I met my biological father when I was 8 and he only would come around when he was drunk, I guess the drinking guilt tripped him on remembering he had a child out there somewhere. After years of getting to know him & seeing his true persona I realized he wasnt there for me but for himself. Until I rejected his drunk visit one day. He just disappeared. No apologies or questioned why I didnt want to him that night. Was I wrong? & mind you my mom not once bad mouth him, I saw everything with my own eyes. My step dad isn't perfect nor has been but he has come through for me my brothers & specially my mom. & now their just roommates but he's still a helping man in our home without him having too.

This moved me deep in my heart as it reminded me of the first time, I called my stepdad "dad." I was 11 years old the year he married my mother and a few weeks after we moved in together, I answered an incoming house phone call and the business caller "said" may I speak with your "dad," so I yelled loudly "DAD" telephone!!! In reflection (like London said) I wanted to call him that all along but didn't know how and had no one to talk to about it prior. My opportunity came that day and continues to present. My "dad" made us respect our bio-father too, although he was inconsistent and not present most of our lives. In 1994, the "superhero" who took on my mother's 6 children and loved us all unconditionally, fell asleep in the arms of God, but he lives in all of my best and happiest memories and in the few tough times "my DAD" stood firm holding us together until the turbulence settled. He is and always will be MY DAD. Thank you for sharing this beautiful moment with us.

I know i wished i could be blessed to come across somebody like him to share my life with. My kids are all grown and they never had their dad in their lives it would've been so awesome if they had had their dad. But it would've been amazing to have a man like this man to give the true meaning to what a dad should be like. As someone whos dad left them at 13/14yrs old bc they "didn't need a daughter" and is currently 25 with a step-dad that has been calling him dad since day 1 of meeting him, this melts my heart! Blood doesn't make family! The little girl in me that is screaming out for her dads attention she never got as a child, love your daughter is comfortable and loving enough to have a stepped up dad!

It is so wonderful to hear how touched and excited he is to have her call him dad I think that is the most beautiful thing there is.
