  • This is a review of the Paititi Txx-7 mouthpiece for tenor sax. This is a repost of a popular video I did. I've already gotten 2 unlacquered mouthpieces plated (gold and silver) from Anderson Silver Plating.

    This mouthpiece looks identical to a Lawton mouthpiece that I bought used in 1979 at the NAJE convention in Albuquerque. I loved it and used it until my horn was stolen in 1987. I think I may try one just to see what it is like...

    Hi, I bought the same by Aliexpress with the name Aisiweier for 35.80 US$. My choice was the Tenor 6 gold lack 24K.
    Yes the finish is good. You say that it is easy to play. I find it more difficult to play as the other Chinese I have the Dukoff Tenor 7.
    I pay it 28 US$, but have polished it using sand paper 600 -to 10'000 and with diamant paste to improve the sealing with the reed and the inside, improving the sound.
    The Aisiweier is a lot louder as the Dukoff, but the Dukoff is for me easier to play and disturbs less the neighborhood. Perhaps you will say more dark.
    The geometry inside is completely different in both mouthpieces.
    I play them with Légère Signature 2 or 2.25.
    Thank you for testing low cost material. Not every one can buy mouthpiece at 600 US$ or more.

    Just bought this too for my alto and man it gives me a nice bright sound and I find it really easy to blow through. I may try stronger Reed to see if that changes. But I feel like you get more bang for your buck here.

    I love it how when you start to explain at 08:03 the sound is totally muted for a brief moment, as the camera microphone needs to adjust its sensitivity level after huge projection of your tenor sax, lol

    Good Sir, Thank you. We all perceive and mitigate risk in our own way so I'll refrain from rehashing toxicity comments prev, submitted. That mpc doesn't have as good a sound as many you've demoed. less bite, stuffy, Including the Aibay. Although I agree with your comments on predatory trade in other vid, I've spent a small fortune on USA mpcs and think I'll spring for an Aibay free of guilt. I recall a suggestion that If you want a 7 feel buy a 9. BTW...I wonder what chemicals {soluble in saliva} leach out of that rubber patch? :} And keep oxidizing those reeds, Doc, peroxides of water rule.

    The tone is inconsistent, it breaks apart. This is, like, a brass blank mouthpiece, but needs hours of hand work by a pro refacer to refine it into something usable.
    When you play on a really good mouthpiece, like on that Woodstone of yours, and this one, the difference is like heaven and earth.
    When hours of fine tuning and refacing are added on top, the cost comes to the level of a brand new, professionally made mouthpiece.

  • @gangofgreenhorns2672
    @gangofgreenhorns2672 3 года назад

    I might have to get some of the bare brass versions of these chinese mouthpieces and get them plated. Also I'm thinking about getting the Theo Wanne kit and learning refacing with that. Been watching a lot of stuff on it lately. Pretty happy with all my Bergs now though as far as my main mpcs. MRS Akron dude told me he had a Mark VI Bb bari btw, pretty sure he wants more than what I paid for the Super 20 though.

    Unrelated question, I have some BARI brand clear plastic reeds. H, M, and Soft. I like the fact that they can be left on and just pick the horn and play. My question, can they be worked, sanded, rush? I can No info. Just thought You or somebody might know.👍😎🎵🎵

    • @tracezacur6784
      @tracezacur6784 3 года назад

      I think they can be sanded, and clipped. But I don't think you can file them or use a reed geek. The BARI woodwind factory is close by to my hometown. I've seen their manufacturing process. They are good reeds actually. Really durable. They can definitely be sanded

    Vandorren reeds take a while to break in to get that fat sound you’re looking for. If you want to play the low notes with that reed, it will require a lot of breath for me. I play the Bari sax with a Jody Jazz Superjet. And it costs $450. But the mouthpiece you’re playing with, sounds 🤩
    What expensive jazz mouthpiece would you recommend. Don’t say Theo Wanne Durga 4😅😅 that’s almost 800.

    • @Sirvalorsax
      @Sirvalorsax  2 года назад

      I would get an Otto Link and find someone that knows how to adjust them to your liking. Your looking at around $200-$300 for the mouthpiece and around $200 to have it adjusted. If you wanted to have it replated in addition to that you are looking at another $200 ish dollars. Somewhere between $500-$700. If you are looking for something expensive out of the box, I love the work that Arnold Montgomery and Morgan Frye are doing.

    About plating mouthpieces, how does the thickness of the plating material added affect the interior dimension and flow volume of the mouthpiece, and the plating thickness on the facing as well. To they reface or remove the plating from the facing when they finish the job? If so, doesn’t that expose the original material you are trying to protect yourself from?

    • @Sirvalorsax
      @Sirvalorsax  3 года назад +2

      The idea is to have it plated with a known entiry when it's finished. It's raw brass and how it reacts when in the mouth that is the concern for unplated mpcs. Since I can't get any info from the manufacturer about what this plating is, I'd rather just have it plated from a well known and trusted source.

    You always sound great, Sir. I can absolutely hear what you mean about the altissimo on this piece. Wow! Sounds like you were able to articulate through those double-time lines fairly well too. There was clarity and definition of each note. Your low register is fat and warm as well. Were you able to get that easily on this piece or did you have to work a little harder? With a mouthpiece that isn't quite as open, for me, the low register will fight me.

      I appreciate your negative sentiments about China. However, one needs to understand that with the technologies and metallurgical advances all over the world, it is not hard to duplicate a good working example in a medium size factory. Many people would be prepared to hand out 3 or 4 times more, for the knowledge of not having a Chinese made rubbish in his mouth. But I bet many don't see "made in China" as an issue as most of the stuffs at Walmart are made in China anyway.

      @@WalkOverHotCoal Stick to the script . We talking about saxophone mouthpieces . Furthermore my statement still stands . I'm leary of putting things made in China in my mouth. Advances all over the world in technology , doesn't mean that certain countries adhere to certain health regulations . To further your ignorance of my statement , let me ask you a question : " If " China is considered an adversary of the U.S. , why would I want that adversary , OR ANY OTHER ADVERSARY , to feed me ? So with that being said , if something that is designed to be ingested , eaten , or goes in my mouth and it's made in China .... I'm Not Putting It In "MY" Mouth .
