    Thank you, Mr. Goodwin, for making this available. This particular engine--built in 1927, when my late father was 10 years old--was his favourite, as he saw in many times when growing up in California.

    why was 3751 hooked up to diesels every time it was moving?

      @AustinGoodwin1  8 лет назад +1

      It costs more for insurance if the engine runs without them and the run from Redondo Junction to Fullerton

      Austin Goodwin actually the the locomotive was far over due for its federally mandated inspection and overhaul, so the locomotive didn’t move under its own power because of this, however the boiler could still be fired to blow its own whistle

    Can N&W 611 travel to California?

    • @AustinGoodwin1
      @AustinGoodwin1  8 лет назад +3

      Can it? Yes. Will it? No. Especially to Southern California. California itself is too far out of its normal operating territory and working out a trip of such magnitude would be almost impossible to do.

      N&W 611 west coast highly unlikely ever because midwest and east coast steamers use coal which releases cinders in the dry Cali terrain that equals fire an absolute high risk situation fire waiting to happen along side the mainline .

    I keep checking videos of this engine hoping against hope that she'll actually run. Always disappointed. I don't believe 3751 is capable of pulling much more than her own weight and making enough steam to blow the whistle. Somebody wake me up when she's pulling a train....BY HERSELF.

      Norman D Edgerly the 3751 is 100% capable of pulling any type of real train of decent length like it did back in the steam era. The crew has in no way shape or form made any modifications that resulted in the engine only being able to handle itself and blow the whistle. The engine doesn’t get out often because operating conditions are very tough to deal with when it’s in the middle of one of the busiest rail corridors in the United States

    Joke movement, 611 moves on her own!

      It's an entirely different operating procedure for mainline steam trips on the west coast when compared to the 611 excursions. If the 611 came to Southern California without diesel helpers then I would agree, but that won't happen.
