TRYING TO PROTECT THE BALES MOVING CATTLE & TOPPING FIELDS

  • I didn't paint the bales in previous years but after the disaster I had with silage last year I said I'll chance it and see if I can at least keep the birds away from them.
I moved more cattle as grass was getting tight and I topped where they came out of to keep everything ticking over.

Nice to see another farmer using bale spikes as a pallet fork, the best system I have on my farm is having everything on pallets from digger buckets to IBC crates of timber it makes everything easy

It was a good that you saw the holes in the bales so you could patch them with some tape to keep the air out of the inside of the bales. The cows and calves moved out of the field nicely except for the calf. Topping the fields seems like a great way to stay ahead of the noxious weeds. Your smiles let us know you are happy you have a new calf without having to help the cow with birthing.
    Blessings to you, Karen.

Great result with the cow calving on her own. You’re farming great. Rolling isn’t always the best for levelling fields as hard to get the timing perfect, either 2 wet to travel the field or 2 dry to do any good. Maybe reseeding and a good contractor to landlevel it might be a better plan. Not easy to keep marginal land from getting poached and cut up. Safe farming 👍

Another enjoyable vid as always Karen and I could tell you were very happy that cow managed to calf on it's own and before your parents went of on their holiday, means your dad can relax knowing the calf is happily running around, and all I will say is yes to getting a flat roller and chain harrows as both will be very useful on your farm, and poor ole farmer Phil losing his phone like that be interesting to see what condition it is in if he ever finds it again, and Adrian from IFarm WeFarm paints his silage bales and it certainly seems to help so it should do the same for you as well.
