There are some sources that claim that Skanderbeg also pillaged serbia when Brankovic blocked his advance to Hunyadi. Which would make sense if the Ottoman claim that Slanderbeg eventually made it to the battlefield is true. He most likely entered serbia forcefully and pillaged it on the way in and out of Kosovo.
If your claim it’s true and Scanderbeg himself would been able to join Huniyadi at the battle I can assure you today would be second sultan tomb at the site. Not only one as you can see today.
@@gametestinglab8861 the ottoman sources stated that Skanderbeg made it to the battlefield, but by the time he got there the battle was pretty much over and he decided to retreat back
maybe it was the worst in terms of missed potential, if we dismiss varna 1444 due to those western knights' hubris. a 'what if' scenario where he could unite with Skanderbeg and Serbia and Venice is on their side would be interesting
It was a mixture of he knew what to do against the Ottomans but presumed his older tactics would work but didn't execute it well. Plus Murad figured out how to fight him. Similar to know everyone knew how to beat Napoleon after a certain point. (also saw this video 16h ago too)
Serbia, Branković 🇷🇸 betrayed Hunyadi & Scanderbeg, so after blocking him to join Hunyadi, to fight the Ottomans, Scanderbeg burned down Serbian villages as revenge.
I always claimed Murad II was the best sultan Ottomans had. Perhaps tied with Murad I or Orhan. All the following ones already had the best war machine of the time under their hands. Great video but I take it with a grain of salt whenever Ottomans casually lose 10.000-20.000 troops due to harsh terrain and local peasant ambushes. Local priest sources exaggerated these losses all the time to satisfy their anger. Anatolia was far less populated and Ottomans already had a limited pool of manpower due to Christians outnumbering Muslims in their lands.(you cant enlist non-muslims as soldiers which is why they pay jizya, this rule had exceptions Ottomans did grant timars to old military elites in the lands they conquered)
Some medieval sources claims that the Ottoman army was around 100,000 in the Siege of Kruja and the the casualties were 20,000 just during the retreat. The fact that the author of this video reduces those number to almost one third, tells us that those 10.000-20.000 Ottoman casualties are likely real and not exaggerated. It looks like you are doing the same thing as those supposed local priests, reducing the numbers of casualties in order to satisfy your emotions ;)
@@firefoxlani7475 If we put up all the numbers claimed by Europeans in every battle it makes more population than China. Anatolia was always a desolate barren place and half the population was Christian anyway. The math doesnt add up. Just because your priests were even more shameless liars doesnt mean there were that many casualties. If such casualties were suffered Ottomans would have crumbled. They were still recovering from Timurs Ankara victory. Ankara battle shows one defeat could be paralyzing unlike what European fat liars claim.
Michael Critobulus thought and wrote otherwise. And he is one of the most esteemed sources of information since not only he was a serious scholar, but he was a contemporary WITNESS of Murad and Mehmet wars.
Some people asked the reason for Iskenderbeg's success. Iskenderbeg was given as a hostage to Sultan Murad II by his father. He was educated by the Ottomans. He was successful because he knew the Ottomans very well.
It's really wild just how many successful and ingenious military/poltical figures all existed in the same era in the same general region. Hunyadi, Skanderbeg, Mehmed II, Vlad Tepes, the whole Brankovic clan (especially Mara)
Serbs were the reason for the the loss of both Battles of Kosovo and were one of the main helpers to Ottomans of why Constantinople fell and now act like they're holier than thou.
@@baruto1353 It does. It was Brankovich who left the battle and created an opening for the Ottomans to break the coalition Balkan army to lose. His father-in-law, Lazar, who was the head leader for the Serbs dies and many other leaders of coalition army including Skanderbeg's grandfather who was part of this coalition. After this loss, the Brankoviches made a deal with Ottomans and gave their daughter Mara for wife and became their vassals. As you can see even in the 2nd battle of Kosovo, Brankovich again sabotages the battle by giving information to his son-in-law the Sultan against Hunyadi and Skanderbeg who had joined to removed the Ottomans once and for all from the Balkans. The pillage in the Serbs village was not done by Hunyadi like this show says, but Skanderbeg, because Brankovich didn't allow him to pass through to join Hunyadi. The 2nd battle of Kosovo was much bigger, cause it lasted 3 days, while the 1st one that is celebrated by Serbs lasted not even a day, because many of the heads of the Balkan coalition and Sultan Murad were killed and that's why is more mentioned.
@@dios1ish868 Firstly, Brankovic only fled when the left flank under the Bosnians was defeated by Bayezid and his cavalry. Brankovic was the one who did by far the most against the Ottomans in the first battle of Kosovo. Mara was not given to the Ottomans after the first battle of Kosovo because she was not even born at the time. Olivera was given by the Hrebeljanović to the Ottomans, which was necessary to form an alliance because the Bosnians and Hungarians were acting against Moravia-Serbia. Your third statement makes no sense because it doesn't make sense with the time intervals, how can Skanderbeg plunder Serbia before the battle if the passage was blocked and why should Brankovic then arrest Hunyadi (if according to you it wasn't him) with the certainty of that Relations with Hungary would deteriorate considerably. I'm not writing anything about your fourth statement because it's irrelevant to the conversation.
@@baruto1353 This is not what the history says about the Brankovich. Oh, much better, Mara was another trophy to the Sultan to make the alliance continuous and stronger. You are saying that they made alliance with Ottomans, because they wanted to protect themselves, which is fine, but that not the propaganda they spread today. It happened before the battle started, because Skanderbeg asked to pass through to join Hunyadi and Brankovich denied him, so Skanderbeg pillaged some of the territories turning back.
@@dios1ish868 "This is not what history says about the Brankovich" Then finally prove it to me. "It happened before the battle started, because Skanderbeg asked to pass through to join Hunyadi and Brankovich denied him, so Skanderbeg pillaged some of the territories turning back." However, I wrote more about this that you ignored. Also, you didn't address my argument about the first battle of Kosovo.
Ottomans wasted a lot of armies for some castles like zigetvar and kruje. Until 1600s facing Ottomans on open fields is kinda polish cavalry attack against Panzers. Hunyadi try first flanks but later central position. Each side was like black hole. Mohac was perfect example --> if you attack middle your armys will melt. Until then only scourge earth tactics work on Ottomans but German Napoleon Eugène of Savoy kinda reveal Ottoman enigma war machine. Later on technological disadvantages and ethnic clashes ended Empire.
the Ottoman Army was one of the first armies, who used fire weapons And than the religious leaders (ulema) said "oh, don´t use the same weapons like the gavurs!" So the Ottoman Army didn´t develop their weapons and tactics! But the european armeis (eugen from savoy, napoleon....) they did! And that was the difference!
thank you so much for the video, the ottoman empire is one of my favorite empires. Yes please upload a video on the conquest of Constantinople. can't wait.
So ottomans fight Scanderbeg for 25 years and never ever were able to defeat him in battle despite outnumbering him in every battle he lead and participated.
He mostly resorted guerilla Warfare. He was like Taliban. guerilla Warfare inflict very little casualties to enemy but it enables user to drag the war for years. That's what Skanderbeg and Talban jointly did. I think it isn't impressive tactic at all.
@@Asterix958 Try to read some scholar of the time and see what did they wrote about "small casualties". The fact that Ottomans did have a LARGE number of casualties angered so much Mehmet (the son of Murad) that he ordered his armies to unleash their fury upon the Albanian population. One of the scholars, Michael Critobulus in his writing calls Scanderbeg's people - ILLYRIANS - .
If you are gonna take the claims Albanian/European primary sources as truthful then you should take Ottoman primary sources as such as well. According to them(Histories of Kemalpaşazade and Dursun Bey), just before the 3rd Siege of Kruje Skanderberg led a disasterous night attack against the invading Ottoman army led by Sultan Mehmed which was repelled with heavy casualties on the Albanian side. This is likely the reason for why in the remainder of the Ottoman campaign much of Albania was burnt without efficent resistance, as most of the field army was defeated with only garrisons remaining
Interesting video, if you are going to make a one video documentary out of early ottoman series I would suggest that you redo the parts which would be around Battle of Maritsa and improve the borders in earlier videos when you compile them into documentary
@@Wodan0290 It has quite a lot of mistakes map-vise and Battle of Maritsa video has a ton of issues: Serbian situation is barely even mentioned and it just reduced to "Uros was uncompitant so Uros effectively replaced him as a co ruler" this also led to another mistake that was compleately wrongly depicted path that Serbian army took, instead of Vukasin camping near Skadar to finish off noble Nikola Altomanovic and then leading his army to Serres to meet up with his brother Ugjesa and then marching to Thrace he is depicted going near Sofia with (overexaggerated) 50k troops. Also the mention of Battle of Serbian destruction of 1364 that was made up by latter Ottoman sources as a reason why Vukasin led his army into Thrace is also not accurate.

Murad II. The most underated ottoman sultan, a very able and successful sultan.
Murad II , who twice abdicated , was the most engaging character among all the sultans , a great warrior but also a great lover of the arts and philosophy .

Next episode of this series should be magnificent. @KingsandGenerals there are high expectations for the next episode of this series from Turkish people from Türkiye and Turkish diaspora from all around the world. So far this has been a very good series and and I think many Turkish people will agree with me. @@Briandervishi Yeah. Wars are won by playing to ones strength. Not fairly. Skanderberg used guerrilla and scorched earth tactics.

Interesting series of lessons for Hunyadi. Don't know what the consensus is, but it feels to me like he was well below his best in this campaign.
maybe it was the worst in terms of missed potential, if we dismiss varna 1444 due to those western knights' hubris. a 'what if' scenario where he could unite with Skanderbeg and Serbia and Venice is on their side would be interesting
It was a mixture of he knew what to do against the Ottomans but presumed his older tactics would work but didn't execute it well. Plus Murad figured out how to fight him. Similar to know everyone knew how to beat Napoleon after a certain point. (also saw this video 16h ago too)
Nobody is aknowledging the fact that he was betrayed by Brankovics?

@@firefoxlani7475
If we put up all the numbers claimed by Europeans in every battle it makes more population than China.

Serbs were the reason for the the loss of both Battles of Kosovo and were one of the main helpers to Ottomans of why Constantinople fell and now act like they're holier than thou.
doesnt even makes sense
"Oh, much better, Mara was another trophy to the Sultan to make the alliance continuous and stronger" No, the alliance no longer existed after the death of Bayezid. "It happened before the battle started, because Skanderbeg asked to pass through to join Hunyadi and Brankovich denied him, so Skanderbeg pillaged some of the territories turning back." Ottomans wasted a lot of armies for some castles like zigetvar and kruje. Later on technological disadvantages and ethnic clashes ended Empire.
the Ottoman Army was one of the first armies, who used fire weapons
And than the religious leaders (ulema) said "oh, don´t use the same weapons like the gavurs!"
So the Ottoman Army didn´t develop their weapons and tactics!
But the european armeis (eugen from savoy, napoleon....) they did!
And that was the difference!

He mostly resorted guerilla Warfare. He was like Taliban. guerilla Warfare inflict very little casualties to enemy but it enables user to drag the war for years. That's what Skanderbeg and Talban jointly did. I think it isn't impressive tactic at all.
@@Asterix958 you have shit for brains 🧠!!!

What was the problem with the earlier videos?
@@Wodan0290 It has quite a lot of mistakes map-vise and Battle of Maritsa video has a ton of issues:
Serbian situation is barely even mentioned and it just reduced to "Uros was uncompitant so Uros effectively replaced him as a co ruler" this also led to another mistake that was compleately wrongly depicted path that Serbian army took, instead of Vukasin camping near Skadar to finish off noble Nikola Altomanovic and then leading his army to Serres to meet up with his brother Ugjesa and then marching to Thrace he is depicted going near Sofia with (overexaggerated) 50k troops.
Also the mention of Battle of Serbian destruction of 1364 that was made up by latter Ottoman sources as a reason why Vukasin led his army into Thrace is also not accurate.
