👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I loved learning the history of the story! And the animation was great! Your quality of work is amazing! I’ve enjoyed the whole process. Thank you and I can’t wait for the next one 😊
Thank you , I’m glad you enjoyed it, I enjoyed making the history segment , and am now quietly obsessed with the research side off this too. Lots of exciting ideas for future episodes ….
@@Bloomfield_Art_Restoration I’m glad for your new obsession and I’m here for the journey. I love history and the paintings put a tangible face to that history.
The detective work uncovering the painting's history is as interesting as the restoration process. Well done on both counts! The outcome of your work is miraculous.
The little history animation was glorious :D . Also I'm curious, how the owner reacted when he saw the new portrait, although I think he might had seen this channel and wasn't completely surprised :D
If i could give you a standing ovation here, I would! Fantastic work!!! The difference is remarkable. I wish the Regency Gent's grandmother could see it now❤❤
Well i wasn't excepting him to look so similar to a friend who's name is also Patrick. I showed him this painting and it blew his mind how similar they look.
I’ve been doing my family tree, and occasionally come across pictures of their gravestones. As you can imagine, they can be very difficult to read. I found that putting different filters over the top of them, eg, making them black or white, could make it much easier to read. I am tickled pink that you did the same with the signature on the picture. I feel quite proud of myself that I figured this technique out, especially that I am an accountant by trade with no artist training. And going down rabbit holes, I quite often end up down them whilst trying to track people down. Like today. I’ve spent five hours proving that someone wasn’t a relation! Then I put the information on Ancestry to help other people trying to track their relatives and save them from pulling their hair out like me! Fortunately I am a female so it grows back….I can relate to spending hours researching someone and absolutely love how you’ve worked out the family tree’ of this painting and have passed it on.
Thank you so much , yes it’s really given me a taste now for research and attribution !! It was so addictive trying to track down the artist and pull everything together ! I’m glad you enjoyed the series, more to come
Loved that animation. OMG!!! Brilliant that you solved the mystery, too often I feel it's impossible to find these sorts of things out (most unsatisfactory...).
The process and the mystery, the storytelling in the recovery and in the restoration are so wonderful and evocative! You captured our hearts and our attention with this project. Thank you!!!
The painting looks so much better! Even "skinned" as it is, you can see the artists original intentions. The animation was fantastic. I really enjoyed seeing the full history and their expressions were hilarious! 😂 Hopefully, one day, the descendants of the Gent will be able to see the restored version of their ancestor!
I think he looks amazing.Personally like you ,I think you did the correct amount of work on him,any more and you’re going to go into re painting him. That defeats the objective. This way shows the paintings age,the quality of the artists work and what the subject looked like whilst he was being painted. His true colours under the dirt and the over painting were much better than what the other restorer !well we will loosely call him that.Once the coats of your varnishes went on it has the effect of making the character, not only more 3D ,but it also makes the colours richer and deflects from the minor flaws, and as the portrait will be viewed at a distance, the more worn areas will not be so obvious.I think you did an exceedingly great job and he looks fabulous.I hope your client was thrilled too 🥰
Thank you for making this series. The transformation is amazing. One of my favorite authors is Daniel Silva. His main protagonist is a character named Gabriel Allon. He is a spy, but also an art resortorer. In the books, the author will usually describe an art restoration project - like a Bellini. He goes into a lot of detail. Your projects totally bring these portions of the book to life.
Hooray for finding the artist attributionfor this! The end result is SO much better than the botched piece it was when it was handed to you to restore.
Great job! Fantastic animation added - I never expected to have a detective story and animation included into retouching episode 🤯 Now you have created a monster - we will be asking for more similar summaries of major restorations 😏 Great, great job all around! Can't wait for your next project!
What an amazing restoration! That you found so much history of it is incredible. Thanks for sharing it from the beginning. Outstanding job! I only wish the original owners could see it now.
What a great saga! Congratulations on the successful completion. I must say, I'd like to have known the gentleman peering out of the restored painting. Loved your narration as well as your work, too.
Fabulous! The previous 'restorer' should be turning in his grave at the horrible job he did, and was paid for. No wonder it was consigned to the stable block. You have recovered and restored our Regency Gent to his proper place and he will probably grace his owner's wall for a long time.
But... to be fair to him... Just 2 guineas. They knew he was neither a professional restorer or portrait painter when they asked to see what he could do to restore it.
This was sooo interesting, educating and entertaining, all at once! I will definitely write down all I know about the pieces of art in my house. I really see myself more as a guardian of those works now. They are precious to me - but why not for future generations? Thank you so much for letting us be part of this project!!!
Love the series. I have a question though. Can you tell us the preference you have in your varnish brush? I paint for a living and i use natural brushes when it comes to varnishes and oils.
Out of interest, if an oil painting from the 1970s were badly overpainted in the 1990s, also in oils, would there be possible to remove the overpaint, or is that all too close in date?
It's been quite a journey, both the restoration of what is once again an excellent work of portraiture and the discovery of its original creator, or creators, it seeming to have been a father - son collaboration by unfortunate necessity. As some others have stated, it would be interesting to learn of the current owners' reaction to the finished work, while realizing that a good many clients likely wish to retain their privacy.

Mr. Lloyd thanks you the most no doubt, saved from being remembered as a portly dandy when he was a right handsome man.
Mind blown 🤯 Absolutely amazing work. Well done.
11:18 You're a brave man putting your typo of your own company name - which is your own name! - in close-up on the internet :p
Those reaction cartoons cracked me up!
“Nuclear proof glue,” that was so funny! Good one! ❤❤
The detective work uncovering the painting's history is as interesting as the restoration process. Well done on both counts! The outcome of your work is miraculous.
Thank you glad you enjoyed it!
These videos on the Regency Gent were very interesting. The final portrait is amazing. You did a fantastic job!
You really outdid yourself with this one! The end result of the restoration is glorious, but so is your editing, the animation is amazing!
Thank you , I’m trying to improve all the time , I did enjoy doing that whole segment though !
Beautiful! He's so much more elegant than when you received him. Fabulous!
The little history animation was glorious :D . Also I'm curious, how the owner reacted when he saw the new portrait, although I think he might had seen this channel and wasn't completely surprised :D
Thought I’d try and be a little creative rather than just narrate my findings, glad you liked it , I also needed to clarify it in my head too
I agree! That animation was great and helped piece it all together again.
Absolutely wonderful! I loved the animated bit, the "OMG!" made me laugh. Thank you for showing the process, I thoroughly enjoyed watching it all.
If i could give you a standing ovation here, I would! Fantastic work!!! The difference is remarkable. I wish the Regency Gent's grandmother could see it now❤❤
Love all the background story and the ongoing research about the actual painter throughout all 7 episodes!
What an excellent series - outstanding result
Well done! You brought him back to his most handsome self. This was worth the wait. Thank you.
Watching a piece of art emerging out of grime. Literally. It is magic. Thank you very much
Such a great series, amazing story.

Excellent job -- a very satisfying conclusion. Thanks for your diligence in both the research and execution -- a real 'search and rescue' operation.

What a great series of videos. Thanks!
Glad you like them! More to come

That is a stunning portrait, his eyes are penetrating and you have the highlights just right thank you
Sweet! Masterful work Mr. Bloomfield, a very enjoyable watch!

Amazing!!!
Awesome
Thank you for a fascinating series. Top work all round.

That's lovely. What a satisfying ending for this painting too.

Thank you , I’m really pleased with the result that we got
Absobloominglutely amazing x
Wonderful work. Great research and I think most people would love to have Mr Lloyd gracing their walls. Top job ❤
Thank you glad you liked it, I am now extremely addicted to research and attribution!! The whole journey has been fascinating for me too !
Loved the animation.great job😁
How nice to finally know the painter, and what a great job recovering the beauty of this painting, well done!
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed it
One can definitely see why this banker’s son wasn’t it(?) married up as they would have said. A wonderful job
Great restoration. Well done!
Well done! Thanks for sharing.

I must say. So great work. You have brought back a painting now within a million dollars!
Looks amazing.
I really enjoyed this project. As a painiter I think it is a good example of good and poor painting. I'd advise students to watch this. Thanks
Thanks I’m glad you enjoyed it, the difference between the two is quite staggering , and knowing when to stop as an artist is so important!
The sotry and restoration were facinating! Your work appears to be top notch! Goof Job!

A great work by you and a great mini doco in this episode. Loved the detective work.
Absolutely beautiful series which ended in some wonderful historical surprises. Very much looking forward to seeing what is next.
Brilliant job.....skill AND detective work at its best. Thank you!

Should be possible but it would be tricky I would do some tests first other wise you could have no painting left at all ....
It has been quite the journey and Im sure my client will be pleased , I think they may well have been following its progress
❤️👋🇨🇦
Thanks and 👋 to Canada 🇨🇦
😊🇧🇪♥️
Thank you 👋
You spelled you own name incorrectly...
Not streaming properly here. It's frozen solid at 9:29 leaving me champing st the bit to learn the name of the artist. Grrrrr!
No worries, it eventually unfroze.
Great work. Regency Gent has at last been given back his, and the artist's, rightful place in history.
Oh no !!! Hope it has now worked for you …
Thank you , yes he has! and released from that mask of paint !!
Oh my gosh this animation is so fantastic!!! The entire video series was AWESOME, def subscribed
Thank you !! glad you enjoyed 🙏
