    Thank you for doing a video on this. I just got the cappuccino mix in my 2006 R1. I don't think it's a head gasket, but ill check the compression to be sure. I believe it's the seals on my water pump that went. I'll refer back to your video once I get the motivation to work on it lol

    WARNING LADS. If you replace the full pump you will get the newer replacment pump part No: 4c81242021
    When you get this new pump it will already have the gear on it, if you look bellow the gear on the shaft there will be a circlip holding the bearing inner face in. You need to remove that circlip and fit the washer bung gapper ring thing thats on your old pump and when you screw the gear cog back down it will use that washer gapper to pull the shaft back to the right amount to take up the pump shaft side- to -side play perfectly. When you pull the circlip off you will hear the pump shaft click down and basically the impeller will comtact the snail so dont force it to turn its resting on the bare metal at this pont. When you tighten the bolt down on the gear it will self gap the entire pump assembly pefectly the way it done from the factory. If you accidentally fit the washer bush on alongside the circlip you're gear is not fully located home and if you just run with the new pump with its circlip in it then you best hope that wee circlip holds up because if it doesnt the pump is toast and you need another

      Also, if you're replacing your pump (which comes with a new sprocket) you should also replace your chain there. The OE manufacturer for the pump chain is DID Japan !

    The OEM Yamaha factory service manual designates which bolts require loctite, and which ones do not. It would have been nice to actually have seen the open weep hole after you installed the oil seal (before the mechanical seal). I made the mistake of putting a small screwdriver up through the hole in the oil pan and may have damaged the seal, but don't know which one, so now I have to take the whole damn thing apart just to find out what damage I MAY havecaused. : (

    The manual says to use some kind of Yamaha specific bonding agent for the mechanical seal that you did not use. Is this not really necessary?

    How did you stop the sprocket from turning to undo the bolt ?

    • @bigduphusaj162
      @bigduphusaj162 7 месяцев назад

      it will undo using the chain as a backer just palm the spanner fast. If you are fitting the newer model replacement pump thats sold as part no: 4c81242021 then you need to listen to what im about to say. The older pump as you take off the gear cog you have a gapping bush thing yamaha call a "washer" It fits between the gear cog and bearing inner face. On the new model the pump has a circlip on the bearing face that holds the pump shaft at the right height so the pump impellor doesnt grind against the snail. The new pump comes with the gear on it. You need to remove the gear then remove the circlip then you put the old pumps bush type gap washer on it so when you tighten the gear on it pulls the pump shaft to the exact height of the washer. If you accidentally put your old gear cog and washer on a new pump then you are running the chain out of true as the washer butts up against the new pumps circlip and the cog never fully seats right on the cam shaped shaft end. You can run with the new pump with its new gear clog on it but you arent running it in its safest mode as all you have to control shaft float is a silly wee circlip rather than that big gapping washer bung thing. I hope this makes sense.

    my 2012 r1 leaks oil of carter and probably comes from the water pump/oil. What you think about this?

    • @bigduphusaj162
      @bigduphusaj162 6 месяцев назад

      Yeah see the hole it comes out if its at the bottom of the sump nearer the back its the bypass pipe dumping oil out as the water/oil pumps main shaft seal is goosed on the oil side of the pump. Sometimes you get oil sometimes you get water from it depending on what seal has went in the pump. The only other bit that will spew oil out there is if you've had a badly fitted Oil level sensor or if you've hit the oil level sensor. The sump gasket is the graphite paper stuff they dont ever tend to get sump leaks via the gasket or if the head gasket is blown on the outside it tends to end up on your exhaust down pipe and gather at the front where the 4 branch headers go into the exup section

    Hi, and thanks for the video! Not quiet an coolant leak but an oil leak from the same spot.. is it possible for oil to leak from the back of the water pump where the o ring is? As I've had oil coming down from that area which lead me to believe it was the oil pan gasket at first bit I changed it.
    Would appreciate your response as I'm considering replacing the whole water pump, but if it could just be the O ring I'll change that? 07 R6

    • @MattsMotoWoRX
      @MattsMotoWoRX  Год назад +1

      Any seal or o-ring can leak from the water pump weep hole it’s designed to show that type of failure. Order all the o-rings, seals, and gaskets and do the job once.

      Drill them out mate and order yourself in a a pack of ten A2-70 M6 with flange heads and a pack of 10 brass M6 square cut nuts. Replace them all with these including the exup bolts. You need 9 in total. On the Exup section use a dremmel or die grinder to flush out behind the neck of the exup flange so the square cut nuts sit flat against it. You only need a tiny bit removed to get the nuts flush. Or if you get the exup apart without drilling it then the A2-70 flanged bolts will screw into the old threaded holes no problem. You want three 16-18mm long bolts and a single 20mm long A2-70 bolt for the Exup if you want to keep the bolts flush at the back.

    I am leaking coolant from the weep hole on my bike and the mechanic I took it too doesn’t want to do the job because they did it before on another bike and the seal started leaking again after about a month of riding. they don’t want to have to go back into the bike and fix the problem again if the seal fails again after a month.
