- So, I was recently at a thrift shop one day and stumbled upon this labelless reel. I put it through my projector and I was shocked to see that Mark and Ethan were getting their inspiration from this show that used to air on NBC for some weird reason.
Upon further inspection inside the reel case, there were markings that had the number "1955" on it. So, I'll assume this reel dates back to '55.
I'm guessing the reason why the internet couldn't find this version was because NBC decided to tighten their lips and destroy every reel of this show. It's a shame they couldn't tell us about this. This would've been nice to see in the NBC archive.
How Mark and Ethan knew about this show in the first place, I have no idea. They must have had a family member remember this wildly obscure show from what I assume from the promo.
Anyway, yeah, this was a lifetime lucky find! I don't know if I'll sell it to a modern fan or what, but you let me know and I'll think about it.
UPDATE: There seems to be multiple comments about how the music used was from 2013. I thought that too. It must’ve been a similar cover or something, very suspiciously similar.
It might’ve been originally from the 50s, but covered in the 21st century. Whatever it is, I’m not sure…
In any case, this has been really baffling for me and I wished I could investigate this reel more, especially the similar chanting, as well.

What is Unus Annus?
Unus Annus is a channel made by Markiplier and Crankgameplays. They created it on November 12th 2019. They said they would delete in a year and they did delete it.
For all we know this IS real and we would never know...

The sad thing is that I'm sure that Unus Annus in 2019-2020 was great, but I never got to see it because I never knew it existed until after it died. I moved four times, going back and forth across country during that year. Then I had to reschedule everything I did and didn't have time for, so I dropped RUclips and focused on other things. I saw 2020 as an opportunity to try and get things done, especially with school and all that. I've accomplished a few goals during that hell of a year. We all have.
Looking at Unus Annus now, I can only smile and imagine what it was like.
I can't believe it's going away forever now. We were just having fun, "we didn't know we were making memories", is the perfect quote for what I'm feeling right now.

I keep seeing "if this was real" comments and tbh we don't know if it was real - it could have easily been real, but other than talking to a parent or grandparent about it, there's no solid proof of such existing. Neither is there proof of the Unus Annus YT channel existing except for in our memories.
The music was made in 2013 or 2014, and the chanting at the beginning of the UNUS ANNUS was Mark and Ethan

You know when I first thought this was real. I felt like it was fully relatable to me the Cold War. As many people have been nervous about the Soviet Union going nuclear war on both fronts. Then I watched this thinking: "If this was real? Could America have tried to warn us about the end of the world?" Then I heard the term, "Unus • Annus" which is the Latin Term for "One Year" (In turn that's 365 days in total..) This video, even though it was fake, shows that America was going to broadcast 365 episodes of a show, then destroy the tapes after filming, which means that after every episode, it would be a sign that the clock is ticking, to a countdown of a global thermonuclear death.
Hereby also making a statement that the survivors of the disaster would be considered lucky as they would be the ONLY generation to witness such episodes, telling them that the world was in danger....
But that is only a theory that I thought up of, now I realize this was fake. And the fact we survived after many years of us against the Soviet Union. I only sent this comment for fun, not to alarm anyone who is sensitive to the dark history behind the Cold War propaganda..

was it not? as far as we know it could be real. the film was supposedly broken so there is no evidence of this show. but to be fair this is probably fake because how would've mark and ethan gotten the sound at the start onto an mp3? also the audio at the start is to high quality, they also didnt have digital clocks back then, meaning the part at the end couldnt have been done.

It's possible that the NBC owned the song, then Michael Rothery bought it off them in 2013, but had to promise to say that it was made in 2013.

Ethan actually doesn't have great grandparents. When he was born, neither of his parents were there to welcome him into the world. It's actually quite sad, and I'm so happy at what he has accomplished after all of that. He is truly an inspiration.

The music used in this video and for unus annus was composed in 2013 (or 2014, cant remember which), however this person says the tape is from 1955.

The COOLEST thing about this is, if it was actually a thing in 1955 there would be conspiracy theories about it now, the episodes about murder would be horrifying to watch nowadays. The whole show would basically become a creepypasta, especially with almost no proof of it actually existing.
