Hitting A Tennis Overhead In The Air Or Letting It Bounce? Here's How To Decide...

- When you're facing a lob you need to quickly decide whether to hit the tennis smash in the air or whether it's better letting it bounce.
The decision process might be tricky so I've recorded some of the most common situations when facing a lob and demonstrated in which cases I would let the ball bounce and in which cases I would hit it in the air.
You'll also learn what's the best way to deal with topspin lobs and how to deal with slice lobs.
And finally you'll learn why hitting a defensive smash is much better than turning around and lobbing back defensively.

Always appreciate your great coaching videos- thank you so much!
Thank you Thomas ❤️, great insight as always 👍🏻
beautiful instructions once again, thank you!
Great tips as always Tom thanks!
Very good tips!
Thanks Tomaz good tips especially smashing a good lob!
Nice - good advice about playing the defensive smash. It is easy to be too aggressive though and try to do too much with a smash from a good lob that puts you under pressure.
Great video. Hadn't really thought about this, given I usually take it out if the air as otherwise am alwaysin the wrong position if I let it bounce! but also don't want to give the opponent time to recover by letting it bounce either. Thank you for great advice as always!
Thank you very much
Thanks!
Thanks Tomaz for the new video! Could you do a complete tutorial on the backhand slice one day? Thanks :)
Sure, I have a few backhand slice videos in my mind but until then check this one: ruclips.net/video/1WruwNr8CJo/видео.html
I love the statistic data which is greatly helping me to understand and remember which decision or shot i should do in which situation! Where are you getting those statistics from?

Amazing video, as always! Thank you very much! * PS: there's a topic which I'd love to hear your thoughts about: the role of the dominant eye in tennis (and how to position ourselves for the shots depending, on which eye is the dominant one). I know it's something important for any player to consider, but I haven't found too many good comments on that yet...
This is very informative and helpful Tomaz. Thanks a lot. I have also faced much difficulty in playing moonballers when the ball lands deep and my response in all cases is a very week forehand. In a few cases the ball actually went over my head to the fence. Still searching for your suggestion among the lessons. If you can point out the video where you dealt with this topic it will be very helpful. Anyway thanks again.
Hi Prashant, if you get a really high ball behind the baseline then all you can do is to send back a high ball in the same way. There is NOTHING else you can do at recreational level. You need to wait for a shorter ball so that you can open up the angles and start creating something. Also check this video: ruclips.net/video/nkUpjKTzYec/видео.html
Thanks, but can you also talk about when your opponent hits a lob on your backhand side? What are your strategies then?
Hi Tomasz, thank you so much for your effort. I like this video and i have another question for you bro.
Do you have another video where you explain how hit the ball inmediatley after it bounced with the drive or the backhand?
😁👍🥎
I think I show more forehands here but the same principle applies to backhands: ruclips.net/video/mazq4GmkdIU/видео.html
@@feeltennis great. I had seen this video years ago but i didnt remeber it 😅😅😅
It is just what i need. Tu so much
Great video! I have to ask, will there be a follow-up video on retrieving lobs that are just too good and you have to turn and run back? ...maybe touching on the tweener? :)
I don't know what to say besides run back and lob high and deep, that's it. ;) As for tweener, well the probability of winning is probably 1 in 100 and the probability of hurting yourself is close to 90% ;) so I really don't want to share such ideas.
@@feeltennis HAHAHA!! Good answer! Thank you for that and for another really helpful video!
If the ball isn’t too high and you don’t have enough time to prepare for a good overhead, do you suggest going for a forehand or backhand drive out of the air?
Yes, you can go for a drive volley, of course hitting it at a level according to your skill level.
