as a brazilian this model is so fascinating to me, as hopi hari purchased one of these which was about to be built and would have been the standout coaster in the country but then an accident happened and it got shipped away, even though the track was physically there and groundwork had already started ;-; our 8i monte makaya also was closed with its park a few years earlier and it's yet to be rebuilt in a new location! that's why this ride model is so fascinating for brazilians, and i can't wait to try one of these someday. hopefully in brazil!!
It turns out that it wasn't an accident. Hopi Hari had financial issues after they received the ride, and could not afford to build it. I got to ride collosus this summer! As an american that doesnt see inversion terribly much, I thought the ride was really solid! Those restraints and the age of the steel take it down a few points but nothing beats the silly laughing during the heartline rolls.

The quadruple heartline with lapbars is terrifying and i love it! And Sik was so smooth, i didn't detect any rattle - unlike The Smiler, which i love, but is a proper painful headbanger.

The Intamin 10 inversion coaster is designed for inversions, not airtime or other things.
Smiler definitely mixes things up more than the 10 inversion model. And it paces out the inversions better and doesn't have anything as nauseating as 4 back slow paced heartline roles.
As much as I love the heartline rolls on colossus (and think it's the best part of the ride), it's definitely more repetitive and dare I say, a brutal comment to say the smiler is as repetitive, or anywhere near the 10 Inversion rollercoaster
The GP not understanding lapbars is very relevant with colossus and the UK, seeing as the UK gp here put up large quantities of statements saying it's unsafe having a lapbar on hyperia
I've only done Colossus but I actually really enjoy the quad-heartline rolls! My favourite part of the ride is probably the vertical loop but I still enjoy the rest of it! And I agree, I don't find it to be a particularly rough ride, especially if you sit further forward and keep your head forward. The legroom on Colossus' trains does kinda suck though.
I got to do Altair at Cinecitta World in Italy last year, and I thought it was supremely underrated, mainly cause this model doesn't get talked about much due to it not being in North America. I thought this model was great, smooth, good intensity, and I personally loved the quadruple heartline roll at the end for the hangtime.
One thing maybe its missing is about the layout. Even though Colossus was the first 10 inversion coaster, the prototype and layout base for the model was Monte Makaya, which held the record with Dragon Khan. The only new thing Colossus came up with was a new set of trains and mirrored heartline rolls to increase 2 inversions to the layout
I've only ridden 10 Inversion Coaster (yes that is the coaster name) at Chimelong Paradise in Guangzhou. Fun ride, didnt have a problem with it. I went before the pandemic and they modified the restraints so I dont fit in it anymore. Would like to try SIK since it looks more comfortable.

I got to ride Altair in Rome earlier this year! The finale felt like 5 mosasaurus rolls in a row, and it’s my favorite hangtime moment ever with those lapbars!
When I went on Colossus, I thought after the 4 heartline rolls, it was over and then I’m greeted with a really snappy inversion that took me by surprise!
There's also an 8 inversion coaster previously produced by Intamin and it follows the same layout/model of Colossus but has only three consecutive heartline rolls and an extra helix where that final left turn is.
@G3R0George Nah, just some leg amputations... For real though, it's actually not the ride's fault. The block zones worked as intended. A negligent maintenance worker overrid the controls, which made the train continue the layout and hit the empty train that valleyed.
as a thorpe park local I can say there are many days where colossus feel more rough than Saw The Ride. I do like colossus but i think its just outdated. can we replace it with an intermin or Vekoma Multi launch like Abyssus at Energylandia
I absolutely loved Colossus back when I rode it as a teenager when it opened in 2002 but over the years my opinion has soured. I don't know whether it's the fact that it's got rougher or that Thorpe's newer editions have got steadily more impressive, probably a combination of the two. I totally agree about the 4 heartline rolls in a row feeling like they're just there to get the inversion count to 10, pretty much always felt that way about that section of the ride.
When I did my coaster climb on Colossus earlier this year, they mentioned that the reason the final heartline roll was designed to go the opposite way to the quadruple heartline rolls was to undo some of the dizziness that the quadruple heartline rolls caused on riders. That and sitting on the brakerun for 3 hours, whilst the ride ops struggle to dispatch the badly designed trains because no one ever fits, certainly help to get rid of the dizziness before you get off!
Personally I've been lucky enough to get to ride colossus twice, once in the front row and then again in row 11. It's definitely true that being closer to the front greatly reduces the roughness of the ride, as when I rode in front row, I thought the ride was immensely enjoyable and the cobra roll being my favourite element, however when I went back about 3 months later and rode in the back row, I was honestly surprised as to how rough it was, and I got off with my ears hurting from how much they'd hit against the sides, however interestingly the quadruple heartline rolls were actually my favourite part of the ride my second time. Out of all the elements, since they were a very repetitive motion, they were much smoother than everything else, and with the over the shoulder restraints keeping me in place, it was a really enjoyable sensation going upside down like that 4 times in a row, and even though I can agree that they probably were a slight gimmick, I think the quadruple heartline rolls are currently one of the best parts of the entire ride.
Colossus is indeed not rough compared to SAW, but I got off banging the restraints into my neck pretty hard. It is great they are re-tracking the ride, but new trains could be beneficial.
I've only ridden Colossus but I have the complete opposite opinion of the 4 heartline rolls. It's probably one of the best elements I've experienced on a coaster yet, and gives great airtime especially sat near the back.
Personally, I find saw less rough than colossus- I came out bleeding in my left ear… Idk why it might be the restraints or just me but colossus either needs to be torn down or buy more comfortable restraints. I think it would be a great ride with comfy restraints!!! Love ur vids
Sik is a fantastic ride, I love the rolls at the end with just the lapbar and how much you dangle. Colossus is hit and miss, sometimes you’ll get a ride that’s ok but at other times it’s quite rough, Sik is a way better coaster.
I did experience Colossus at Thorpe park back in 2018 as well, certainly a very dizzying experience. You gotta make sure you drink lots of water before riding something like this so you don't get headaches and get good oxygen circulation in your blood. Also this is just a fun fact but Sik is actuallly the oldest of the revised models of this ride. It was originally supposed to open way back in 2012 in Brazil at Hopi Hari but the park ran into financial difficulties and didn't have enough money to actually assemble the ride after it had been delivered. After that it was mothballed around and sold to a failed theme park in Malaysia where it was also never assembled, until it was put up for sale AGAIN and Flamingo land managed to buy it. Presumably at a big discount. I wonder if the one in Turkey for the failed Wonderland Eurasia will experience a similar fate, but so far I've yet to see the rides from it be put up for sale.
Flamingo Land is my local park, so I've had a good few marathons on Sik from time to time. Once you get the hang of how to sit in the seat with the lap bar, the heartline rolls stop being uncomfortable and they're really enjoyable. If you sit very slightly forward (Not enough to be trying to get airtime) the lap bar sits much more in the crease between your legs and torso and it's a better experience overall.
I have been on the new 10 inversion model in Turkey and it is really, I absolutely mean really snappy. It is hauling through the rolls. When I compare the povs, colossus looks way slower than new version. I can imagine why the track has to be beefier. The vertical loop? Makes you lurch into your seat. Cobra rolls? rips you around. Corkscrews, you can feel your chest pop. Not even gonna talk about rolls you can't even process whats happening there, you are just looking at a blurry sky and ground mixture. I had back pain at the night after riding it and my face became yellow after 2 rides that I legitemately wanted to leave the park
I supposed to ride Sik back in 2012, when it was going to open at Hopi Hari, but that never happened 😅 Good review, I imagine the ride experience would be somehow tiring (and maybe even nauseating?) but smooth and had good restraints
Thorpe is my home park and I once rode colossus over 10 times in a day. I left with legs like jelly and a splitting headache. I've ridden colossus over 100 times and it's different every time. Sometimes it's very enjoyable and sometimes it's utterly unbearable.
I haven’t been on Sik cus it was closed when I went to Flamingo Land (will be going on it next year) but I think Colossus is an underrated gem, it’s smooth, I actually like the quad Heartline Roll, and the airtime hill is insane.
Before deciding on Colossus, Thorpe considered a B&M launch coaster with a similar layout to Incredible Hulk! Quite amazing how differently things could've developed!
These rides are great however the leg room on colossus is well… I think the model needs to be slightly modified as these with lap bards can be painful…
I’ve been on both of the coasters you mentioned and I agree that you kinda get yanked around the heartline rolls on sik but i still found it fun and on colossus you don’t have that problem
I agree about sik with a lap bar and the 4 hard line rolls is very dizzing and difficult to re ride back to back but colosus over the shoulder restrains and slower speed actually makes the hardline rolls a lot more re rideable
I suppose I agree that it’s a gimmick in that I’m not eager to marathon any of these. But I thought Thorpe’s Colossus was pretty fun - certainly better than its reputation at least.
Only ridden colossus but I find it really underrated. I get why some people hate it because it's rough and dizzying but it is bearable. Though it is my worst intamin coaster, it doesn't stop it from being in my top ten rollercoasters. Not as good as dragon's fury at Chessington world of adventures but better than storm chaser at Paultons park. By the way, colossus is rougher than saw for me and I find that of the big five coasters at Thorpe park colossus is better themed than stealth but worse than nemesis inferno. And colossus is the worst of the big five coasters at Thorpe park. With my thoughts, of the big coasters that I have ridden in the world this is the second worst. Better than oblivion at Alton towers but worse than nemesis inferno at Thorpe park. ( I just want them to give colossus lap bars).
The first time I went to Thorpe Park, I went on this ride without knowing the number of inversions. Those 4 heartline rolls back to back blew my mind as I wasn't expecting it. Subsequent rides were no where near as good unfortunately so I now try to look as little as possible at ride stats until I have ridden it.
I've ridden both Saw and Colossus twice on 2 different visits a few years apart and what I find interesting is that I found Colossus to be intolerably rough, like genuinely painful, but found Saw to be completely smooth, no issues there. I'm genuinely struggling to see how you got them the other way around
The first five inversions of this model look so aesthetically pleasing. If you change up the ride after that I think you’d have a much more enjoyable experience.
Genuinely think Sik is a better ride than the Smiler. I agree, the heartline rolls are weakest part, but they're still fun. Remember, most people won't ride again and again, most people are one and done, so having four rolls is fine. Absolutely agree the double corkscrews are great, they're surprisingly forceful too.
Those rides, new versions, are really, I absolutely mean really, snappy. The vertical loop, made my neck forcefully tilt forwards and come down like when you have a whiplash even when I tried to keep my head as back as it can be. Cobra rolls, it shoots you into the sky, snaps you around and pins you back down. Corkscrews, they actually gently flip you upside down but just right as you come to the top of it there is this sudden whip mixed with positive G's that makes you feel like someone is tryna get you off the train like how you get someone out of their car in GTA games. The quadrouple rolls, I don't even know what happened there I just remember entering there then idk what happened, I was at the middle of the shallow turn when I could finally process whats going on. Then the last one just felt like my neck has popped out, I can imagine if that happened 4 times a few seconds ago. I could only ride twice before my face became yellow. I had back pain that night. It was my first non family coaster, I was a child back then. I remember that in the next year of that summer we went to Land of Legends and I rode the hyper coaster there thinking that 10 inversion is how your average coaster feels and I was like: is this a childrens ride? I get more G's in the bus than this
Hmmmm - Sik and Colossus are very popular rides at both Flamingo Land and Thorpe Park. The heart lines are my least favourite but I prefer these intamin coasters to most B&M’s out there. Never understood the ‘rough’ comment of Saw. I really enjoyed it. Good coaster. Maybe it’s where you sit 🤷🏼♀️.
Grew up with Collosus... it's very very shakey indeed.. you're absolutely right.. I agree with everythign you said, you made me laugh to when you said, Saw next door is legitimately rough.. you got that right. Saw is a serious headshaking ride.. one of my favourites in the world though, next to duelling dragons, hulk, montu and kumba.
The most inversions I've actually ridden is Dragon Khan (8 inversions, and they're punchy early B&M inversions) at PortAventura, and maybe I'm getting old, but I kind of felt like that getting off of it. Thought "You know, I'd have liked that more if it had slightly fewer inversions. 6 would be good." And since B&M never made another coaster with more than 7 inversions, maybe they thought so too.
It’s bad enough when a coaster has a commercial sponsor, but when the coaster is actually named for a commercial product (e.g., Sik) I find it insulting. I’m already paying to get into a park. I’m not paying to be subjected to more commercials.
fun fact: flamingo land tried to advertise sik as the rollercoaster with the most inversions IN THE WORLD. and the press just ate it up like the smiler didnt even exist... dont even mention colossus
I really don’t know where this myth has come from about Colossus getting retracked. They replaced one piece of track this year that needed it, I think because it might’ve been slightly damaged, and then that will be it. I can’t see them repainting the whole coaster during project sparkle and then continuing retracking next year!
The park said last year that the retrack will be a multi year project, and they've recently said they are only painting sections that aren't due to be replaced over this winter I assume

I have ridden Altair at Cinecittà World, the one in Rome. It was a walk-on the whole day and got something like 3 or 4 rides, then got tired and went to the other better coaster of the park, Inferno. First of all, in the front row Altair is almost butter smooth, but in the back it has this nasty and constant vibration throughout the whole ride that's quite annoying. And in terms of layout, I found the first half to be pretty disappointing. The drop, loop, "airtime hill", cobra roll did absolutely nothing. Then in the second half it got a bit better, the corkscrews are quite snappy, and the consecutive heartline rolls have insane upside down airtime. But as you said, 5 is too much. It becomes uncomfortable with a lap bar, and that's not something you hear quite often when talking about restraints🤔
Colossus at its best is a great ride experience and one of the best rides in the country, beating out the smiler by a long shot in my opinion. Every time apart from my visit this year I have found the ride rough and the trains were so uncomfortable. That ride experience is the worst major coaster in the UK that I have done.
I rode Colossus in 2002 (opening year). It was an off-peak day, so I was able to ride 6 times. I remember the lift hill being 2 speeds, starting slow until the train was out the station, before changing to a faster speed. Did they change that, or is Sik just even faster? At the time, I really enjoyed Colossus, but I hated the OTSRs. Why? When taking the Heartline Rolls at such a slow pace (compared to what I have seen from Sik), my rear bumper (to put it politely) was leaving the seat, and my shoulders just banged off them, and left me with some serious bruising.
I just rode colossus at thrope park , I just had the same exact impression . Not as rough as I thought but was very dizzy after. The 4 in a row was too much
Colossus is such a frustrating coaster. I love it, but good lord, does it take its toll on the body. I really really hope that Thorpe Park will upgrade the trains at some point, opting for lap bar restraints instead of the old over the shoulder ones.
it was originally an 8 inversion design, they just added the two extra twists to take the inversion record, have only been on colossus and it was rougher than SAW but it was the year SAW opened have heard its much rougher now.
I disagree strongly about those 4 Heartline-rolls. That element is absolutly one of the best and most intense moments on any coaster for me and probably my 2nd or 3rd favourite inversion.
They should have extended the run into the final turn and remove two of the four consecetive heartline rolls with an airtime hill and a vertical loop, and then after the final turn have an additional heartline roll for the run into the station. Not sure if the train would have enough speed to do this, but it would work much better than 4 heartline rolls in a row and still be able to boast about 10 inversions (although I don't think that really means much anymore since if you just want inversions the smiler has 14).
I had a different experience with Colossus Vs Saw. Saw had a couple of jolts in parts but on the whole wasn't unbearably rough. Colossus, on the other hand, was.a headache inducer. I'd agree that the 4 inversions at the end just aren't fun.
Great video. I've ridden both this coaster with sik only last year. I agree that the four rolls is too much. Sik is the superior coaster simply because the more modern train and lap bars. My opinion is all lap bars on all coasters needs to be outlawed
Oh yeah 100 % agree, they really don’t need 4 in a row and even if they spread them out a little like you said that would be better. But we know what Merlin is like right, haha
I've only done Altair at Cinecitta World and totally agree. Those ending inversions after the first few aren't enjoyable. The rest of the coaster is actually good though.
We have two editors (Taylor and Sarah) who alternate videos to ensure there's always something that's being worked on! We definitely overwork ourselves but we love it so it's okay!
I will actually experience a 10 inversion coaster in rome in Italy next may of 2024. I haven't ridden a 10 inversion coaster before so maybe you're right or not. I don't know, i first have to experience it when i go to Rome and then tell you if it is a coaster that made me sick or if it is enjoyable.
On Altair go for the front row. I went in 2021 and towards the back it had this nasty rattle that almost gave me a headache. I don't know if it was because the train was almost empty, but definetly go for the front, in terms of forces it's the same anyways
@@thecoasterman682 Then the park will be pretty much dead😅 It was in august, so in May even more... Most of the rides will be walk-ons, you won't have any issues with the lines
I've ridden Collosus more times than I can count and have to say.. I've never found it that rough however, the trains and restraints are horrible! I'm only 5ft 11 and average build but can't sit in the back of a car due to not even being able to crawl under the restraints to get to a seat and then if I do I have no leg room! The queue can take a very long time on busy days when there's people bigger than me who physically can not fit into the seats they've been allocated! so they have to be removed from the car, moved to queue for another row, more people brought in from the airgates and repeat the pre-launch checks.... I've seen this happen 5 times in a row!! Yes I agree that the 4 inversions are a bit much but I still enjoy the ride overall! Only change I would make are those cars / restraints!
Haven't ridden Sik YET, but Colossus is fine. Went on it once and it wasn't headbangy or particularly uncomfy, although the restraints and trains are a little tight. Controversial but I think it was more uncomfortable than SAW!!
I like how the review for the 10 inversion coaster is 10 minutes and 10 seconds long. 10/10

I mean at least this one did not kill people you know
@Spiritwonder420 Nobody died on the Smiler, you brainless baboon.🤦
@@Spiritwonder420the smiler didn't kill anyone
@@Spiritwonder420lol what. The smiler didn't kill anyone. Nobody even got knocked unconscious.
I do like colossus but i think its just outdated. can we replace it with an intermin or Vekoma Multi launch like Abyssus at Energylandia
i think its great when coasters do stuff like this because it makes them memorable and iconic and they become known for it
I absolutely loved Colossus back when I rode it as a teenager when it opened in 2002 but over the years my opinion has soured.
This was first big coaster 20 years ago. Cool to see you talk about it
I will always remember someone calling those 4 heartline rolls a washing machine.
I find it interesting that Colossus uses flat track for the 4 corkscrews and Sic uses triangular track for the same elements.
Ever gonna stay at the seaworld Orlando RESORT???? 😉
I supposed to ride Sik back in 2012, when it was going to open at Hopi Hari, but that never happened 😅
Good review, I imagine the ride experience would be somehow tiring (and maybe even nauseating?) but smooth and had good restraints
These rides are great however the leg room on colossus is well…
I think the model needs to be slightly modified as these with lap bards can be painful…
They should do a maverick and add S-bends to replace the rolls
I’ve been on both of the coasters you mentioned and I agree that you kinda get yanked around the heartline rolls on sik but i still found it fun and on colossus you don’t have that problem
I agree about sik with a lap bar and the 4 hard line rolls is very dizzing and difficult to re ride back to back but colosus over the shoulder restrains and slower speed actually makes the hardline rolls a lot more re rideable
It's like Fahrenheit, but without the quad heratline roll! (and the vertical lift, beyond vertical drop, vertical loop, and other heartline roll...)
As long as you don’t sit in a wheel seat then Colossus is a Great Coaster, on a wheel it gets a bit uncomfortable
I guess everyone’s different because I love the heart line roles on both coasters 😭.
I had the really cool (and random) experience of riding the one operating in Russia. I thought it was a really fun and solid ride tbh!
I weirdly like the look of the flat track models vs the more modern triangle shaped track. Im aware of why they did it though.
When I had the enlighTENment that this consisTENtly enjoyable video was TEN minutes and TEN seconds, I wondered if it was inTENtional. It's like the video was handwritTEN to neaTEN and exTENd the video without creating disconTENtment in the viewer. I would be roTENly dishearTENed if it was just a coincidence.
Inferno is so good! Loved my visit at Cinecittà World.
Whenever I go to italy, I MUST take a ride atleast on this model. It's always empty! I love it alot.
You read my mind this entire video
it was originally an 8 inversion design, they just added the two extra twists to take the inversion record, have only been on colossus and it was rougher than SAW but it was the year SAW opened have heard its much rougher now.
Wow what are the odds I was just searching for videos abt this layout
I disagree strongly about those 4 Heartline-rolls. That element is absolutly one of the best and most intense moments on any coaster for me and probably my 2nd or 3rd favourite inversion.
The heartline rolls are more fun to watch than to ride for sure
Colossus would be fun if the shoulder harnesses were replaced. I just hated the excessive head banging!
I used to love Colossus as a kid, now I just go on it for the sake of it rather than because I enjoy it.
I had a different experience with Colossus Vs Saw. Saw had a couple of jolts in parts but on the whole wasn't unbearably rough. Colossus, on the other hand, was.a headache inducer.
I'd agree that the 4 inversions at the end just aren't fun.
The 10 Inversion Coaster Is Awesome!
thats how i feel about Larson loops besides the roughness
Great video. I've ridden both this coaster with sik only last year. I agree that the four rolls is too much. Sik is the superior coaster simply because the more modern train and lap bars. My opinion is all lap bars on all coasters needs to be outlawed
8:10 So on Slik you get… Sik and tired? (I’m sorry)
great vid man
Oh yeah 100 % agree, they really don’t need 4 in a row and even if they spread them out a little like you said that would be better. But we know what Merlin is like right, haha
I walked up the Swarm and they said why detonator was closed. by the sounds of it its not just maintenence
I've only done Altair at Cinecitta World and totally agree. Those ending inversions after the first few aren't enjoyable. The rest of the coaster is actually good though.
Thorpe Park is my home park and I spend all my time on stealth, does that answer your question?
Rode Colossus at Thorpe. Took all of an hour to not feel bad. The last five inversions were too much.
How have you been able to pump out these videos every day for the past month? I feel like you might be overworking!
@@Mattia_Genuardi i'll try to remember that. And when i'm there i'll try to get to the front row okay?
@@thecoasterman682 Have fun! And be sure to not miss Inferno, the best coaster in the park, and the best family here in Italy
@@Mattia_Genuardi i'll go there in may next year.
Just watching the POV makes me dizzy at the end. I always knew this coaster was too much. I would still ride it once for the credit though 😊
I think it should be like a heartline roll or two following up with some airtime
If I’m correct the layouts are all the same on the 10 inversion rollercoasters
great coaster!
I live in the I’m and flamingo land is my local theme park it does hurt you thies on the quad hart line rolles but it’s still a grate ride
I really like Sik up to the last inversions and hate it after that. Incredibly painful with just a lap bar.
Haven't ridden Sik YET, but Colossus is fine. Went on it once and it wasn't headbangy or particularly uncomfy, although the restraints and trains are a little tight. Controversial but I think it was more uncomfortable than SAW!!
At least this wasn’t done as an early arrow cut and paste inversion style
