I am flabbergasted that a big corporation like Starbucks had the nerve to pull that on a monastery, AND I am outraged that a secular company would dare to copywrite "Christmas." Go, Father, GO!

I like how true Christians are always chill. Priests in my place too are so devoted to God and spiritual growth, that these petty things are like a joke to them. They have found the source of life already.

@@ofrlsbly he never projected hatred, and the images were not about the residents, they were taken to show the flags themselves. He removed and apologized for the videos after realizing how that could be construed as harrassment or doxxing.

How can a company copyright something so generic as 'Christmas Blend' it is ridiculous that Starbucks were even allowed to have that. Next thing you know they'll own 'ground coffee'
A brazilian church called UNIVERSAl, an evangelical church (obviously), was trying to copyright the name Jesus and forbidden all others to use His name. It's açmos comical, if it wasn't so heretical
I have not bought coffee from Starfucks in years..and I will not ever buy again from them. All this "publicity" did was make people aware of another coffee brand they can purchase in lieu of Star Fucks.
Or the name "Christ," itself.

This case is as if some corporation had trademarked the words, grand opening, clearance sale or any other common business term so that none could use them without making royalty payments. Why should it be illegal to name a coffee, specially blended for Christmas, a Christmas Blend? I never cease to be astounded by the utter viciousness of the "highly successful" of this world!

The way society is evolving currently I wouldn't be surprised if 20 years from now public libraries are banned due to not being in line with intellectual property and copyright law.
I have to agree with this. If Dell can't copyright 'Cloud Computing', Starbucks shouldnt be able to copyright 'Christmas blend'. This whole situation actually makes American gov't seem very fickle, or hypocritical.

Copyrights are a violation of human creativity. Intellectual property such as books or patents on inventions are another matter, but a name brand like "Christmas Blend"? Really? that is a stretch and any judge who disagrees is an idiot.
I agree. starbucks is extremely braindead for this.
A trademark is different than copyright. The idea of a trademark is that if you as a company are selling a product, it prevents other companies in the same market from using the same name for their similar product or brand. This is also helpful for consumers because it prevents scummy businesses from making cheap knockoffs.
But...like you said, 'Christmas blend' seems way too generic for them to try to lay claim to that. No consumer is going to look at this monk coffee and confuse it with Starbucks. They must have a whole team of really expensive lawyers working for them. I would be very interested to know how this particular case resolved.
Well forget Starbucks, I'll make my own frappuccinos from now on.

Interesting to hear his voice here compared to now. He seems more light-hearted here. The world has gotten more hostile toward Christianity, maybe that's a factor, he seems to talk about it a lot. Wonder if they are still selling the coffee....

@saintben2008 In this case the religious people were right. In the U.S. one may not copyright or trade mark common descriptive words. These are called 'generic marks'. "Christmas Blend" is a generic mark.
Been boycotting Starbucks for years because they directly give to planned parenthood. After this message, i will continue to boycott them.
