I think their debut album is an absolute masterpiece and still holds up today. That entire era of music is my favorite.

Interpol speaks to people differently. I get emotional when hearing this song and interpreting the lyrics and thinking about relevance to me. Instrumentally, it’s not an amazing song, but it’s the passion and message.

"It's like learning a new language". This clue has always made me believe that this song symbolizes the tortuous "exploration" of a controversial love. And so you can explain why Leif Erickson.

My favourite band of all time. I got to see them live in Sydney Australia in Nov 2023, it was amazing.

I really apprecaite your reaction as always even though this didn't connect with you on a first listen. Lyrically, I don't have to understand the entirety of the song to appreciate lines such as "Her rabid glow is like braille to the night" giving me something to think about. For instance, how does a mind even think to say such a thing so unusually compared to the majority of songs with a 7 word lexicon, where 2 of the words are 'oh baby'?

Admittedly not the best song to start with, but the subtle melodies tend to grow on me with each listen, whereas catchier songs don't have the same staying power years and decades down the road. You may find this to be the case particularly within the context of this great album, Turn on the Bright Lights, or it's just not to your taste, which is completely fair.

I wonder if this song is refering to the viking explorer Leif Erikson who discovered America AD 1001, fivehundred years before Colombo sat his foot there? 🤔
Well, not bad but not my cup of tea.
