At this point I feel like there’s no excuse for crappy sharpening choil / plunge grinds. Great video!
My absolute biggest pet peeve about most knive companies is that despite constant complaints, many never do good sharpening choils and plunge grinds. It's an easy enough fix, and as a lefty, I would rather have a good sharpening choil and plunge grind than reversible clips. I've gotten to the point now that it is a deal-breaker and I won't buy a knife if I can't reprofile the blade and get a few good sharpenings out of it without creating a smile
I 100% agree. If I can’t sharpen it without adding a smile or have a good chance of other sharpening issues I won’t buy it either. I know some will add their own choils but I’m not into doing it. I’ve done it once and now it’s forming a recurve.
I use a KME sharpener for my sharpening system. If I can’t sharpen without aesthetically screwing it up then it’s a no go.
Ive liked so many knifes that I ultimately passed on for that same reason

Cr8Mo2VSi is the same as DC53. I hope they make a large Canary in 14C28N in the future, it's such a great fixed blade steel. And the Variant PE looks like a good affordable little blade.

Liking the big Canary; the folding variant is a good wee pocket blade. Disappointed with the quality control on the Penguin I bought, but the Hedgehog and the Parrot were great knives for the money.

What lock bar lock style is the strongest, as how we/civivi have the best button lock?
Very subjective question. However, between to the two, framelocks in general tend to be a bit more secure and robust than a linerlock.
We and their subsidiaries really nail the button lock detent. It's often a bit more crisp and snappy than others while still being very smooth and consistent. They're also very good at reducing occurences of excessive button stick and almost never have plunge lock failure from spine impacts. But if you're looking for an ultra strong lock, buttonlocks are not the best place to look. Go with a crossbar lock if you want strength and a similar experience to a button. Or go ultra strong with a ColdSteel Atlas or Triad lock or a Demko Shark lock.

Budget knife quality has jumped up so far in the past decade, it's annoying to see something like a choil done wrong. I have a couple QSPs and both of them are nice but would have been better if the scales were more rounded or chamfered. Thanks for sharing!
DC53 is supposed to be similar to Sleipner

I meant love your show. You really know your s*** I need your advice. I bought a kazard drop bear a couple of months ago and I fidget with it all the time and when I got it. It was Rock solid, no play Either Way, and now I'm starting to get some up-and-down play. It's either wearing on the bottom of the bar or the top of my blade. Where it locks? That’s large canary fixed blade needed a lanyard hole. What a miss. Poor steel choice too.
Ehh technically you got like 4 huge lanyard holes on the thing as it is lol
And DC53 makes a great fixed blade steel and will be more than serviceable in the correct applications. It's a durable tool steel that's pretty tough at higher hardness's, unlike D2 which is the main complaint users have since it can be chippy/have burnt edges at times; yeah it's not stainless but it's fairly corrosion resistant and gonna hold a nice long edge; hopefully they heat treat them properly.
Maybe for you but I’ll pass. Not my style

QSP excels as an OEM… they’re great at it. However, when it comes to their own designs, they are horribly misled
