In his father’s book, he points out how after he knew what Jeffrey did, he noticed how nervous he seemed. Anytime they mention his apartment or what he’s been up to, he shifts uncomfortable and his foot moves. I didn’t notice this until after I read this part, but you can clearly see how any mention of his apartment or personal life makes him uncomfortable or awkward knowing what he’s done.

Yeah the man that escaped him said sometimes he would tune off for many moments like he wasn’t sitting there, saying nothing. I’m not a serial killer but i do dissociate many times in the day, and this is exactly what if feels like. @زنجي i mean that in society he acted polite etc.. behind closed door yeah he did horrible things.. many people said he acted so normal in society and kind and they were shocked when they heard he is a killer
They certainly aren't the conspicuous, purple-cloaked villains we remember from our childhood cartoons. The fact that most are able to blend seamlessly into society makes them so effective and terrifying.
Dude, as soon as I heard, "Cousin Jeff" My heart sank. These poor people, he was family to them. I could never imagine me finding out my family member would do something so gruesome.
Being interested in genealogy, I wonder who the child who referred to Jeff as “cousin Jeff” was? Per ancestry, Lionel has a younger sister, so could this child have been Lionel’s sister’s son or daughter?
@@8luvbugI’ve just found out online (via findagrave) that as well as Lionel’s recent passing, his younger sister, a lady called Eunice Zirbel nee Dahmer also died recently at age 84. Her online obituary states that she had three sons. I’m wondering if the small boy could have been Eunice’s youngest son? Also, seeing as Shari is being referred to as “Aunt Shari”, it is also plausible that the young boy might be from her family if it’s not Eunice’s son. I found via ancestry and the 1950 census that Shari has about three younger brothers who may have had children of their own and considered Jeffrey as a cousin…
If he did , then why the heck the Evan's interpretation so awkward?, Jeff seemed more conversational and relaxed. While Evan made every interaction weird and awkward.

Fun fact: Jeffrey gave hints to people that he is a killer. When a taxi driver helped Jeffrey to put a bag in the car the taxi driver asked him if a dead body was in it. And Jeffrey said yes and there was a dead body in bag. Nobody believed him
Unbelievable to see a serial killer talking so sweetly to his family and petting a cat so gently. He seems like such a nice man which is SO disturbing yet intriguing at the same time.

“On Thanksgiving Day, 1990, Shari and I drove up to West Allis to spend the weekend with my mother. Jeff was scheduled to join us there, but he was very late. While we waited, I took out the video camera and filmed a short conversation with my mother. When it was over, she took me on a tour of the house, smiling a little shyly as the camera recorded her progress. She pointed out various rooms, then led me down into the basement. While she spoke, I let the camera pan along the far walls, past shelves of stored goods, and even a door beneath the stairs, one which was still as tightly closed as it had been months before when I had gone down into the basement to search for some clue as to the strange odors that had been continually rising into the main house. There were no odors that day. There had been no odors for quite some time. They had gone with Jeff. Jeff arrived toward the middle of Saturday afternoon. He was dressed very neatly, his hair freshly combed. He wore large glasses, and a cloth jacket which he refused to take off even though the house was very warm. ‘No, no, I’ll just leave it on’, he kept saying, ‘I’ll have to go out for a smoke soon anyway.’ I took up the camera again, and made a videotape of my son. Through the lens I saw a handsome young man who slouched in the large stuffed chair only a few feet from me. He smiled several times and talked about his newfound interest in aquarium fish. He answered my questions politely, and at one point, even got down on the floor and played with my mother’s orange tabby. He seemed to have his life under control. Now, when I look at that video, I see much more than I could possibly have seen before. In the chair, Jeff sits with one leg over the other, a single foot dangling in midair. At each mention of his apartment, his foot twitches slightly. With each mention that i or someone else in the family may drop by to pay him a visit, it twitches. With each mention of what he’s doing now, of how his job is going, of what he does in his spare time- it twitches. Something in his distant, half-dead gaze says, ‘if you only knew’.” -Lionel Dahmer, A Father’s Story
this video was recorded in November 1990? by this time, he was already living in Oxford apartments, right? and he had killed some men. Thank you for the info! poor dad, having a serial killer as a son IS the worst thing that can happen to a father
Hey! I'm reading the book. I love the 1st part! The father is so right when he says his conscience, human being or having heart became dead or they were never Alive! He's a scientist, I love his point of view
This is the most important comment and it should be the top voted. Definitely makes you look at things twice and it’s like they say, hindsight is 20/20. Before reading your comment I didn’t even notice the twitching, although overall he does seem like a nervous/uncomfortable person. After reading this, so odd how his body reacts during certain questions like “what have you been doing lately?” and during mentions of him “cleaning up” his apartment. The reactions are ever so slight. Really shows how good he was at remaining calm on the surface/hiding his demeanor. No wonder he was able to trick and mislead so many people throughout his life.
Lots of people do that. Many people are uncomfortable being filmed.. And did you know that Dahmer actually felt nervous when he WASN'T killing. Not when he was killing. Fake psychologists thinking turning a page without looking at it is an indicator someone is a killer is just hilarious.
People just like to do something with their hands especially when they feel watched for example being filmed it’s not always nervousness it just awkward
Worst part about it, is I’m almost 100% certain I would’ve hung out with this guy..he seems like an awkward but nice dude who dosent have any friends..I’m certain if he asked me to swing by and have a few beers I would have without a second thought, not knowing what he’s done, and capable of doing. It’s terrifying how likeable he seems..
@@Freetown00 I know its a magazine, but he was flipping the pages backwards, again I know its a magazine and u dont have to read them in order but still lol
He seems very good at picking up on the environment and adjusting himself to be as inconspicuous and normie to blend in with his surroundings. He knows what to say to make people comfortable and let their guards down. He’s in perfect control here.
The way he’s flipping pages in the magazine, he’s not looking at, and the fact that he wipes his lips after kissing the cat in that big display of affection for the pet, think he’s way out of control. He’s like a cat on a high wire here.
this seems like a very wrong observation, i dont think he tries to be anything but his weird self, he has no reason to do anything like that, he is human like the rest of us just with a weird hobby on friday nights
This was thanksgiving 1990. Meaning Dahmer had murdered nine people up to this point. He murdered someone just two months before this video. The way he acts so normal is incredible, in a bad way I mean.
Because he has to put on a mask when with family and on camera, we all know and he knew he wanted to dissect that cat.. it’s very sad that he didn’t get the help he needed from his support system, if they would have looked out for the signs they would have seen it and could have intervened and Jeff could have gotten all the help in a mental hospital…
When I first turned it on I thought peters accent was too strong “no one sounds like that” but the fact he actually did and it sounded so apart from everyone else only heightened my experience of evans acting. The accent that sounded sweet and idk what kinda accent now sounds somehow calculating and sluggish at the same time. I hate to love the show bc yk serial killer. But Jesus it’s constantly impressive to see Evan as dahmer. Seriously a critical preformance he deserves some kind of award
He’s incredibly talented when it comes to accents. Watch him on AHS: Hotel, he plays another serial killer (he’s fictional), James Patrick March. He does this terrific 1930s accent. He’s such an underrated actor.
I was just telling my sister that I really can't usually watch the dramatised versions as they are often not true to what happened or the actual events, but Evan P is absolutely uncanny and had me drawn in every step of it. I really caught myself thinking it was him in some scenes 😳 💗rip to all his victims and their families may they find peace!
He looks confused and nervous and no he doesn't look fit at all. He is flipping through the magazine while answering questions that's a sign he is not in good state of mind.
I feel really bad for his family, specially for his father, he tried to help him even more than we can see in Dahmer, the serie, he really loved his son, no matter what

Such an interesting and intimate family clip. So much can be derived from Jeff’s body language especially towards the end. He even pulls away from Sheri’s hand at 2:10 and you can see his body leaning away from the family with his arms and leg crossed, as in closed off and disconnected. In hindsight it’s so telling.
He seems fine, if a little edgy but the way he’s handling that magazine shows to much inner tension. I think around this point he knew he couldn’t sustain his veneer of sanity for much longer his apt was a literal hell hole. This had to be towards the end.
I wonder how that little boy Danny feels about cousin Jeff now. Jeff was arrested just 8 months later. Danny was a young kid then but he has to be around 40 now. This video is so wholesome, just Jeff chilling with his family. It seemed like things were going well for him. I can understand how his father was unaware of how sick and far off the deep end he was.
I found that Lionel’s sister passed away in October. Her online obituary states that she has three sons, one of whom being called Dan. Search Eunice Zirbel obituary on Google
What’s crazy is at 1:22 when his dad mentioned his apartment jeff was subtly making an excuse for them not to come over ‘I haven’t done any dusting or vacuuming’ he wanted no part of anyone being in his sanctuary so to speak. Good chance there was body parts lying all over the place. Spine tingling.
He actually kept it quite clean. At first view you wouldn't have seen anything suspicious, he would keep the body parts in specific places and out of sight. Except for his bedroom, where he had some bones and skulls (the visible stuff, he had some other hidden).
This is so eerie and oddly moving to watch. One of the most iconic and vicious cannibalistic serial killers in history, and here he is just chilling with his family, hanging out in a living room for what looks like a Thanksgiving get-together. It's a haunting reminder that, for all the pain he caused to 17 young men and their families, Jeff was also a human being himself, capable of sitting in a room with his loved ones and carrying on a mundane, "I've been surviving off McDonald's" conversation.
Oh my god the actor sounds exactly like Dahmer, this entire series was so amazing and casted better than any documentary I've ever seen. It was just so insanely accurate.
You can see how uncomfortable he is and how he's constantly thinking. His family sounds too credulous to see how distant and disturbed he really is though
@@Persei1 he's not uncomfortable because he's being filmed. He's uncomfortable because he's in that environment, which in turn is causing him to over think.
He had killed 9 people when this was filmed. He had heads and body parts in the apartment at that exact moment in time where he says he has to clean the place before his dad should visit. In 10 weeks he would keep killing again. All this from what appears to be such a down home, dorky, harmless, sweetheart of a man. It's hard to wrap the mind around this one.
The sheer number of emotional victims outside of the actual victim. count is staggering. I have watched many docs on Dahmer and thought I knew the full story. This series was amazingly done and caught quite a few sides that I had not thought of. The number of mistakes made and overlooking behavior allowed the killing to continue unhindered. The dad trued so hard to take the blame, that was heartbreaking.
If he would've took his son in instead of sending him to his grandmother's house and been a real dad maybe his vile son wouldn't have got away with killing so many people
Yea but they should’ve just left it alone but of course Netflix wanted to make money without the victims families even knowing because (corrupt companies and people that don’t care) Hollywood is so disgusting I can’t believe we’re making trends off memes based off serial killers
Imagine being all the people in this video looking back on these videos and times and realizing they were actually in the presence of one of the most prolific serial killers the world has ever known. I dont believe they were in any danger because Dahmer had a certain type of person he liked to kill when he was blasted drunk, but that realization had to be mind numbingly life changing.
I think most of the people in the video are related to him which is just devastating. Like imagine being the small boy that was the cousin of him and I can't imagine how his aunt must have felt and how do you say that to a small boy like you can't just say " by the way your cousin won't be coming to family meetings anymore he murdered many people "

"Cousin Jeff " - 😢 💔 and the way he smiles so warmly at the little one and says hey. This man was their family. I cannot begin to imagine or appreciate the horrors they felt and faced when this all came out. I really can't.
I’m a family history geek at the moment and I am wondering if the child in the “it’s cousin Jeff” video could be maybe 🤔 the youngest child of Lionel’s sister Eunice? Or if not, a child of one of Shari’s siblings who despite not being related to Jeffrey still called him a cousin anyway due to Shari and Lionel being married
@@The315fanLionel’s younger sister Eunice DID have a son, Dean Zirbel, but he died at aged 6 in 1971. This video was recorded in 1990. It could be that she has another son that is still alive, or it’s as you said, it’s one of Shari’s sibling’s kids. OR, it could be his cousin’s child, so his 2nd cousin.
This is the very first time I seen him not being interviewed in a prison. He's with his family members. To be sitting next to a person like him being so calm and "nice" but not knowing he had drugged, raped murdered and ate his victims is bizarre. A lot of serial killers just tend to look like ordinary people, being with family and having regular jobs. They just want to blend in with the crowd so people don't know what and who they truly are. It's scary seeing him get along with his family members in this footage, knowing what's happened. Seeing the new jeffrey dahmer Netflix series made it like he was back alive. Evan Peter's played him so well to his voice, to his awkward mannerisms, and portrayed such an evil person that once walked on this earth. Had he have never been caught, he'd still fool everyone around him. He is very eerie. Rip to all the victims ❣️
The actors really got the voices down beautifully. I don't understand how Evan peters has not won some type of award yet, he always plays dark characters, but damn, does he do a good job
kinda odd to see a serial killer just acting casual and living their lives. usually the only time you see serial killers they're getting interviewed by police and stuff, but here he's just seems like your average dude.
I'm old enough to remember just how awkward people were back then when home movies were still a thing and nobody, including the person holding the camera, knew how to act and were visibly nervous while being filmed. The cameras were big and clunky, black plastic cinder blocks with a glaringly bright light which made it feel like an interrogation instead of a warm family moment. It was one of the founding pillars of the cringe we know today.
I was born in 1988 and I watched the home movies made from my early birthdays and you're right nobody knew how to act or knew what to say. It was like some extremely low budget movie with wooden acting.
Now i am totally in shock. I would have fallen for him, because he looked good on pictures. I thought to myself, maybe my inner alarm system would have warned me, if i‘d met him in person and talked to him. But no, he comes across as so normal, even pleasant. And then i would have looked out how animals react to him. He was so sweet with the cat. This is really unsettling. One can’t see who is a murderer.

I've seen many interviews with serial killers and a lot of just Dahmer. There is something that just appears a lot more normal about him at a face value then other killers. Which is crazy because you could argue he was one of the most bizzare.

Also, seeing as Shari is being referred to as “Aunt Shari”, it is also plausible that the young boy might be from her family if it’s not Eunice’s son.
‘No, no, I’ll just leave it on’, he kept saying, ‘I’ll have to go out for a smoke soon anyway.’
I took up the camera again, and made a videotape of my son.
Something in his distant, half-dead gaze says, ‘if you only knew’.”

That's because women like you are very easy to trick. And cats like people who feed them and don't chase after them or pick them up to much. Simple.
too much
@@LightSpeed4246 pretty sure he deceived tons of men like you
Now you get why people went with him to his house without doubting at all, and also why the cops believed him many times.
@@cube5750 im not gay...but he could have prayed on women more easily imo because they sre puddy in your hands if you just look the right esy and say the right things
Evan peters played Jeffrey Dahmer remarkably so good that he deserves an Oscar.
"I have to start eating at home more" ........and he did.
No matter what kind of person you are: when there is a cat lying on the floor you will lay down next to it and pet it~
(OK obviously not people who hate cats, I get it, no need to comment that 5 million times😂)
I thought that was a dog?
@@carpediem6842 nah, it’s a cat ~
Lol you made me laugh out loud. He wanted complete control over his victims, but cat controlled him. Meow. They are adorable.
@@turdeyeblind Yeah, you have no heart lol.
Lol
Crazy how far the human brain can go
“That’s cousin Jeff” damn man, that gave me shivers idk why
When people say "Ted Bundy looks charming & can be trust".
But Jeffrey Dahmer can lure 17 men into his apartment, it's crazy to hear. Because he's very attractive, handsome, tall & can be trust...
RIP TO ALL 17 VICTIMS & JEFF...
Just to think this man already had some bodies on his belt during that video is crazy
Imagine the little boy growing up and finding what "Cousin Jeff" had done…
9 to be precise. The most recent being murdered and dismembered just 2 months before this video
Evan Peter's had Jeff's mannerisms down perfectly
"Looks like you're working out"
"Nah, I'm on a strict diet though...."
I've seen many interviews with serial killers and a lot of just Dahmer. There is something that just appears a lot more normal about him at a face value then other killers. Which is crazy because you could argue he was one of the most bizzare.
Notice his body language when Lionel brings up him cleaning his apartment. 1:10
wow amazing how well evan peters played this mad man.
He looks more normal than I do, and I have trouble harming insects.
Uh yeah that doesnt and never will amount to what he did
He hides his evil persona so well even I couldn’t do that
Like Superman and Clark Kent. 2 different people
“I’ve been surviving on McDonald’s” that’s wild
They said he looks "normal" but there is always a part of the cover that slips if you look close enough. Like who tf looks through magazines like thst.
He already had molestation on his record by this time so that family gathering couldn't have been totally comfortable for them.
It truly is amazing at how casually normal he seems. And his family is so loving and kind too. What a sinister sociopath he was.
no, not seems, he IS.
Jeffery Dahmer and Dennis Nilsen has the same kind of lonley vibe.
I wish he was still alive and not murdered in prison.. I would like to hear more interviews with him
The way he's petting the cat 😢 softly
And he killed and tortured cats the other days.
The cat hated it
@@PetiteLicorne He never did that
Hes flipping through that magazine like I do when I’m at the doctors office .
