    Very Nice.. Like the joke about SOLAS as a holy book.. Instead of all ships you could state that all ships to which SOLAS is applicable. For example ships less than 500 GT SOLAS is not applicable. Administration issues their own guidelines. Video is awesome.. Great effort and brilliant as usual... Keep going

    Thanks a lot for this very insightful and informative video. I just have one doubt on control systems. Are both the systems connected to ESB? and is there any regulation mandating the same. It may be a dumb question as I am not an engineer :). I am just considering a blackout scenario whereby only one steering motor will be powered from ESB what happens to the control systems in that case?

    • @rmetcvideos
      @rmetcvideos  17 дней назад

      Control systems also will be working in Emergency.Powered from the Bridge Console which will be powered by ESB or Emergency batteries

    1.why it is utmost important to lock the rudder & isolate in case of hydraulic system failure ?
    2.The problems may occur that locking the rudder in heavy weather?
    3.what is meant by single failure concept other than oil leak?

    Sir , I have one doubt in case of safematic if leakage happened in one unit , isolation of that unit takes place . Then the other vd pump can move rudder as per regulation 3.2 or if will take 56 sec ??

    • @rmetcvideos
      @rmetcvideos  2 года назад

      Timing will still be maintained..say 28 secs..but at reduced torque capability.

  • @raviupadhyay3252
    @raviupadhyay3252 2 года назад

    Sir, as far as I have seen on my ships, I saw only 2 types or 4 types of RAM connected each other. Do we still have 4 RAM system with different sets of lines so as to isolate it in the event of any leakage.

    • @rmetcvideos
      @rmetcvideos  2 года назад

      To my knowledge Most of 4 ram steering gears can be isolated....atleast manually...if auyomatic...then it becomes safematic...

  • @fayazali5764

    many thanks sir. What is the significance of 28 sec? why 28 sec what if touches 30. Other question is why from 35 to 30 deg in 28. what is the significance of mentioning these limits. As you are very much aware that the steering gear should be capable of moving the rudder from 35 deg on one side to 35 deg on other side without the restrictions of time. But from 35 to 30 in 28 Sec? .... best regards

    • @rmetcvideos
      @rmetcvideos  17 дней назад

      There is not much difference in poerformance between 30 and 35.If you fit a variable delivery pump..it will not be able to comply if we have 35 to 35..So in order to allow VD pumps this relaxation...

    sir please one video for- why we can not run 4 stroke and 2 stroke engine by 2 or 3 cylinder

    • @rmetcvideos
      @rmetcvideos  3 года назад +3

      Wondering where you got this info that it cannot be done. Many 2 wheelers run on 1 or 2 cylinder engines. As a superintendent , I remember one of my ships was a Gotaverken 3 cylinder engine(Definitely more than 10000 bhp, I cant remember exactly).SO the question should be ..why is not very popular and common. Well, that is Designers problem. As a operational Marine Engineer I never thought so much about these answers (bcoz.,.There are many answers to questions regarding OUR OWN job which we still dont know..ha ..ha...) Having said that , from a commonsense point , I guess, the challenges should be size(either too tall or too broad for comfort), Balancing and vibrations etc.

    Sir what is the meaning of 100% redundancy

    • @rmetcvideos
      @rmetcvideos  2 года назад +3

      A complete breakdown of one equipment shoud not affect the system. Then it is 100 % reduntant.WE have two sea water pumps.Normal operation requires one to be in use. If one breaksdown ..the other on e can be started and there will be no reduction in performance ..This is 100 % reduntant. But suppose there are two steering gear pumps and we need to start both to turn rudder in 28 secs. If one of them is not running, the rudder taked 58 secs. Now this ios not 100 reduntant

    • @anuragrs8422
      @anuragrs8422 Год назад +1

      Thank you for the explanation sir, I want to ask that as you said above that with only one pump rudder movement takes 58 sec then it is not 100% redundant, so this system is 50% redundant?

  • @johnsnow9224

    Sir why it is 35⁰ on one side to 30⁰ on another side, why not 35⁰ on both sides?

    • @DIXITAGGARWAL93
      @DIXITAGGARWAL93 3 года назад +1

      After 65 degrees of total movement , drag force increases and lift forces decreases .
      Hence rudder performance reduces .

      Rudder is supposed to reach 35 on either side..But here we are talking about timing...Thus is because quite a few of the steering gears were using the hunting gear and floating lever servo mechanism and the volume of pumping of the VD pump is almost negligible as the rudder approaches the required rudder angle position. Max effect required is already attained when rudder reached 30 deg but the time taken to teach 35 from 30 would be too much. So the rules are OK as long as the rudder reaches 30 in 28 secs..This decreasing pumping rate is not relevant when the steering gear does not use the VD pump..So the rules were just to accommodate the use of VD pumps
