You can still sell the car but you have to find a state that will accept a "bill of sale" document to register. Nevada is a state that will register cars with just a bill of sale and then the new owner sends paperwork in to get a title for it. I used to live in Nevada and registered motorcycles and cars with just a bill of sale and then I would send in paperwork for a Nevada title in my name. You should be able to get top dollar for the car if advertised in Vegas.
What you mean was in Nevada the registration department is separate from the title department. You cannot just go in with a bill of sale. You still have to show previous ownership to get plates unless you have a special document from a tow yard lien sale or something like that.

Same thing recently happened to me with IAA Long Island NY. First they were very nasty when I called to ask for a storage fee waiver for 2 days because my wire transfer got delayed. The manager straight up said “not my problem”. Then when I went to pickup my car they didn’t even have a title and were like “ looks like someone made an error and they are requesting a duplicate …things happen” I usually would be understanding but the annoying thing was they weren’t compassionate when I was asking for assistance but now expect me to be okay with their error. On another note about bumpers getting tore up from you know who. I too bought a Mercedes E430 Sport and the pics of the front bumper was perfect. The loader brought it out and the front bumper was broke in half!! Not usable at all. $1k bumper they destroyed. Went inside and showed the auction pics and they told me OH WELL Sold as is...just like you said Randy, the pics are for representation only. They told me to kick rocks!!
Just to add my experience with Copart which I no longer do business with and aside the ridiculous raise in their fees. I had bought a Boat from them for cash, they give you the Title right away. Well, 6 months after and was ready to register it. Registration went fine and paid the fees. Well, then I was ready to move on and sell it, the HIN didn't match the HIN on the Title. Yup, those incompetant Copart desk clerks gave me the wrong title. Told Copart and they did find the right title, but Copart wouldn't reimburse me for registering a wrong vessel. My suggestion is to try and contact above the Branch Manager, I think I was able to get a district managers email when I was cc'ing everyone at Copart. The Branch Managers are also a joke and ANY auction locations. I never get satisfaction until their boss is contacted. I have more horror stories about Copart, but will refrain. Don't arbitrate that Kia, you'll lose all the money you put into it. I put my suggestion in another post.
I wait a month and after that month is up send a certified letter giving them extra mile time to properly respond if they don't respond asked to sit down with them with negotiations or apply for abandoned title of that vehicle
Ranndy, First off im sorry this situation has happended to you it suks I know. years ago I used to work for a small dealer in WI and I was the title clerk for him we ran into a similar situation on a vehicle he purchased from the auction. We could not get a title somehow I have no idea how the auction lost/misplaced/? the title so we ended up sitting on the vehicle for about 30days. we ended up bringing the car back to the auction and he got his money back. He was on a floor plan so really he got a "CREDIT". This was after we waited and waited and both he and I made daily calls to the auction and almost daily visits me being the title clerk I was a bit more tenacious. It was a terrible thing the dealership lost income potential and we ended up at a lost after minor maintenance, repairs, and a detail. Its your choice sir but after what yoou have said in your video I would just get my investment back and return the car its frustrating waiting a good while for something and the emails and phone calls and being ignored. And the TOS as far as damage goes is another area I had to deal with also. Good Luck.
Lost titles happen all the time. As a lender I see it too often. In Michigan the Secretary of State can look up the owner on record with the VIN#. The listed owner can request a copy of the title due to lost title.
Hope all works out there, I know some states have issues with titles, Colorado lost a reprinted title I needed to trade in my car. They got to me 2 months later but was frustrating.
Probably they have to get an duplicate title, which can be complicated if the previous owner did not clear the title of the lien holder and the lender went out of business or was bought out. I went through that problem when i traded a car for a ps2. I was given a bill of sale with a duplicate title form.
Lord, what a mess..... Sounds like the same crap Carvana does to people. I hope it all works out and you can get a title somehow or some of your money back!
who else saw the light on the back turning on and off! i was just paying attention to that Lol! Sorry to hear that Randy i hope you get a response soon!
I would think that either the auction or you, assuming you have a bill of sale, would be able to apply for a lost title. Any costs involved should be on the auction because they lost the title.
I been through a similar thing they sold me a stolen car. I called and called even went up there they told me they see this from time to time. The title that they had given me was not even the latest title. I had the suv for 3 months before the cops said that they would take it off the stolen list. Then I had to file for abandonment title in my state to get a title. The people at IAAI had a attitude they I was calling every two days to get a update and the suv that I overpaid for.
In Calif, there is a form to replace the original title. In my experience, best to bring that into a registration services in your state to verify paperwork needed. You have the Bill of Sale from the auction for proof that you own it. Just hit me up if you have any questions. Yes, I have a Calif Dealers Lic.
Man Randy I feel your frustrations you know it’s one thing buying a vehicle that’s damaged from an auction and stuck with the damages, but selling a vehicle and claiming it has a legit title and not producing it after money has been exchanged well that’s a criminal act under federal law they can face serious penalties ask Carvana they’re doing the same thing! Good luck my friend Oh btw just subscribed hope that helps your Tuber check some lol
At this point the best take-away from this nightmare is prior to bidding on a future vehicle from said auction house would be to see what the current status of the title is for that particular vehicle. If the auction house cannot give a potential bidder/buyer the physical location and legal status (who legally possesses said title) then just move on to another car or truck. Obviously it's not worth the aggravation and frustration.
randy i know we dont get on but before u send it back drop the oil out run in then put the oil back in u bought it broken make sure it goes back broken
In my state we have something called a title lien. Are you able to possibly do that in Oklahoma get a title lien then you’re able to go to DMV and get yourself a lost title application with the title lien and be able to get your title for that Kia.
Damn that’s a hard pill to swallow! I’d follow the plans you already have time wise then move to claiming! But for the next vehicle you purchase I personally wouldn’t drop a dime into repairs until title is in hand! My mom who is 67 paid $15k cash for a car from a dealership. They cashed her check and she is still waiting on a title.
If she has been waiting for a while go file the complaint with the DMV and then get an attorney. Don't wait for a lot of time to pass. Also was that dealer Carvana?
Id just drive the car as long as you can with your dealer tag. Even if you have to apply for a bonded title, I'd probably do that. The upside is too great to not try for it. Good luck Randy!
Sorry to hear this Randy. Hopefully they will come up with a title. If not and it was my car I'd wash my hands of that Auction. It' shard enough today to make a buck in car sales, this shit pisses me off.
I would contact the Division of Motor Vehicles and ask for a new title. There might be a fee. OR have Copart contact the original owner to file for one. That might be another fee. Here in Tennessee one can file for a new title.
They can contact the owner and the owner can go to the dmv and get a title or they the auction should be able to go to the dmv with their paperwork for the car
I know in Georgia all they would have to do is have the seller file for a list title and normally that only takes a week or two. I would wait just because of the potential profit.
Bonded title? It's how tow companies and other entities get titles for vehicles they legally possess and want to resale instead of part out (since you can't legally scrap the frame of a car you don't have a title for). I'd try to get the auction company to pay for it. I heard before as well, if there's an arbitration clause, forget trying to fight and just wait. Arbitration is 9 times out if 10 going to favor the big company unless you can prove they maliciously acted. At best, they'll rule that the auction company refunds you when you return the car. All else is lost. I also guarantee they'll do as little work as possible since it's not really their problem, and possibly in the back of their mind, they could potentially get higher fees if they bring the car back and have whoever listed it resell it for 2-3x what you paid (assuming they take a percentage and not a flat fee). In any case, I'd wait, but look over those terms of service... They may have a 45-90 day warranty to return the car if there are issues they caused. After that, it'll be your problem.
I understand there are different rules and regulations for different states. Is it possible to go to the DMV and put in for a “lost” title? For example car in Texas I “think” if you buy a car with no title there is a way to get a replacement. I haven’t had to do that myself, that why I ask the question. You should not have to do that yourself.
If you know someone that does towing that you trust you can have the car "impounded" and they can file for a new title because it would be considered an abandoned car after 60 days. Then you will get a title in the tow yards name. So it might cost you some money and time but its possible you can get a title again.
I dealt with the same situation a couple times I would definitely try to hold out if you can it's easy just to give it back but that doesn't make up for the profit loss especially if it was going to be a good one just my opinion I would definitely try to hold out they're probably trying to contact a customer to get you a dup title I would definitely try to hold out if you can
for me in Alaska it within 30 days, you not the only one with this going on. 3 weeks, & iaa told me well big deal. but you right randy at the end of the day. they getting a pay check, & the person who gives them that money for there pay check is nothing much for them. for me i would wash my hands, & move on what i might do for my.
Hey Randy I noticed on the Cadillac you haven't replaced the windshield wipers yet I think? There's a trick what you do is you get the size of windshield wiper 1 inch longer you have to get the metal windshield wiper blade replacement even though they're black that's okay and you take out the windshield wiper blade and you could use them on those metal windshield wipers you just have to squeeze the little clips tighter and at the end there's little holes on the end of the new windshield wipers where you can stick them into you'll see stick them into the plastic of the the little metal tabs on the windshield wiper arms or whatever they call him and you can replace him but you have to get 1 inch longer wipers than what it calls for so if they're you know 18 get 19 / whatever size they are. Then you could keep the nice silver windshield wiper arms on there not them black ones that look they always look wrong one on old classic cars you know everything's pretty stock and then they have silver arms and then black wipers it just looks dorky. And I wish you some luck on the Kia that's too bad after you did all that work to it sorry to see that that's going to happen I hope they find it there's no way to get a replacement a duplicate title or anyting from the previous owner?
Wait the time you offered them 1 week ?Hopefully the title shows up ! After that you will have to think of going another route ! KEEP UP with your VIDEO'S !

i used to work at a auction near me they sold left over dealer stock and used cars. it was comman they would lose 3 or more cars plus paper work each month
i hope they can get the seller to go to the dmv/bmv and get a replacement title, but you are at the mercy of them doing this. if they watch your videos by chance, the may ride itout to get a repaired car back to keep or sell for full value, which is just wrong of them to do. i wonder if after a certian amount of time if you can get a title due to abandonment? i know, at least in SC, if a shop has a car that never gets picked up, they can file for a title due to abandonment. i would think in what you do, that would be a solution for you, too. i do not know what the time frame is before you can do that, but that forces you to have that money tied up for the time frame. i hope they get this resolves!
Run the VIN with the local PD and once they confirm the car is not stolen take the paperwork and register it in Vermont. You can then apply for a title. It’s legal and Vermont advertises this My family does this all the time and it works. If you don’t want to do that, You then need to get to a C-Suite executive at coparts. If you get the COO or CEO name their email will be the same format so let’s say the COO is Rick Jones. Look at how the addresses are formatted. Then use the same format and email them and tell him what a great customer and can’t believe your being treated like this. The COO or CEO have special team for situations like this. That gets attention most times. You just need to do a little research. Be sure to stay civil and just tell them who you are On RUclips and you’d like to give them a great video for addressing this so quickly. That tells them you’re going to trash them if not. Obviously don’t say that but you really did by telling them you want to give them a positive review
Even if you return the car you should be able to put a mechanic's lien against that since you worked on it for the amount of money but in it if you get a written statement and paperwork you should be able to go to the DMV in providing the VIN number they should be able to find it and apply you for a lost my brothers went through it before it taking three months to get a title but he got it

I would definitely ask the auction what about all the money you put into it so far what happens about that I definitely won't let that go they're going to try to tell you that they can't do nothing for you but that's a load of crap this isn't your fault this is their fault so they need to make a right it's not like they don't have the money. worst case they can contact the owner and try to get the owner to send for a dupe title It would be if some waiting but you would still maybe get your money for selling the car.
Okay Randy, well that sucks!! My advice is to return the car to the lot. Then give them a document of the costs you incurred purchasing the car, the replacement parts, and the labor/time you spent. I would call them and tell them they have exactly five business days to mail you overnight the title to the Kia Forte. It's already been 15 business days. If you don't receive the title by May 19th then they will have to cut you a check for the purchase of the car, the parts, and labor you put into it. If they refuse, hire a lawyer ASAP. They are taking way too long.

@@jamesireland9188 Yup, and these auction places know this.
Same thing happened to the car my mom bought it took 3 months to get the title

Randy, you will get the title, that's for sure, trust the process and keep in touch with the Auto Action Dealer. Hopefully, this video gets their attention to work out these particular issues with regular customers like you. Keep up the great work.
This sucks Randy hope you get the title soon! She’s a great vehicle! I’d hold on to the Kia i know you definitely want that profit!
@@mexicanspec Maybe you should reread what I wrote, I understand the school system in Vegas educates everyone who graduates high school at a 2nd grade level. The DMV on east Sahara and registered the vehicle with a bill of sale only. I then sent in paperwork to get a title thru a separate entity. I love it when crack heads can't comprehend what someone writes. You need to quit living off of Bonanza and 28th street.
I'm sorry that happened to you. I pray you get the title and straighten everything out
Never do work to a vehicle until you have title in hand. My father was in used car business for 35yrs. He always stayed true to that, as to avoid this exact situation. Hope it works out for you, love the channel
What a pain, but thanks for posting as it is nice to see you full time car guys have same problems as us... !
Randy, You're taking this better than I would... So damn frustrating! I feel for you.
That is like what happened to me I bought a Ford car from a dealership in Phoenix Arizona and thay could not get me a title for the car and after 4 months the dealership gave me all the money that I spent on it and what I paid for it I had to do a windshield a alternator belts and tires I paid 900 for the car and 1500 in repairs got it all back
Same thing recently happened to me with IAA Long Island NY. I’ve since been getting a run around about the title 😡
Lesson here, dont put money in a car if you dont have a title
Its a Business you CANT keep waiting to get a paperwork and have the cars sitting
I had a Copart Jaguar and did a total rebuild with purchase and parts with a frame shop bill and lost over 5k ... It's a bummer... I loved that car... Total loss.. I feel your pain
Don't worry, Randy, these are the little things of life. Do everything according to the law and be calm. Here's how the business works: you lose somewhere, you find somewhere. I'm sure you'll earn even more.
You should be able to get a mechanics leaned or a storage lien on the title therefore you would have it in hand ready to do whatever you please with it
In Michigan as long as you have you have a bill of sale, You can do a lost tittle. The seller can also do a lost tittle transfer.
if you got to return car, put a mechanics lean on what you did, Indiana another state you make sure you got a title.
ah, smart! I would not have thought of that.
You can't put a mechanics lien on a vehicle when the legal owner didn't authorize any work lol
@@WTC1873 he has the receipt where he bought the car from the auction, and when you authorize an auction company (where I am) to sell a lot for you, you actually do sign possession of the item over to them. He can in fact put a lien on it. I actually got a title for a vehicle from a auction company receipt years ago, it's complicated but can be done.
Lien, mechanics lien. Randy doesn't have that option.
@@WTC1873 That is not true at all. Whoever has legal possession of the car can authorize repairs. In this case randy doesn't have a mechanics shop.
Thx for informing us Randy!
Agh. After all that work! And the love and care you put into the Forte!
We call them logbooks in Ireland 🇮🇪
Tim and Ed do the real deal rebuild. Those guys are amazing!
Visit the branch manager if it's local.
randy i know we dont get on but before u send it back drop the oil out run in then put the oil back in u bought it broken make sure it goes back broken
In my state we have something called a title lien. Are you able to possibly do that in Oklahoma get a title lien then you’re able to go to DMV and get yourself a lost title application with the title lien and be able to get your title for that Kia.
Of course one of the easiest cars to fix and cheapest is going to have some stupid issue. I hope you can get all this sorted out.
I am not sure if OK is the same but we have an option for a duplicate/replacement title to be furnished. I hope you get the title.
Randy you can get a duplicate, takes more time but worth the wait
Thanks for the reality check
Id just drive the car as long as you can with your dealer tag. Even if you have to apply for a bonded title, I'd probably do that. The upside is too great to not try for it. Good luck Randy!
Thats the problem with auctions i bought a mint lamborgini murcielago lp but i found it with a broken bumper😢😢
Good luck my friend. They will make it right. 😊
Randy, a bond title would be your best shot solution, they should cover the cost of it
Uhhh yeah…..that’s a issue! Love the video as always! Keep it going Randy!
Randy go to whoever gives you a title when you register your cars and get the last owner’s name then contact them to file lost title on it
Lucky there isn't a fee for forklift damage added in!
Read the fine print there may be !
Sorry to hear this Randy. Hopefully they will come up with a title. If not and it was my car I'd wash my hands of that Auction. It' shard enough today to make a buck in car sales, this shit pisses me off.
we here in nz, dont have paper titles, we do change of ownership online for $10
Being self employed has it's ups and downs. Stay strong. Hopefully your title will surface very soon.
If you have the bill of sale, you can always go the Vermont Loophole way to get the title.
I've never had a issue using the Vermont process in the 20 odd states
I would contact the Division of Motor Vehicles and ask for a new title. There might be a fee. OR have Copart contact the original owner to file for one. That might be another fee. Here in Tennessee one can file for a new title.
Don't know if this helps...
Uncle Tony did a vid a few months back,a certain state accepts registrations poss Montana?
in Michigan we can go to the dmv and get a lost titil can you do that
Didn't they do this to your T bucket too?
They can contact the owner and the owner can go to the dmv and get a title or they the auction should be able to go to the dmv with their paperwork for the car
sometimes u gotta make some noise to get some results. maybe this video will help. the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Wow, Randy, that sucks hopefully get it straightened out and you make some coin on the car man good luck
Wait the time you offered them 1 week ?Hopefully the title shows up ! After that you will have to think of going another route ! KEEP UP with your VIDEO'S !
Randy i feel for you mate this is the second time this has happened to you if i remember it happened with the classic dump truck aswell
This happened to me when I got my 2002 Volkswagen Passat I have a get a bill of sale from the Georgia DMV and within a month or so I got a bonded title from said DMV
What about filing for a lost title bond?
i feel your pain but if you have a bill of sale or a document of purchasing the vehicle you go to DMV and request a new title
Man this sucks I like that Kia as well. It was great to see you bring it back and keep it running on the road. Now this happens! That is just bad. I would seriously start researching duplicate titles to try and get it legal. Hope it works out Randy.👍
i used to work at a auction near me they sold left over dealer stock and used cars. it was comman they would lose 3 or more cars plus paper work each month
Apply for Duplicate title $32 takes 2 weeks Copart very helpful here in DFW
#1 this isn't Copart. #2 it's not an Oklahoma car so you can't just duplicate the title here.
i hope they can get the seller to go to the dmv/bmv and get a replacement title, but you are at the mercy of them doing this. if they watch your videos by chance, the may ride itout to get a repaired car back to keep or sell for full value, which is just wrong of them to do. i wonder if after a certian amount of time if you can get a title due to abandonment? i know, at least in SC, if a shop has a car that never gets picked up, they can file for a title due to abandonment. i would think in what you do, that would be a solution for you, too. i do not know what the time frame is before you can do that, but that forces you to have that money tied up for the time frame. i hope they get this resolves!
Run the VIN with the local PD and once they confirm the car is not stolen take the paperwork and register it in Vermont. You can then apply for a title. It’s legal and Vermont advertises this
My family does this all the time and it works.
Randy you should have a car lot of various cars that you are restoring and bringing back to life.
Be patient with the process
Even if you return the car you should be able to put a mechanic's lien against that since you worked on it for the amount of money but in it if you get a written statement and paperwork you should be able to go to the DMV in providing the VIN number they should be able to find it and apply you for a lost my brothers went through it before it taking three months to get a title but he got it
hey randy any time i have had an issue with title from an auction or when I purchase cars from the parking authority which basically they take your car from you no matter if you owe money on it or not and if you don't have the money to get the car back to pay your fines or get it back off the police no matter what they get to keep the car and sell the car and a judgment gets put against it and they get a title for it they basically make a title for it no matter if you bought it 3 weeks ago and then lost it on the third week and you haven't even made one single payment the court gets to issue a title for it because it was sold at auction so say for some reason I purchased it that car and the customer made a bank think about it and God will your involved etc etc and I already fixed it painted it did whatever to it the parking authority would come get the car however they pay me all the money that I put into it including the tow keys paint detail everything they pay me for everything minus what I would have sold it for.
Whoa what a bummer!
You've had some viable suggestions as far as getting a replacement title, why don't you check those out?
Did you already do a video on the S550 I will have to look I have not
Okay Randy, well that sucks!!
