I wonder if they actually tried that with a less informative question and it didn't work, because just asking ChatGPT-4 "Why does my paper plane stall right before entering a ring of fire?" suggests the heat from the fire makes the air less dense and causes updrafts (along a couple of possible issues with the plane). It doesn't seem like a difficult concept for another LLM with such a large training dataset to get right "on its own".
Hahaha, I laughed at that part. The better test of a chat system is to NOT preload the question with a possible answer at all and especially so detailed. Unless you are asking for other or more possible/probably causes as well or in addition... The tendency of a "helpful" assistant is to YES MAN you is well documented (its easy to convince a chat session of a fact merely by the tone of your question. missing link to a paper exploring this from May this past year...) But... asking for confirmation of an idea is a legit ask too, but empirically I find less detailed that ask to confirm is the more detailed the response confirming what I think I already know. Let the tool search up the details and share that. Still it was a fun entertaining video, but laced with some hype fuel imo. It was more honest than the announcement video (showing prompts next to spoken output is helpful to "draw the connection" to the more grounded reality of using chat bot tools currently. we'll get there... but spoken AI in a crowded room is going to be as annoying as listening to conversations of people talking to others on their phone on speaker in a public space... Can't remove the human annoyance factor.

This is cool... but it was disappointing to see Bard immediately prompted about the low pressure, presumably Bard isn't smart enough to suggest it as the cause of the stall itself.
I believe Bard is smart enough to say that definitely, but didn't and just reassured the idea that it is likely the reason, because it's just a question. I think if Bard has all the information of the experiment, assuming all parameters are set, and everything is accurate. Then Bard should say the exact cause, if everything is perfect and it has all the information to work with then it should pick out the flaw(s) right?

It looks like a great tech demonstrator, so I was cool with watching a 6 minute advertisement. The problem isn't these first days of using "AI" like this, but rather when people start to accept the AI's opinion of creativity as the truest (or only) answer. Instead of Bostrom's paperclip maximizer, maybe we're all going to be making paper airplanes in perpetuity.

This felt so fake...so not like other Mark Rober videos. I would have been surprised If the whole point about low pressure due to hot air creating stall was from Bard/Gemini. But Mark suggesting and Bard regurgitating it felt like misdirection. Even last years gpt 3.5 could do that. Focussing more on gemini's multi modal image/video generation (if possible) would have helped
Yeah, if you've used ChatGPT this year Bard doesn't seem really impressive here. Also it's quite embarrassing that Mark will just accept whatever Bard says without any questioning whatsoever, especially when asking about the comparative stability of the different designs. Just tested out bard's image understanding capabilities, gave it a picture of a lever with a ball at one end and a heavy book about to fall on the other end of the lever and asked bard what will happen to the ball after the book falls, bard could not even give the result properly. This was its response : The book is currently supporting the ball, but when the book drops, the ball will no longer have any support and will fall under the force of gravity. Its really great that it can understand images that too for free but its no where near accurate as it seems in this video.
accuracy is improved if you tell it the answer, and ask it if it agrees, like this video. Or, give it 100 puzzles, and then only show the times it was correct. Those are proven methods of improving accuracy.
The canard should be the most efficient energy-wise (because it doesn't have a tail which fights against lift to gain stability), but it wouldn't be the most accurate of the designs. Based off my knowledge of aerodynamics, I'd would have had to agree with Bard here, Mark.

Still it was a fun entertaining video, but laced with some hype fuel imo. It was more honest than the announcement video (showing prompts next to spoken output is helpful to "draw the connection" to the more grounded reality of using chat bot tools currently. we'll get there... but spoken AI in a crowded room is going to be as annoying as listening to conversations of people talking to others on their phone on speaker in a public space... This is cool... but it was disappointing to see Bard immediately prompted about the low pressure, presumably Bard isn't smart enough to suggest it as the cause of the stall itself.
I believe Bard is smart enough to say that definitely, but didn't and just reassured the idea that it is likely the reason, because it's just a question. I think if Bard has all the information of the experiment, assuming all parameters are set, and everything is accurate. Then Bard should say the exact cause, if everything is perfect and it has all the information to work with then it should pick out the flaw(s) right?
If the AI was expecting the experiment to be performed outdoors it might not have been as much of an issue.

I've just talked to Bard, it was allucinating stuff like a champ. It's very rough by the edges yet.
It looks like a great tech demonstrator, so I was cool with watching a 6 minute advertisement. This felt so fake...so not like other Mark Rober videos. I would have been surprised If the whole point about low pressure due to hot air creating stall was from Bard/Gemini. Just tested out bard's image understanding capabilities, gave it a picture of a lever with a ball at one end and a heavy book about to fall on the other end of the lever and asked bard what will happen to the ball after the book falls, bard could not even give the result properly. This was its response : The book is currently supporting the ball, but when the book drops, the ball will no longer have any support and will fall under the force of gravity. Its really great that it can understand images that too for free but its no where near accurate as it seems in this video.
accuracy is improved if you tell it the answer, and ask it if it agrees, like this video. Or, give it 100 puzzles, and then only show the times it was correct. Those are proven methods of improving accuracy.
