcon, and that line is really crowded with not only a ton of BNSF trains, but also UP and KCS trackage rights trains and the Rail Runner. Really, running the Southwest Chief (is it really too much to just start calling it the Super Chief again?) on the Transcon would be an unmitigated disaster, as its common knowledge that heavy freight traffic=Amtrak trains getting snubbed in terms of superiority and being treated like trash, forced into passing sidings while intermodal and unit trains overtake them, when really, it should be the other way around.

Excellent work!
Thanks for the video, love the snow with the train too. It looks like the wig wag was recently painted or renovated. Good to see someone cares.
Nice work, time looks short for the Semaphores! Going out on #3 end of April hopefully some still in service.
Love it! I'm surprised that that old school equipment is still out there doing its job!
