Great tips, root rot is definitely tricky sometimes. Good point about the bark

Awesome video. Super helpful. Love the new intro and ending! I have a question: My orchids’ leaves are droopy I think it’s because I have only bark chips. I know you said it’s best to to get the moss, but could I increase watering and still get the leaves healthier?

Thanks! So as much watering as you do with bark chips as the media, the water will just slip right through. So I recommend filling up a really big bowl with water and dunk the pots into the water for about 30 seconds which will allow the roots to absorb the water and the bark to absorb some water as well. Repeat this whenever your roots look pale and really light gray. Happy growing!

Does my orchard need sunlight daily?

My orchid leaves are droopy! The plant is blooming beautifully, do I need to cut the spikes off? Root system is short.

Question: My mini orchid is blooming like crazy, but some of the under leaves are yellowing. I keep my orchid out on my north east facing balcony where it gets a few hours of direct morning sunlight in Southern California. Any suggestions?

Hi. I had a phalaenopsis orchid with a growing flower spike and some buds on it but suddenly after few days i noticed that all green air root tips have disappeared and all roots inside the pot have rotted very bad and smelled terrible. I repoted the orchid and placed all the 3-4 air roots (which are really short and only 2 of them had green growth tip) inside the media. I have noticed after one day that only one of the leaves is abit droopy. It still has a flower spike with buds. Do you have any suggestions for me please???
    Thanks

I'm growing my orchid in a vase of water and my leaves are drooping 😢 Do you know anything about growing them this way and why it might be happening?

If you’re growing your orchid hydroponically (in water), then the water should be at most 1/2 of the way up the roots. You don’t want all the roots completely submerged because then the roots are drowning and can’t breathe air. So in other words, leave half the length of the roots above the water and the other half submerged. Hope that makes sense 😅

All the water runs out (bark), so I want to repot. But roots have come through the holes in my plastic pot. How can I get it out of the old pot?

I have an orchid that still has its flowers and I have it in an orchid pot with some orchid mix and the moss. The leaves turned dark green and are very droopy... any tips?

Whenever your orchid’s leaves are droopy, it means they are dehydrated. Give it a good drench with lukewarm water under the sink until water gushes out the drainage hole. It should look new in a day or two! Never let the moss/bark dry out :)

On my orchid I have only one droopy leaf.. the others are completely fine. I have bark but I just let the plant sit in a bucket full of water for a day or two, completely drain it and then put it back. I thought about just cutting the leaf. Do you have any idea what this could be?

That’s completely normal, especially if it is on the bottom. Orchids prioritize the health of their newest leaves. So, often their bottom leaves may not look so attractive.

What do I do if the flowers look droopy

    • @frankiesforest
      @frankiesforest  3 года назад +1

Hello! Well, if the flowers have been around for a while and they start to droop, it is probably just because they are naturally starting to pass. However, if they are brand new flowers and they start to droop, then you are under watering your orchids. Make sure to water until water comes out of the drainage hole. How do you keep the leaves from turning yellow
I have enough light plenty of light indirect and the leaves are still turning yellow
I water as specified 10-15 days
    If green roots no water
    If silver roots water
    What am I doing wrong

A few things to look for:
Do you have a drainage hole in the pot?
While some roots are silver, are you sure that the moss/bark isn’t still wet when you water?
Do you get a cold draft near the orchid?
Do you see any pests or bugs on or under the plants leaves? (They can be really small)

@@frankiesforest drainage holes on all pots, I feel the bark before watering some still wet but I don’t water them, never get bugs on my orchids never have
They are in constant 72 degree - 85 degree temp and I water with 70 degree water or rain water
I may have too low of a light source? Half of them in a greenhouse and the others are indoor but next to a window with east side facing light no sun but still turn yellow and flower turns brownish on the tip
