The late goal by Danault: Campbell goes down on his glove side with his skate to the post, so there is a skate blade + bladeholder sized gap between the post and the bottom of Jack's skate which is exactly where Danault put it. If he gets the boot of the pad to the post with his skate basically tucked beside/behind the puck doesn't have any gap to get through(it may still have had enough juice to his the pad and gone up/over and in depending on how high it hits and the angle). Lots of goalie like to use the post as leverage when pushing off and I think the habit is skate/blade to post and you see these goals go in sometimes. This is like off the hip goals in RVH. You're just not completely to the post so there are gaps and holes the puck can find to get it or go in off you. Campbell had a great game, this is not about how well he played, but if anyone wondered how it went in(Craig Simpson had no clue) that's how.

If you see this, would love to hear your answer in the next LFR... what's your opinion on Keefe being a too much of a player's coach and seemingly trying to help player's set personal milestones compared to helping the team win? My best example of this is Keefe putting the Matthews line out for the face-off after the time-out that led to the game-tying goal. Matthews isn't the strongest option at centre, and he was only winning 43% of face-offs in the game and Keefe sent him out with the intention of winning the face-off on his weak side and helping him get the empty net goal for goal #40 on the year. He seems to play Matthews a lot when it's an empty net just to try to help him hit the milestone. Tavares was at 58% that game in face-offs I believe, and Spezza was around 35% but has been very good in defensive zone face-offs all season and that's his strong side, so wouldn't it make more sense to send out one of those 2 guys if you're trying to win? Love the commitment to every video, keep up the incredible work!
That was actually my biggest issue of the whole game at first, even the broadcasters were openly questioning it and I was dumbfounded why he'd do that and thought it was skirting the line of bad coaching(if Matthews scores it's a good call, or... yeah) and I was a bit upset how it went but then I remembered that was an almost meaningless game for the Leafs so there's no reason to get my knickers in a bunch about it. If the Leafs were battling for a playoff slot and Keefe did that and cost the team a point then yeah I'd be pretty damn upset but honestly Mathews possibly netting his 40th and the accolade he was robbed of last season WAS like 95% of the meaning for that game IMO so I ultimately was fine with taking the chance. And I mean it's Auston fucking Matthews, next to maybe McJesus, Ovechkin or Crosby is there any other player you'd trust more with that chance? Sad it didn't work out, he'll get it next game.
I think that there should be a rule for OT, similar to ball possession in the NBA, once you have possession of the puck in offensive zone, you can't bring it back across the center line into your own end. This would help eliminate the keep away game and make the OT more about scoring again.
Maybe if he did he could of caused a turnover and win the game? Leafs fans saying Habs played a boring OT game while the Leafs just sat on their ass. As soon as the Leafs had the puck a Habs player jumped them and got the puck back.
He is single handedly saving Bergevin's job. If Caufield isn't scoring these OT winners, we have a first round matchup against the leafs. They would probably smoke us and that would be it for Berg.
Dear Steve, Please stop being so humble in a loss against your rivalry teams. You're making me question if im supposed to hate the leafs or not anymore. Sincerely, a Habs fan. PS : Great video, as usual.
The game meant way more to the Habs than the Leafs. I mean the main reason why the 2-on-0 missed was because Marner was trying to give Matthews his 40th more than winning the game. That just doesn’t happen in an important game.
@@seanmcdaniel142 buddy, I'm not saying Habs are a lock to win because Leafs are a hell of a team this year, but with Weber, Price, Gallagher and Tatar back, it's gonna be super interesting
First trip on Anderson was an obvious trip though... That's called every time. It's not we don't see Hyman falling all over the ice for no apparent reason and we get PPs for that all the time haha.
Also as much as people may say otherwise. Jake Allen is no slouch. Just goes to show kids, if you mind the net you have a shot at stopping a full strength 2 on 0 vs Marner and Matthews.
I will never forgive the Flyers for not taking caufield because they literally gifted the goal lacking canadiens a goalscorer. Caufields the only player on the habs that scares me when he gets the puck and philly gave him to them for free
Toffoli has 28 goals, josh anderson has 17, and Suzuki is going to be a star mate. Bruh actually pay attention if you're going to make comments like that.
Steve isn’t mad cause he knows the maple Laffs will have their first round exit as always ahaha, btw Habs fan subbed here :) love your videos honestly :) also these games have nothing to do with that loss to a team that had a month off lol
We have better chirps we just aren't wasting them on the leafs in the regular season. We have playoffs to worry about finally. We are saving our best stuff for then.
Steve is too likable to do nasty chirps against. Although if he keeps sobbing that our players dove after their players literally went crying to their agents that the Habs crossed check too hard and wasn't letting them crash the net. Then I'll lose all credibility for him. He saved himself by somewhat condoning the T.J. Brodie slash.
I like how Steve defends Mikheyev in SDP and the just whoopsie forgets to mention that awful turn over of his trying to shoot for the empty net through the mtl dman. How much soup is he paying you?
I'm not a leafs fan. I'm not a hater either I would say through Steve I "follow" leafs hockey. LFR videos can be so hilarious. Sometimes these videos specifically are a highlight of my day. "New rule YOU'RE GROUNDED" Hilarious.
I wish most fans were like you about last nights game. I have groups on fb started bashing everyone but Matthews. This was one game and still got a point.
Even the analytic sites like moneypuck actually said that tanking the game would improve the Leaf's playoff chances. It actually went up by a few fractions of a percent if they lost the game, and it actually went down by a few fractions of a percent if they won the game. It was very unusual to see red text for winning and green text for losing lol. The analytics sites really do think they have a better first round chance against Winnipeg.
I've said this in a few places now but that OT play from the habs, and for acknowledgement they aren't the first team to do it or do it VS the leafs, rivals when the NHL decided to remove the 2 line pass rule because of the way the devil created the neutral zone trap. I can see a rule change being made for OT 3V3 similar to basketball because of that strategy they used. 1) a shot clock which forces either a scoring chance or a change of possession roughly ever 30 seconds. 2) the backcourt rule (in this case likely the red line [ center ice] although I'd love the offensive blue line personally). The backcourt rule basically prevents a team from crossing back over half court with possession of the ball once they have passed their side of half court. I personally think that would work exceptionally well in OT hockey as a rule set (not playoffs). Think about it, OT 3v3 was meant to be fun, river hockey where more games end there then go to shootouts. So by forcing a team to have to play on offense, or at least dump it in and chase, make fancy plays at the blue line to evade defenders - it all results in more exciting hockey: more dekes, more hits, more shots, more goals!
Mentions anderson going down easy I've never seen Simmonds fall so easily on that toffoli penalty. It's part of hockey idek why you'd point out one dive and not the other
So I can say that I have lived when Leafs and The Habs ie ( the toilet seats) played in the playoffs together. And back then we did our chirping face to face not this social media chirping with emojis. Can't wait bring them on.
Dude Caufield AGAIN. 2 GOALS IN HIS CAREER AND 2 GAME WINNING GOALS IN HIS CAREER. Marner could have WON THE DANG GAME all he had to do was pass the puck to auston matthews and this game is in the books. And bro that goal by Caufield should not have gone in. And nick foligno limps off the ice JUST GREAT hyman still out we don't need more injuries 🙄. And the leafs rivalry between them and the habs is even worse the blood is BAD REALLY REALLY BAD ok its SUPER clear that they hate each other and don't even get me started on the series against the jets that was a nasty 3 games that series was fines and hits anyways leafs better come back and beat these habs and matthews right there for 40 goals but if he gets 50 Wooooo weeeee that'll be nice 👌

I’m sorry but that play by Marner in OT was one of the worst I’ve seen. Not even a shot on a 2 on 0 like cmon he’s got to shoot that instead of passing on the goal line
If I had a choice, I'd have the Leafs play the Jets in the 1st round followed by the Habs in the 2nd round. If I were the Leafs I would rather play Montreal in round 2 instead of round 1.

Can't wait to watch that first round exit
I dont know, montreal could give Edmonton trouble
I think that there should be a rule for OT, similar to ball possession in the NBA, once you have possession of the puck in offensive zone, you can't bring it back across the center line into your own end. This would help eliminate the keep away game and make the OT more about scoring again.
I like the cerebral approach you're taking here Steve. What you say/yell is so true.
in OT Mathews just skated around his blue line .While Montreal when back and forth .He wasn't wasting his energy
Maybe if he did he could of caused a turnover and win the game? Leafs fans saying Habs played a boring OT game while the Leafs just sat on their ass. As soon as the Leafs had the puck a Habs player jumped them and got the puck back.
Is Caufield gonna save Bergevin’s job for another year?
Indeed hopefully
Probably
He is single handedly saving Bergevin's job. If Caufield isn't scoring these OT winners, we have a first round matchup against the leafs. They would probably smoke us and that would be it for Berg.
Not unless Montreal goes to round 2 or 3. Can't see it.
People actually think Bergevin's job is at risk? 🤔
Dear Steve,
Please stop being so humble in a loss against your rivalry teams. You're making me question if im supposed to hate the leafs or not anymore.
Sincerely, a Habs fan.
PS : Great video, as usual.
Wait a second, did Steve not make a video for the Kirill Semyonov signing
The game meant way more to the Habs than the Leafs. I mean the main reason why the 2-on-0 missed was because Marner was trying to give Matthews his 40th more than winning the game. That just doesn’t happen in an important game.
Excuses excuses
I was watching the Montreal Ottawa game when it was in ot and they did the same keep away thing
I'm now scared about having to face Montreal in the playoffs
Why
@@goleafsgo5961 Dunno, game seven or something
Hahaha I'm not. At all.
@@seanmcdaniel142 buddy, I'm not saying Habs are a lock to win because Leafs are a hell of a team this year, but with Weber, Price, Gallagher and Tatar back, it's gonna be super interesting
Doesn’t matter if it’s the jets habs or flames it’s gonna be a first round exit anyway
Cole Caufield has scored 0 5v5 goals in his first few games
Matthews had 4 in his first game...
Facts
Nobody compares those two tho y’all call him trash for no reason
@@patricks251 Trust me, we are involved in the hockey world heavily and they are compared hard
Take that Habs fans
THANK YOU. people are comparing him to me. pshhhhh.
Since the habs starting playing keep away in overtime, they have won 4 straight, prior they lost 9 straight
Who else is kinda nervous playoffs is almost 2 weeks away
I said before his first game imagine he scores in overtime, he didn’t but I mean I’ll take it 😂
this is a surprisingly mature version of yourself.
"New rule YOU'RE GROUNDED"
Hilarious.
your arrogance will come back to bite the leafs
The cup that really matters is mr Stanley what every hockey dreams of Matthew sees his dream in the side view mirror
Habs played mostly 'keepaway' with the puck in overtime to keep it away from Auston Matthews. That won't work in the playoffs.
Marner always passing to Matthews on a breakaway won’t work either
Why not?
You realized there is no 3 on 3 in playoffs. It's a regular season tactics
@@georgeblair3894 Because there's no 3 on 3 overtime in the playoffs.
Welp... we didn’t even need to lol
Nylander as good as he is offensively he is a liability in the final minutes and overtimes.
I love you Steve, but your reaction to the Kapanen call is what us Habs fans have experienced all season long, let us have this one xD
I wish most fans were like you about last nights game. I have groups on fb started bashing everyone but Matthews. This was one game and still got a point.
The cold opens on losses are always hilarious, well done Steve
NHL players are too cool to stick handle caufield doesn’t stop stick handling and it works
Then why can't he score 5 on 5?
It's like 4 games calm down lol. That kid is nothing special
@@mitchsmith7472 you have no idea what you’re talking about
@@mitchsmith7472 I’m a Canadian leafs fan I have no chips in the kid but he will pull 25-35 goals if he gets bigger so that’s kinda special
Lmao huh
Even the analytic sites like moneypuck actually said that tanking the game would improve the Leaf's playoff chances. It actually went up by a few fractions of a percent if they lost the game, and it actually went down by a few fractions of a percent if they won the game. It was very unusual to see red text for winning and green text for losing lol. The analytics sites really do think they have a better first round chance against Winnipeg.
Leafs gonna lose to the Jets in the 1st round.
You wish
Psst, the Jets haven't clinched a playoff spot yet.
@@junioruncle4378 Psstt.. took St Louis a long while to clinch then win the cup lol
@@oldskool1979 Psst, the Jets aren't the Blues, but if you want to dream, dream big. Good luck.
It's part of hockey idek why you'd point out one dive and not the other
GOAL CAUFIELD BABYYY
Steve in here telling Leafs fans to chill out lmao
Oh how the turntables
Dude! Those therapy sessions are really starting to work for you!! Kudos!!
So I can say that I have lived when Leafs and The Habs ie ( the toilet seats) played in the playoffs together.
And back then we did our chirping face to face not this social media chirping with emojis.
Can't wait bring them on.
Despite the OT goal, Jack robbed so many Habs breakaways.
What is it, Steve. Is the parade on or off? I forget what day's are on and which are off!
Steve telling people to Chill in this video on the 2 on 0. Body snatchers have already invaded and replaced Steve. Where is Steve Dangle and what have you don with him?!?!?!
10:00 You should have said "I'm not a veterinarian." lmao
I’m sorry but that play by Marner in OT was one of the worst I’ve seen. Not even a shot on a 2 on 0 like cmon he’s got to shoot that instead of passing on the goal line
I'm sorry. I'm a Flames fan from the US who thought losing to the Canucks was a really bad sign but I'm sorry
If I had a choice, I'd have the Leafs play the Jets in the 1st round followed by the Habs in the 2nd round. If I were the Leafs I would rather play Montreal in round 2 instead of round 1.
Steve, you should read Leafs fans comments toward Boston and Habs fans. They are all exactly the same thing. Social media fans are all unoriginal... including Leaf fans..
Enjoy watching your game recaps just learned today the leafs haven't beaten the Bruins since 1958-59 season in the playoffs think it has been longer for beating the Habs 😄😄🏒
So on the last LFR video after a Leafs loss, I commented that I hoped the Leafs lost every game for the rest of the year because these videos are way more entertaining after losses. Since that post, I believe Steve's Leafs have a point in every game and my Jets...well, you know.
I, therefore, would like to issue an apology to both the universe and Steve. Can we go back to normal now please?
a fan of the team featuring Matthews' stache has no business talking about horrible viewer experience
Dude, he's obviously hurting after lasts night game. You really got to burn him so badly too. Nice one!
Overtime needs a reform. It’s gotten so boring just seeing zero pressure and everybody circle back
Imagine having the year the Leafs had, and losing in 5 to Montreal in round 1
imagine it's game 7 and leafs are up 4-1
edit: in the 3rd
