I enjoy these Loc Talk sessions!! It’s very similar to the Black man Barber 💈 shop discussions. We can let our locs down and discuss important topics and issues in the black communities. Keep these sessions going I will be following. I’m 9 mos Sisterloc’d with fine thin low density locs. Enjoying my journey and my locs are flourishing well.
Aww, glad you're enjoying these talks. I need to check out the barbers one. You're almost a year in your loc journey, YAY! Enjoy every stage because it goes by fast.
On the slave bit they cut our hair so that we could not recognize each other. Each tribe had a different way of styling their hair to show what stage of life they were in. And what class
I love these loc talks. I am an executive in corporate America with bra strap length locs. I also have tattoos and ride motorcycles. I hid that until i proved myself and then i started riding my motorcycle to work on Fridays. I started this job as relaxed and then i big chopped and rocked my natural for 5 years then i loc’d it. I will be 4 years loc’d in Sept and i will die with locs.
I absolutely loved this talk. What a beautiful client/consultat relationship. That's how it always should be. Keep them coming please. Oh and I just ordered my first bonnet, I was afraid you wouldn't ship internationally. Pleasant surprise. I can't wait to receive it. Thank you.
I work at Director level in corporate UK, within HR - my businesses are dominated by white colleagues, certainly at a senior level. That almost made it easier when I got sisterlocks because nobody knew what I had going on, they were totally clueless as their perception of locs is also the thick traditional ones. And to be honest, white people were very complimentary about my hair, fascinated by it almost. Black people on the other hand were really worried about me getting locs in a job like mine, they didn’t think it would be acceptable. They believed it would damage my progress, but it did the opposite. In the workplace, black colleagues would ask if I’d sought permission to loc my hair because they wanted to do the same. It felt good being able to be a positive representation and positively influence hair choices for other women like me. I used to do a lot of travelling etc. in a previous role and locs saved so much time and fuss. We just need better representation of the options available to us.
Sometimes we can hold our own self back. In the beginning of my loc journey, I wore my locs curly so people had no idea I was locd. So happy that you can be that representation for them.
I believe they focus so much on our hair because our hair has the most unique hair texture out of all the races. Most black peoples hair is really curly or so curly it’s kinky and that’s so dissimilar from straight hair. We also do styles that most other races do not do. Our hair is so amazing that in slavery women wove rice into their braids. Our hairstyle before slavery told our status within the tribe and or told a story about our tribe. Black peoples hair is way more than just hair in our culture.
I so love your videos, brilliant idea to do loc talks with your clients and share them. And your hair looks great in this video, so fresh and I love the style pinned to the side. Who reties your hair and how often do you retighten? What do you use in your locs? Haven’t seen a video on moisturising, would you cover that subject in one of your chats please?
Thank you! Will do a video soon about moisturizing and general loc care. My sister and I retighten each others hair and I retighten them every 6 to 7 weeks, sometimes 8 weeks if my schedule is wack. I make and use my own products which are available on my website entoibeauty.com
Sure! I'll eventually do a video just focusing on microlocs in the future. But for now here's a brief overview. Microlocs are just small locs that can be started using the interlocking method, two strand twist, braids or even the coil method (but all will be maintained with the interlocking method). The lock count is typically 250-350 on average. Anything greater than 350 will put you in the sisterlocks category. How small your locs look will depend on the density of your hair. I have clients with less than 250 locs but their hair looks like sisterlocs because they have low density, fine hair. Their loc strands are just as small as someone with high density sisterlocs (if that makes sense). Overall, I always ask clients what do you want your hair to look like (hair inspiration not imitation). Base on their inspiration combined with the density (the amount of strands in an area) of their hair and thickness of their hair, will determine the parting size to give the client the look they want if it suits the hair. I hope all this makes sense. I know it's a lot to consider. The consultation is very important because that sets the foundation for your loc/journey, etc.
What's your thoughts on locking my hair with relaxed ends. My hair is in the middle of my back and my last relaxer was on April 30 so I have a few inches in new growth?!?! Thoughts and advice please
Her hair is so pretty. En Toi, i love your channel and have been watching all your sisterlocks videos, and your hair is gorgeous. I’m nine months into my sisterlocks journey. (I have brotherlocks, because i’m a guy) I will say, I disagree with her on some things one of them being I love people touching my hair 🤣. Get your hands up in here. I’ll be mad if you don’t. Don’t even ask, just touch me all up in there 🤣
😆 🤣 😂 I know exactly what you mean. It is so soothing to have someone play with your hair. I be wanting my retie session to last forever. But I can't just have any ol person in my head, though

Thanks for this and your other informative videos. Please let your guest know that the Daily Affirmations in my latest book "Dear Beautiful: A Self-Empowerment Book for Black Women" may be useful to her daughter. Your guest and her daughter will enjoy using colored pencils to color the affirmations as they say them.
Aww, thank you for watching and subscribing! I just ordered my copy of your book. I'll be sure to pass the info on to my guest. Looking forward to reading it and will probably do a segment on it on this channel. Thank you for sharing!
@@EnToiBeauty That is very sweet of you. Thanks a million and may God continue to bless you and your work! BTW: God willing, my Sisterlocks establishment will begin on August 19th!!! I will keep watching your channel and will tell others about it.

To add on to what this lady is saying about slaves hair being cut....They also cut the slaves hair to use as stuffing for pillows/furniture.

It is truly up to us to love and embrace our hair. We have to teach the younger generation to do so and not let others say otherwise.
