The way it works in a restaurant is that the Chef sets the menu. all the rest of the staff follow the chef's recipes without question (in most cases), you can't do that, you find another job. If he had tried that in Gordon Ramsay's restaurant Gordon would have shown him the door, not put him waiting tables.
Truth is, this live action covers about 60 episodes or so in the anime. The remaining over 1,100 episodes occur in the Grand Line. That's the main bulk of the story.

Spoiler alert: Mihawk is strongst Warlord so when we meet him so early it is counterintuitive. He doesnt have his crew but probably would be close to solo all other warlords himself depending in circumstances (and if he is able to counter certain ability of certain empress - what we have seen of his demenor he would be). EDIT: Also Warlords are not the strongest "group" in the world. There are 3 groups belived to be much stronger. So even Mihawk as strong as he is doesnt challenge any of them.
Is it said anywhere that Mihawk is the strongest Warlord? I would have thought Kuma seemed pretty insurmountable. Then again I'm only up to Fishman Island

Well, One Piece is older than Devil May Cry and even this fight in the series first happened in 1997. So it's 5 years older than Devil May Cry.
