So this is what my build out looks like thanks to your inspiration (bike ordered and parts on the way)! : swapping out boxxer 180mm 27.5" lowers for Boxxer 180mm 29" lowers to achieve the mullet, changing to a Sram GX Eagle 10-52t drive train, going with Magura MT7 Pro brakes, upsizing rotors to Magura MDR-P 220mm, Oneup 180mm dropper post, Oneup aluminum flat peddles. Thanks again for the inspiration!
Always great to see you ride! Awesome shots and very inspiring. I just sold my 19 Levo Expert and bought a 20 Kenevo this Fall and love the bike for the confidence it gives me. I always loved rough terrain but didn't feel too comfortable there on the levo. Now just had my dealer ordering me a fox 49 + 29" front wheel.. Cant wait for winter to go by. Ice sucks.. Cheers from central switzerland - where the kenevo was engineered 😉👍🏻
So cool man! you will love it. You might want to try to pull the travel on the fork down to 190mm. 203 is a lot with that big wheel, and not recommended. Have fun!
your bike is my dream build but for now im enjoying my 2020 build with swapped out to 29er lowers on my boxxers and 29er wheels front and back on 35mm inner carbon wheels.
The one thing he couldnt change is the shit unreliable motor and battery system. Brose is a joke they fail on every bike sometimes 6 times in 1 year lol
Hey Marshal. Nice build. I got the same this year and it came with a FOX38. Axle to crown on that 38 is very long compare to a Boxxer 27.5 and bring it close to 63⁰ out of the box. I replace the lowers for a 29 lowers and drop the travel to 170mm. Rides good but still around 62.5⁰ head. On paper the fox 40 dropped at 190mm would actualy have a lower axle to crown distance and drop the front/steepen the head. How's yours feel? Any axle to crown number? Cheers.
have a friend who installed a 2021 fox x2 air shock and found it hits the frame on compression and looks like your shock has a mark on it as well. did you notice this as well on your bike.
Great upgrades. I also have an expert S4 and have been toying with the idea of upgrading to the fox 29 front end. Have already upgrade to Saint brakes, One Up 35 x 35 Carbon bars, Rockshock Reverb Stealth 175mm dropper. This is a great bike out of the box and extremely capable. How have you found the new front end with low speed tight turns?
Cool to hear you have one! you must love it. The new front end makes it a little harder in tight corners, but only the really tight ones. It is very stable at high speeds so it makes up for it.
Hi Dave, good question. I did not. I went to a 44mm offset. But, Im not really convinced that is better. I only did that because that is what was in stock. The difference is so minor, you will not notice it. I wouldn't worry about it.
Hi Marshall, Wow your custom build has inspired me so much that I just ordered a Kenevo! Can you please answer a few question on your build: 1) how much did you move the triple clamp down on the fork tubes to maintain the geometry; 2) did you lose some of of the travel due to the shift down with the triple clamps; 3) Did you up size the brake rotors, in a number of reviews the rotor size is called out for bing to small/not powerful enough, what are your thoughts. I see that rockshox offers a 180mm boxer in a 29" wheel format in both select and ultimate. If I can get one retail I'll go this route. Thank you for any help you can offer and thank you for the great inspirational videos!!
Hi Dave. Thanks for the nice message. I am so glad my build helped you make a decision. You will love the bike. 1) I moved them as far as I possibly could without the tire hitting the frame. It does at a certain point 2) No, the only loss in travel is internal in the fork, where I cut it to 180mm 3) I did not, however I would like to do that. I think it would help!
Hi Marshall! I saw your inspiring video like two years too late😂. But I loved so much I just bought a second hand Kenevo 2020 to give it a try! Would you be so kind to just advice if I can swap the boxxer select RC 27,5 original with the same but 29 (200mm travel that I can reduce Easily to 180) with same success without changing the geometry? Thanks anyhow and greetings from the Alps!
That's a slick looking machine, can the fox 40's take a 29'r or do you have to get the 49's? The big ken is a pretty mean bike standard but quite low spec for its price. You have pretty much replaced everything bar the seat!
Marshall I know you get a heap of questions regarding the specialized e mtb bikes and e bikes in general.. If you have the time I would so appreciate your assistance in getting the right info from yourself regarding the specialized Kenevo 2020 model. I'm a tall guy, 6'5 (195cm) & wiegh in generally between the 105 to 110 kg. My ideal bike is the kenevo and suits my riding style yet am not sure if the Kenevo will hold my weight plus pack etc.. Marshall would you kmow the rider WIEGHT limit of the larger (S6?) size of the 2020 kenevo and if so I'm looking forward to riding it and setting it up similar to the set up you've got running on your 2020 kenevo. Thanks. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Neale, to upgrade to AXS, you might need to change the rear wheel depending on your model of bike. The AXS cassette requires an XD compatible hub body. So just make sure your rear hub is XD compatible.
@@MarshallMullen1 great video and great mod to the bike; if I'm not wrong you now have a 12v cassette instead of the supplied 11v, did you had to make any changes apart of the rear derailleur to accomodate a 12v cassette? I'm seriously thinking to buy this bike and honestly the only think I'd like to change is drivetrain (it's not acceptable a 11v on a €7.000 bike in 2020...). Thanks
Hi, I'm thinking of building something similar with kenevo frame. But can I just buy a frame, motor and battery? what is the cost of using the same suspension and equipment you have? Finally, what has it cost you in total? BR / Eddie
While I not the maker of this video I think Ivan shed some light on the build cost. For a non sponsored guy if you have to buy the bike and then build it up from there I'm seeing around $13,0000. That's before tax. You could buy the comp version for about $5500 since your going to change out the suspension and drive train and save about $3000. You would get a 504 watt hour battery instead of the 700 watt hour battery though. It would come out a little lighter to do to the smaller battery. As long as you keep your rides within 35-40 miles you would be fine.
Marshall, looking to do some of these upgrades to my 20 Kenevo. I want to try the 38 29er at 180 and see how that works. My only question is what size X2 do you recommend? 230x60 or 230x65 as they seem to be the only options from Fox.
@@MarshallMullen1 i already have the L, but the new ones are size S1, S2, S3,S4,S5 i try the S4 and i thing its a little bit larger and the S3 its smaller, i want to buy the new one but im not sure of the size i also have the fox40 on the kenevo its a huge upgrade.
Im kind of confused . All new turbo kenevo are mullet like the the turbo levo from 2020., Or you modify the frame geometry replacing puting 29 wheel front and 27.5 rear.
I think a FOX 38 at 180 29 might be a little too much for this bike. With the 40, you can slide the crowns down to make room. But you cant on the 38. If you go 38, I would stick with 27.5
Great review, thanks! Interesting mods. But can we please stop calling dual-crown forks, "triple-clamp forks"? Even single crown forks have a "triple clamp", clamping the left leg, steerer tube, and right leg. Sorry, pet peeve.
What I basically did was spend 8 grand on a kenova.. Take it home.. Took the grips off .. Kept them... Threw the bike in the bin... Spent another 5 grand.. And built my own bike

How do you get a 180mm Fox 49 fork? Would like to go Mullet on my Kenevo, but am stuck on this first step

Great Vid thx have a 2020 kenevo and just thinking about a few upgrades this gives me lots more idees 💪🤙 Cheers
Whats the weight overall ? Great looking bike ,,, X2 float need a special eyelet ?
26 kgs /57 lbs aproximately

So the frame is compatible with the Triple clamp fork? No warranty issues ? I don’t see any frame protection beyond the fork pads

What is your axle to crown measurement with the FOX 49 setup?
Any problems with the x2 shock blowing? I blew mine 4 times in 8 months leaving the rebound dampening non existent. Very dangerous!
Truly awesome build. Did you have to modify the wheels to fit on the Fox 49? With the 20mm hub? If so, pls help since I’d like to do the same. Thanks
Yes I did. The front hub will need to be changed to allow for a boost 20mm hub.
Hi Marshall, Can you please help me with one more question. Did you keep the same fork offset when you swap to the Fox fork? Thank you!
Hi Dave, good question. I did not. I went to a 44mm offset. But, Im not really convinced that is better. I only did that because that is what was in stock. The difference is so minor, you will not notice it. I wouldn't worry about it.
@@MarshallMullen1 You can't actually get a 29" fork with a 37mm offset. 44mm is the lowest.
so is the Fox 49 made to 180mm available to the public to purchase?
Afraid not, but there should be an conversion kit to make it a 190mm
