    If everyone had a larch in their in-tray, the world would be a much better place! 🐦💙

    What a nice video. I watched it last night on the big telly. Really interesting to see your work on these larches and hear your thoughts on the process. As I'm sure you can imagine, I'd be getting some wire onto them straight away, but that's the beauty of bonsai. There are multiple approaches to it.

    • @XaviersBonsaiRetreat
      @XaviersBonsaiRetreat  2 года назад +2

      The issue is often the stability with so few roots and I found that when i last did this (20 years ago) I was able to apply wire quite easily a year later. I think this time I wanted to appeal to the starter who really doesnt want to use wire yet. Cheers for spoiiling me on the big screen :)

    • @TonysBonsai
      @TonysBonsai 2 года назад +2

      That's a great point about appealing to the starter who perhaps doesn't have any wire. I have an idea for a bonsai challenge in the spring that I think will really appeal to you.

    Xavier another great bonsai basics video! Your tap to emphasize sets the point in my head. Where did you order your larch from? Great explanation on root choice and how to start your radial pattern. Can't wait for the artistic video you spoke about!

      We are lucky in the UK that a number of commercial nurseries sell a wide range of dry root sapling stock. It was Beechfields nursery if that is of any help to you. The project will take some time but the video work is already started. :)

    I just did mine today, they came from beechwood trees on eBay. I've just got them outside. I guess I should move them to the shed if it gets below freezing. Mine were in great shape, lots of buds all over them.

      That's brilliant. If we have sustained sub sero then consider that but otherwise they should be okay in a sheltered part of the garden. Make sure to send me some pictures or even a little video clip of what you have done now...and maybe again when they start to bud out. Cheers, Xav
