So here's something that I don't get: Your president and each assistant count as one power each when determining the strength of your action, and your president can only travel to spaces containing at least one assistant. Therefore, the minimum strength of your action is 2. Why then do the locations have information on strength=1 actions?
Looks good. Im getting an Istanbul feel from it, as the board layout is random large tiles and each has a different function, and your main guy plus assisstants power everything. Alot of similarities !
When would you ever use the lowest value. It seems like every time you have an assistant plus your big pawn and the lowest would be two. What am I missing?
When you activate a foreign partner (called a foreign mercenary in the rulebook). If you only have one assistant there, the would only provide you with the lowest value action.
runebound 3rd ed is coming this month. big trouble deckbuilder isn't on my radar at the moment, and i don't think anyone has added it to the request geeklist either: request.rahdo.com
Thanks for the reply Richard, seemed like it might be easy to fill up the 4/5/6/7 spots too quickly, and if somebody tried to do that it might ruin the game experience and the other strategies. Seems like people end up having piles of good in front of them pretty quickly judging by videos I've watched. You can pay 1 of each good to boost your faith by 1 per good, and you already get 1 faith per power on the Church tile. Am I missing something?
LOL i missed the 'read more' :) basically, the game isn't an especially long one. the time it takes to get a big work force onto the church space isn't inconsiderable, plus the time it takes to get a variety of goods, plus the times you'll be blocked by other players to slow you down more, plus the lack of bonuses you'll suffer from by not getting any tech that lets others be more effecient about various functions. it's a viable way to go, but i wouldn't say that it's a guarantee of success :)
not really... shuffle two decks of cards and draw, randomply place the pyramid of location tiles, give everyone their color pieces, and boom you're off! :)
yup, as i said, shuffle 2 decks and draw (i.e. the card rows), and placing the card&chit on each location as you build the pyramid takes approximately 2-3 seconds per location :)
if there was just some dice drafting and a little exploration, this game would literally have every gaming mechanic conceivable. #missedopportunities #NotSureIfGoodOrBadThing.
I'm glad TMG is scouting for games to bring to the US market (Ponzi Scheme, Joraku, etc) BUT: this game clearly could have benefited from some graphical redesign and perhaps some streamlining. The game doesn't feel approachable. All those symbols, colors and chits are just too much. This game is FAR from the elegance of design of Orléans.
i believe it is getting a bit of a graphical overhaul for the TMG deluxe version, but probably not much, as the designer's wife did the all the visual design of the original game...
"The French will love me, oui oui !!" :-D
Mais bien sur qu'on t'aime Rahdo !!
looks fun. I also like the bright colors and the fact that none of the goods look similar like some games (Medici comes to mind right away)

when using the foreign advisor chips for bonus actions, they have no value, so you can end up doing lvl1 actions :)

I'm getting a Le Havre vibe
Looks phenomenal. Miyashi Hayashi is a savage designer.

yup! :)
At 0:35 he points to his assistants and says he has 8, but you can see that he accidentally put a ninth assistant there.
Hey Richard, would you say a german copy of it would be playable for non-german speakers?
I'm assuming some paste-ups would be needed... too many?
it's mostly the cards that would be an issue (as you can see in the vid) :)
Hi Radho, are you going to review any adventure or fantasy games soon? Maybe the new Big trouble in little china deck builder?
runebound 3rd ed is coming this month. big trouble deckbuilder isn't on my radar at the moment, and i don't think anyone has added it to the request geeklist either: request.rahdo.com
Thanks for the feedback = )
Sadly, I don't want to wait till next year for the English copy. Where can I purchase the Japanese version?? I can't seem to find it anywhere =(...
not sure... afaik you can only order it in japan, but i don't know anything about how to do that :(
Question: Couldn't someone just rush the end game by going for Church/Faith spots as fast as possible?
there's no rushing it... it takes a long time to get the goods needed to fill those up :)

when donating to the church, you can't use multiples of the same type of good
I believe that's what I said in my 2nd last sentence :)
LOL i missed the 'read more' :)

Seems like this game would have a pretty long a set up time. Have you found that to be true?
not really... shuffle two decks of cards and draw, randomply place the pyramid of location tiles, give everyone their color pieces, and boom you're off! :)
+rahdo don't you also have to place a card and a chit on every location, put down a row of technology cards, row of contracts, etc?
yup, as i said, shuffle 2 decks and draw (i.e. the card rows), and placing the card&chit on each location as you build the pyramid takes approximately 2-3 seconds per location :)
Rahdo, you seem to really like this one. Any chance it makes your top 100?
it's very very good. it could crack the top100, but need to play it more :)
