You wanna know the real reason they aren’t gonna ever do that? It’s because Splatoon is targeted towards children and I’m not gonna lie I don’t need romance in my silly squid game. Like it doesn’t matter if we’re talking gay or not Splatoon is just not a game that should ever involve romance, nor would it ever work. Like it is such an unnecessary thing to do with these characters and I think a lot of people would rather the game not head in that direction. Point is, all that it would end up doing is creating a massive divide in the community that and it would also severely hurt Nintendo as a company. Again, it’s not an issue of whether or not they are gay it’s an issue of having romance in the game in general. Splatoon is simply not the right game for that.

also, i totally get where ur coming from with the “splatoon doesn’t need romance” stuff. i completely get it. it’s just, it wouldn’t be a major plot point or anything to just have two characters be in a romantic relationship. we don’t need a whole storyline of pearl and marina smooching, we don’t need to attend a silly squid wedding or whatever, and i don’t think most people are wanting that. it would just be cool and exciting for nintendo to be like “hey guys lesbian cephalopods are real” and then call it a day. and like honestly,,,, i don’t even need them to hold hands. i agree splatoon doesn’t need romance, but i don’t think that confirming that there is a romantic relationship between two characters would change the lore or anything whatsoever. mostly, this is just queer people being excited about any ounce of queer representation in a game that they love.
