You guys are both great. Any was my teacher at Nashville Flat picking Camp earlier this year and I'm looking forward to his teaching again in October. Good vid. Keep at it!
I went to Winfield for the 1st time this year (2023), it was a blast!! One day I was sitting at a table eating lunch and Steve Kaufman sat down at the same table... sharing stories of Winfield Past. Saw the flatpick championship... a young man named Ian Ly took 1st, remember that name... I think he said Jake Workman was his teacher. An good ol' John Chapman doing a lotta MC work, handing out the wining instruments. Good lineup of musical acts.
Good job guy's Hey Andy seems I remember being there at Winfield the first year you entered the contest thanks for the picks man and congrat's. Enjoy both you guy's video's
Thanks, Steve! You are one of the best rhythm guitar players I've every played with, and your encouragement that first year was so important for me. Keep picking, and be safe right now. God Bless 🙏
Great video! Got a request, the video of Billy Strings playing Don't Think Twice, it's Alright? He utilises Travis picking I think? It sounds awesome and would love to see your analysis of it! Thanks for the great videos and quality content all the time.
Good chat lads. You kinda caught me with the bit about finding the right guy/info. Kindly permit me a shout out to all those people who in the 1960s pored over Pete Seeger’s red book -How To Play the 5 String Banjo. A $60 Kay banjo. Crappy fingerpicks. No accompanying record. Nothing but grit and a head scratch for hours. Trying to figure it out. To you out there who know, all the best. ( and I think chapter 6 or 7 was the rhumba thing which no one, I mean no one, ever got right. )
Really good demo of escape notes…occurs to me that in G all open strings are from G major pentatonic scale…therefore fruitful idea to assiduously and daringly experiment with string at hand and hear what happens, rather than shedding on transcriptions that use the “approved escapes”! 😅 Jeep
Dude you know immediately that this guy Andy has some primo shit to drop from his eyes. Hes got those crazy eyes man. Those mafkas got nothing to lose they are in it to win it. Thanks Marcel for introducing us to this guy and his world! Hes another type of breed. Just an animal. A khabib of flatpickers legit af. His breakfast would KO a lesser man you can see it in those crazy eyes my man. The doorman at the Salty Spitoon throws down that extra tip money on Huggies Adults just in prep for when guys like Andy walk by him on his smoke break out back. Hes Prince level. Which as a Sotan is the highest possible compliment up here in the North Country. Badasses aint shit compared to a Prince. Nobodys shit compared to Prince. Thats the big dick in the locker room we all gotta cope with. No therapist can help you through that lol but what can is PRACTICE. All day every day practice practice practice how do you get to Carnegie Hall?
Hey, Marcel, man could you check out and transcribe a song called "Woke Up Dreaming" by Joe Bonamassa please? Super please? He isnt bluegrass as far as im aware, but...well just check it out. Its sweet
Question: So, now that you have a youtube channel, do you find yourself being more conscious of liking videos and stuff like that? Idk...i didnt realize how important every single like is to the channel owner till recently when i made my channel. But you have more subscribers than ill probably ever have, so does that wear off after you get momentum like you've got now? With making it a point to like people's videos i mean
Andy is awesome, I love his style and he is a great instructor as well!!!

That first Andy lick that Marcel thinks he recognizes is a lot like the ending tag on Richard Thompson's Tear Stained Letter's main riff....

Where do we go to become members so that we can take advantage of your offers Marcel?
Wait...whats accompanyist? Or whatever that word was that madohat used
You can have a rhythm guitar player (or bass player, I think) but the judges can't hear them. Accompanist = fancy word for dude playing the chords!
Waking up in the morn and then see your dimpled cheeks just brings a ray of sunshine up here in dreary ol' O n t a r i o!
