  • My hike up Mount Marcy in the the summer of 2015. The hike took nine hours on a wet and messy fourteen mile trail, although it was not particularly difficult.

Great hike. Great video. One question. Why didn't you stop at Indian Falls and enjoy the great view of the MacIntyre Range?

Awesome video, I was pleased to find this on RUclips, and it being so recent. I am studying Marcy and in July plan to come to New York and try to break the Fastest Known Time (FKT) for an ascent and decent of Marcy. Thanks for the long video and commentary, great details and info that I will put to use in my effort. Hope you enjoyed it!

I've watched this video many times in hopes that one I'd finally get to hike it. Well that time is next week. Actually doing this, Mansfield and Washington in NH as a training hike for Mt. Whitney in July. It's tough to get any type of elevation living here on the East Coast. Your video gives me a good idea of what to expect.

You picked an AWESOME day to hike up! After doing both Algonquin and Marcy I can tell you "gradual incline" is a deceiving thought with Marcy. Marcy drags on which is tough but worth the challenge. Gets steep towards the end. Algonquin was tough with respect to being steeper most of the way. Gradual & Long or Steep & Short. Tough choice

Toughest trail section i've come across so far in the High peaks is getting up Algonquin + Iriquois from Lake Colden, just straight up about 3 miles lol, doing it in the middle of august didn't help ;) But was still well worth it, perfect days on an ADK summit is hard to beat.

so basically I'm doing a massive school project called NHD on Mount Everest and plan to travel to marcy to film some footage this winter. how hard do you think it would be in the winter for someone who is fit, yet not the most experienced hiker?

Your video was entertaining I wonder if you could shorten the hike to Mt Marcy ? Now people there at the info center say its 7 hrs one way is that true because your said you did it in 8.40 hrs round trip??

There are certainly numerous trails in the area so I would imagine there are different ways to approach the peak. Probably none easier than my route; I typically choose the easiest way up ☺

I also did it during winter. Only I did it naked in flip flops in about 2 hours. It was a slog, but I managed.

can you bike part of the way

I can't honestly remember whether there was a rule against that, but my feeling is that there was. Based on memory, the trail seems ridable certainly the first two miles or so up to where you cross that river. I seem to recall that being fairly flat and less rocky; however, I know for sure I did not see any bikes anywhere on the trail.

Dude you're way to young to have such a hard time hiking Marcy. If you can't jog at least part of the way down you should't be hiking. It's not that tough a hike. I assume you don't exercise.

Yeah im not sure what to say man, my dads been hiking in the ADKs since the early 70s, and hes 60 now, still getting up the 46'ers and has 6 left to cross off his list. Fuck out of here telling him he 'shouldn't be hiking' just because he can't run down lol. What kind of logic is that. Not like hes out here doing Everest putting his life and others at risk.

John that's right, if you can't jog down part of Everest you shouldn't be climbing that either. What the hell kind of logic is this?
